Magwa Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 My 1911 is so worn as to finish was giving this Cerakote some consideration, anyone here do it? let me know what you think.. thanks
98Z5V Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 YES! <thumbsup>Love the stuff. Used it once so far, air-dry version. Super easy to prep and apply, 2 hours to touch/handle, 24 hours to assemble, and fully cured in several days. Great stuff.I like it enough that I'll be buying a nice spraygun, more of the Cerakote, and stripping down some old painted firearms to redo.
planeflyer21 Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 What's a "nice" spray gun?I sprung for the one on sale at HF.Jon
98Z5V Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 One that sprays fine to medium, rebuildable, with a warranty, and replacement parts available. One that will last me for awhile (forever). Local auto paint supply has several choices, and I get a wicked discount through the shop.
IowaFClass Posted February 14, 2013 Report Posted February 14, 2013 Love Cerakote. I use the bake version. Did a 1911 for a freind and he has it for a carry and shows NO wear. Spray gun: I have all Iwata guns and air brushes. Use them from small camo to Harleys or a Rolls Royce. I don't like the equipment malfuctions after so much prep work. If you someone local that custom paints they would be a good person to ask about equipment.
Magwa Posted February 14, 2013 Author Report Posted February 14, 2013 OK so we like it so I have a Kimber tac custom 2 anyone recommend some one to do it?
DNP Posted February 14, 2013 Report Posted February 14, 2013 I think Tom is about to order a 50 gallon drum of FDE....Just sayin....as they say around here.
IowaFClass Posted February 19, 2013 Report Posted February 19, 2013 Myself and friends have used Bob Cogon at Accurate Plating and Weaponry in Al. He knows what he's doing and is great to deal with.
unforgiven Posted February 19, 2013 Report Posted February 19, 2013 I think Tom is about to order a 50 gallon drum of FDE....Just sayin....as they say around here. That will just about cover HIS rifles :o.Just sayin <lmao> <laughs>
DNP Posted February 19, 2013 Report Posted February 19, 2013 It goes on really thin, he might have room for one more.
