survivalshop
The muzzle device should not make a difference as long as its for a .30 cal., choose what you like.Have you seen the choices of uppers made here in Florida ? , Spikes,Tactical Machine , Florida Arms , just to name a few . I will have no problem getting a good one , just which one. I'm not building just an upper assembly , I'm building a whole rifle. Although ,just having an upper to put on one of my AR's would be fine . I have extra lowers laying around I can use ,so why not a dedicated rifle in 300blk. I have a complete spare , new , milspec , M16 BCG to go in there also. I've had it for twenty years or more.
Jgun
I WISH I could build a dedicated 300. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare AR-15 lower at the present time and the FFLs here always make it such a pain every time I need to do a transfer. A good deal on a lower doesn't end up being such a good deal by the time I'm done with shipping, FFL fees AND aggravation. I think I'll see how I like the cartridge first and then think about getting a lower for it later.
survivalshop
I just ordered this today . Its the first time I've seen them for sale . At the POF sight , all they sell is the monolithic type . NP3 upper. It will at least match my POF Gen. III lower , even though its black . Might look pretty cool .My barrel will not be here till Monday . Was supposed to be here today , I see the tracker says Monday now .Hay, no problem building just an upper . Nice way to get several rifles with reduced cost . That's whats good about the AR platform , versatility.

Jgun
Wait just one minute. Didn't you say that you had to use an upper made in FL in order to help stimulate the economy down there? Unless they moved since the last time I looked, I don't think POF is located in FL, is it?. It is a nice looking upper though.
98Z5V
POF is in Glendale, AZ... Been there. <thumbsup>
survivalshop
Wait just one minute. Didn't you say that you had to use an upper made in FL in order to help stimulate the economy down there? Unless they moved since the last time I looked, I don't think POF is located in FL, is it?. It is a nice looking upper though. My second choice was AZ. ( I want to help them also, That's also why I bought a Dillon reloading machine )It was really all about getting a POF upper to match my POF ,gen. III lower. When I saw these were for sale @ Rainer Arms , I was torn & then ripped when I ordered it .Yes, I want to do as much as I can for the home state here , but I have not seen any POF uppers for sale like this , I figured , if you snooze , you lose , type thing . If I could find a LWRC stripped upper for my other lower , I would also buy it .Just to keep them as a matched set.
Jgun
I'm just jelous because I Still don't have a POF gun.

98Z5V
The 16" midlength barrel on my billet build was from Nordic Components, built for them by Wilson. It's a very, very nice barrel, and a tack driver. SS, that thing will be a shooter. <thumbsup>
survivalshop
Wait till you see the photo's of the NP3 POF upper . Man I did not think I would like it ,but its nice & looks cool on the black POF gen.III lower. If it only had M4 feed ramps , like the Wilson bbl. .Oh well some of that NP3 coating is going to be lost, but not much .
survivalshop
Upper photo's & others.with bbl. With POF gen.II lower. This M16 BCG is about twenty five years young & brand new . Jgun
Survivalshop, any more progress on this project to report? Some of the parts for my upper have begun to trickle in and I'm starting to get excited about the chance to finally try out the caliber for myself. By the way have you heard of anyonr that has loaded 300BLK ammo in stock?
survivalshop
I have not made a decision on the hand guard . Will probably go with the Vtac in a mid length as was my first choice(sure like the one I have on one of my 308's ) . I may make a special order with JP to have them Duracote it in the Titanium color . That might look cool with the NP3 color, just not sure yet.No ammo around yet ,so I will be going the reloading from the start. plenty of places to buy brass & dies . You don't even need 300blk dies ,there are others you can use with the same spec's . I see Redding has them & Foster of course has had them ,but I have heard of some bad dies from them out there . That may have bee taken care of already.I will probably just get the dies & make my own brass. I still have not got much loading data yet ,but will when I order the dies .I am going to get the upper done & test fire & work up loads on one of my assembled lowers while I'm putting together the lower & stock assembly. My Magpul sights are back ordered ,but ordered.Gen.II rear sight. survivalshop
Well I found a set of 300BLK dies & ordered them . Now I need some head space gages also.I think I changed my mind about a hand guard . I think I will get a Troy Battle Rail in mid length. I looked at the Vtac (was what I wanted ) & they are asking more $$ for it than the Carbine or full length rail, what's up with that . Well, I wanted something different , so be it . Jgun
I'm still trying to decide on my bolt carrier. The barrel is supposed to come with a fitted bolt so I only need to decide on the actual carrier. Since I originally started this project with the mindset of being able to shoot this against the .308 guys in the matches, a JP low mass bolt carrier sounds like a good choice, but I'm also hearing that this is a good cartridge for hunting inside 200yds. If I used the gun for that purpose I'd probably want the reg bolt carrier. I think I'll wait until I have all the other parts (including barrel) in hand to make that choice. Any idea how soon you may be up and running ? I figure your first hand feedback ought to be valuable to me regarding the bolt carrier choice. By the way, it sounds like your going to have one distinctive looking AR with that NP3 upper and a matching colored handguard. Your going to end up spending so much time answering questions at the range every time you break it out that you won't get much trigger time! survivalshop
My self ,personally , I use only M16 bolt carriers in my AR15's . Since this caliber uses normal M16/15 parts ,except for the barrel , the M16 Bolt carrier ,with its increased weight will help functionality with all the different ammo configurations. I have never used an AR 15 BC in one of my builds .I ,as you have read ,have an early M16 BCG to use ,but am having second thoughts about using it . Not because its an M16 carrier ,but I may want to use a chrome or Fail Zero BCG in it .The only thing that bothers me about that is , which will have the best compatibility with the NP3 coating. I will have to ask POF what they use or think. It will still be an M16 BCG & not an AR 15.I still need a charging handle & the hand guard & of course ammo or the ability to make it. They say the Dies should be in this week . I thought they were in stock ,but I missed that boat . If they are not sent by Friday , I have another place to get them . I also have to see about head space gages ,at least a go gage to start out with .As far as the added attention at the range , I get quite a lot with the AR 308's I have . Jgun
I haven't been building the AR's for all that long so I don't have a large stash of AR parts to draw from. I'm excited about trying this new caliber, because it's got me motivated about load development and other things that I haven't delved into in the past. One of the things that I'm dealing with is that since I don't have many years and many builds to draw experience from, I'm trying to make each one I put together, as versatile as possible. I know that no one gun can do every thing the best but I'd like to build this 300 in such a way that I can shoot it in the local matches AND be able to use it for hunting (if I decide the 300 rd is a suitable choice) I know my Kaiser .308 would be a better hunting gun but if this build comes in substantially lighter, I'd certainly prefer carrying it for a day in the woods. I guess I'll know better once I finish it. I also have heard that the Redding dies are the way to go. I haven't ordered them yet but if I can't get loaded ammo to test my gun out, you can be sure that this will become my priority. I'm still waiting for the load data I was promised by the barrel MFG. Once I have some info in that regard I will be sure to send it your way, just keep in mind that it will all be second hand and I won't be able to guarantee any of it.
