2 piece handguard too long?

I assembled (not in a vise, just hand tight) the barrel nut with delta ring on, and put the end cap + gas block on and did a test fit of the handguards. I got the UTG quadrail 2 piece since the price was right. Seems like its somewhere between 1/8 + 1/4 an inch too long to be able to work and i'm not sure what to do. I loosened the gas block, slid the end cap forwards and got it to work, but of course the gas block isn't lining up with the barrel hole anymore.

Any ideas?

I have a 2 piece rail like that on a regular AR. on mine you need to install the rear(barrel nut end) and then slip the front in(gas block end). Its oppisite of how ive always installed USGI handguards so it threw me at first. If you dont do it rear first it seems like its too long. Maybe give that a shot if you havnt already.

yep, the troy mrf rail (all I could find inexpensively in FDE is pretty damn sweet on it instead. can't wait to torque down the barrel nut + install it + gas block for good! Extra happy the FDE is a perfect match with the duracoat magpul FDE.
