seasprite
So a few days ago somebody left the freezer door cracked on the refrigerator and this was left like this all night and every thing was frosted up. Then the refrigerator started to warm up so I'm thinking great now I'm out of at least 1 grand for new fridge. But the Mr. Fix it in me said no research the internet. Found my problem and the solution so now I'm in the process of trouble shooting and have only one test left to run but the fridge needs to run a couple of hours before I can run the defrost test. Man when did this wounder called the internet come around it saves me thousands of dollars in repairs each year. So far the most expensive part on the defrost system is $60.00 far cry from a new fridge or paying labor for somebody else to look at it. Robocop1051
I tried to get the ice out of the freezer at my office. To make a long story short, don't use a screw driver to chip ice out of the freezer. One bad stab. One small hissssssss. I just said "fuck it" and walked out. I came back a week later and there were like 200 wet towels still piled in the corner and a big empty spot where the fridge used to be. They tell me that it just died... And no one knows why. The new fridge doesn't ice up :)

DNP
We have been having freezer issues for a few weeks. This info might be useful. I finally caved in and bought the wife a deep freezer for the garage...just to save all the stuff we had in the freezer. It's generating a lot of water every time it defrosts. That water should drain down into the bottom of the fridge, but instead it puddles in the freezer and then freezes. Which then stops the fan from circulating air in the freezer. She's leaning the right direction, and has been working for a good 10 years....I really don't want to buy a new one.

Check your drain to see if its blocked we had the same problem once, one of the kids freezy pops got stuck in the drain cleaned it out and was good to go. The new fridge doesn't ice up :) I went on a service call the summer at a gas station for this exact same problem but he poked numerous holes in the evaporator and lost about thousand dollars worth of refrigerant. He said hey man I was just trying to get the ice off. I replied with hey man would you clear the ice off your windshield in the winter with a framing hammer?!? The owner was PISSED told him what happened he looks at the guy and says you e worked here 8 years and never have you been so stupid?!? This bill is going to cost more then you get paid in a month!!!!! Shut it off or use a snap torch!
