Dane Armory
I was watching the womens 7.5km event today. Checked out the guns, 22caliber sub sonic rounds. 500gram triggers and the guns must weigh at least 3.5Kilos. The good ones cost $4000 and have some very nice accessaries. unforgiven
And the bolt look like it went straight back.Notice how some had blinders for one eye and wraparound for shooting eye.I think it was the American guy that had just iron sights.50 meters and I think target was the size of a quarter.Very cool. Robocop1051
The targets are 50 meters. Prone targets are 1.8" and standing targets are 4.5"
planeflyer21
Most of the olympic style competition firearms are silly expensive, pistols, rifles, or shotguns. Was watching the UofA ROTC rifle team practice a couple of months ago. Rifles with adjustments 12 different directions, bubble-level sights, shooting mitts, shooting jackets, blinder glasses. But when you have a magazine of .22 bullets making a thirty-caliber hole, it makes all the difference. Anybody ever shoot one of the Walther competition handguns? Sisco
We have a biathalon club up here that trains kids in proper techniques. The rifles are by far the biggest expense. I skiied the olympic biathalon training course outside West Yellowstone years ago. Would have liked to have something larger than a 22 with me that day. It was April and the Grizzlies had come out of hibernation and trashed the track by walking across it with their big paws. Don't know if it is even there anymore. Sisco
They use a lot of yoga breathing exercises to slow their heart rate during the shooting, then time to fire between heart beats. It is interesting training. The guy on Top Gear tried it with an Hand K MP5 and didnt even hit the target!
