Hey guys

Just a few things left to get before my .308 can bark. I am new to the AR world and have been learning a ton along the way but I am looking to get a DPMS compatible heavy fluted barrel. I would prefer something 20+inches so if you guys know of a place that i can look at please let me know.

I'm looking for a barrel for my project also. There seem to be a ton of places that manufacture them and half of them are out of stock. Rainier, Fullton Armory, Blackhole, Krieger, DPMS of course, and others. Some are more pricey than others. I'm also asking for advice on barrels. Good luck.

Bison armory had some in stock recently. jse surplus had some mega barrels. Those brownells branded barrels look interesting. Not sure if any of those were heavies.

I'm also just getting a build going and the most promising barrels I've seen for a reasonable price are from Rainier Arms! They are selling match grade SS barrels for $300- 350. From the research I've done they get the barrels from Black Hole Weaponry! You should definitely go check out their Web site th sey are doing some new 3 groove poly-aganol rifling supposed to be super accurate! That's just what I've read and found out for myself but like I said I'm new to the 308AR platform!

I've also come across in my search for a barrel a company called McGowen Precision Barrels. They do pull button rifling on all their barrels and for a 18" SS 308 barrel it's $245 and an extra $35 if you want it fluted. Just my 2 cents

You might consider Lilja.  They hold numerous Olympic wins and records.   I have two going now.  One is 24" heavy contour fluted.  I have just broken it in and it is grouping about 0.5" at 100 yds, with my reloads made for a different 308.  I am confident it will be well below that when I get a load developed for it.  I have not tried any factory match grade ammo yet, but might.  My second is a 20" medium contour that is going into another gun, incomplete as yet.  Lilja barrels are not cheap, but they give good results.

Another data point js a CMMG upper I bought with 16" CMMG stainless barrel.  It is grouping at 0.4" at 100 yds with my best loads tailored for it.  It took a while to get the load developed, but it is sweet shooting.  That shows you don't always need length to get accuracy.  However, that won't be a long range gun.  I dropped that upper on a CMMG lower and added a Giessele SSA Service Rifle 2-stage trigger.  Total investment about $1625 to get sub 0.5 MOA at 100 yards.

Good luck with your search.
