  1. I use the RCBS primer pocket swaging tool on mil spec crimped primer pockets & on lightly crimped 5.56 I use a de-burring tool, you only have to swage them once . The older die lock rings have a brass button under the set screw , to keep from damaging the die threads . New dies have a split ring with alien headed screw. I've been using Dillon lock nuts lately . I now use a big dollar digital scale , but still have & use (some times ) the balance type RCBS 5-10 scale .
  2. The only comparison between him & Mr. Stoner, is the two are associated with the most common battle rifles. Mr. Stoner designed a completely space age battle rifle( like no other rifle ) & the commie just took an already designed rifle & made minor changes to it . As I said above , just look at the German rifle & the AK, even internally . He copied it just like they have done with every thing else.
  3. Just read that my email failed , checked the email address & I typed it right , ummm ?
  4. Well if your a dedicated fan of DD products you will love the new magazine . Its an advertisers dream ,but to me a total waste of $ 8.99 & tax & I emailed the editor & told him so . The mag. is DD from front to back , including there complete line up catalog in the back . They are a a good company & make a good product with a bunch of big name gun slinger on there pay roll , but they are just another AR maker to me & not worth a whole magazine dedicated to them IMO . I liked the Book of AR -15's the way it has been produced in the past , where they had many products & tests , this one edition is a waste of my cash , I could have got this info for free from DD.
  5. Some time next summer, 2014 , but for now they will be going at it up to 200 yards. I set up the shims between the receivers & it locked the receivers up like they were formed together. The instructions that I'm using read , between 0.004_ 0.005 shims should be enough , but this receiver took 0.007 to tighten up the receivers & still be able to push the disassembly pin in/out with out too much force. Instructions read that a Pea sized portion of epoxy will be enough to bed the receiver ( these instructions are for an M16/AR 15 )& I used Modeling clay to make sure there was enough to bed what I wanted & the Pea size is good even for an AR 308. I measured the width to the upper receiver lug & the opening in the lower that accepts it & there is a 0.005 difference , of course the lower receivers lug receptacle is wider . I will also do something I have never done in bedding one of these , besides this method , & I am going to lock the BCG back into the lower receiver extension, during epoxy set up. I want to make sure there is alignment with the upper & lower, hoping this will do it . Like I said , I have more than one reason to bed this rifle & will be using a P-Mag to hold the BCG back into the extension, not that I think the mag will make a difference , but ya never know. Yes I'm photographing it all.
  6. 20"HB; -DPMS upper(original rail height ) _DPMS lower -Geissele SSA trigger _Fulton Armory Chome BCG _Kreiger Criterian 20" HB, by Fulton Armory , 1-10 twist with PRI, custom cut to barrel dia. ,Compensator -Fulton Armory free float hand guard ( only one available for a 308 back then ) _ A2 stock with DPMS 308 spring & buffer. _Millet 4 x 16 x 50 Tactical scope There are a couple of things on the 16" that I left out & have edited it
  7. He ripped off the idea for this rifle from the German STG 44 any way , even though he said they are not alike , pure BS.
  8. nice !
  9. This is where hand loading would be a big help. Bolt bounce is an option to look at , the carbine gas system has plenty of excess gas. But , the bolt hold open should not be effected by it , its got the mag pushing up on the bolt stop & as long as the BCG goes past it , it should stop it . Of course the Bolt stop would have to working to spec's .
  10. This is how she shot today with Hornady 168 gr. match bullets , my hand loads & they shoot pretty well out of my 20" @ 200 yards. These are @ 100 yards. . The middle grouping is from sighting the scope in @ 25 & 100 yards. -top right are two SMK that were loaded to the same specs as the Hornady's -bottom right are 169 solid copper bullets from questionable origin, I just used them as another base. - top left is five , yes five, of the Hornady 168 match bullets. - bottom left is the same as above , five Hornady bullets. - the one hole top left of center group , is a 150 gr. Barns TTSX bullet loaded with 4064, just shot it for Velocity comparison.
  11. Could you measure the buffer & weigh it . Also count the coils of the spring & measure it . Yes, it could be under gassed if gas block out of alignment & it does need to be checked , I don't care who made it .
  12. Can you manually, with an empty mag in the rifle , pull the charging handle back & the bolt locks back ? With no abnormal resistance on the way ?
  13. As the title reads , I will be putting my 16" against my 20" HB. There will be more to this , the 16 " I just put a 6x18x40 Nikon on it , I ordered the scope for my other build ,but since its a bit off to completion , the 16" is a nice home for now & always wondered how this 16" would shoot with glass on her. Other things that will go on with the 16" is , the upper to lower fit is not loose its beyond that , its probably the loosest fit I have ever seen . Its not that the disassembly or pivot pins are not tight , they are , as far as pushing them in or out , the upper can slide left or right when assembled . I plan on bedding the action on this rifle for two reasons , one , of course to tighten it up ,but also to see how that effects grouping , since I did a base study to day , the rifle as is a good shooter. The other purpose for bedding is , this rifle will not function right with Magpul P-mags , I want to see if aligning the upper , lower & receiver extension can fix this , as said the set is loose. I just ordered a Geissele two stage for the 16" to compare to the 20"s SSA . The Spikes enhanced trigger set up is OK but I could not compare the Spikes to a SSA , had to make it fair, as I can. 16" Rifle; SI Defence Gen. II billet upper receiver CMMG Billet lower (Early production ) Kreiger Criterion 16" HB with rifle gas system from Fulton Armory ,1 - 10 twist JP free float hand guard 12" Tango down pistol grip Magpul CTR stock with DPMS 308 carbine buffer , Tubbs (Superior Springs) , flat wire spring. Fulton Armory , Chrome BCG with POF roller cam Spikes Enhanced trigger system Nikon 6 x 18 x 40 scope that I put the target turrets on. As soon as I get the release agent & trigger we will see how the bedding changes things & I will post photo's of course , right now they are not cooperating.
  14. A bottle of release agent $4.35 , Geissele Trigger $ 165 & no shipping . I had a list a mile long of this & that's & I needed the Trigger for a project I'm doing now ,so it won out .
  15. There were none showing up here, but I see the free shipping one now , that's strange. You can't get plastic wrap in the places I want it or I would try it .
  16. AS the title reads , I usually see one here , whats up ? I need release agent & of course it will cost me over a hundred $$ because I can't just buy a $& item. <thumbsup>
  17. As said, one rd. in mag. & see if it will lock the bolt back on empty mag. & that will tell you if its under gased or binding some where .Check for loose carrier gas key , check gas rings on bolt . That Carbine gas system should have plenty of authority to cycle the action.
  18. I was waiting for him to sing "O OKLAHOMA " next. <lmao>
  19. All barrels will whip about when fired , with or with out a muzzle device. They whip up & down nicely . The only way to reduce a barrel's whipping is to increase the diameter. Like those bull barreled bench rest shooters. I have no doubt that a muzzle device can add or subtract from this & the only way to eliminate this is ti have none on there . The free float barrel debate has been going on for a long time & most believe it helps in keeping consistent accuracy . There are so many variables involved in what happens when you change this or that , as far as the way a rifled receiver fitment in a stock, its mind boggling . There may be a combination of things needed to be done to properly free float any barreled action. You can't compare a DI system to a piston system, two different harmonic & mechanical patterns . As far as what is flexing with in the AR platform , its mostly made of Aluminum , Made to be flexible, where the Steel Barrel is attached.
  20. Like 44'308 cal.
  21. This what happens to a 7mm 08 case when some one shoots it in a 30'06 chamber , some one needs to pay attention to what ammo for what rifle . I loaded the ammo for a hunter friend & he came to me about it & after checking his rifle , well he was not pleased with him self .It helps to have the right rifle with you with the right ammo. I spent some time test firing different test rd's. with his rifle to get the most out of it , one hole groups when all said & done . I can't help he has two same looking 700 bolts rifles in different cal's. in his safe . He said he couldn't understand why I showed such good groupings & his first & only rd. ( which the case stuck in the chamber , of course ) didn't even hit the target. Slight tap with a cleaning rod & this is what it gave birth to , a new caliber .
  22. I would pay more attention to Barrel/chamber , trigger & glass than BCG. ,Sure nice to have a better made BCG , but once the cartridge is in the chamber , the BCG is out of play ( as long as its locked & head spaced correctly ,that is ). I have a 20" & a 16" HB by Fulton Armory & the 20" is a tac driver , both have FA BCG's , the 16 "HB has only MBUS sights , but I have a 6 x 18 scope coming to do side by side comparisons this coming year . It will not stay on the 16" because I'm building an 18.5 this coming year & that's the 6 x 18's home when its done . Most will want a longer barrel for the retention of Velocity , for long range shooting . Nothing wrong with JP parts , they do make some of the best parts on the market , but I see no difference in a so called " Match " BCG & a STD. DPMS type, as far as operation . Barrel/chamber , trigger system , glass ,ammo & the shooter is what will get you to reach out & touch them. Some will say they want tight fitting receiver match up's vs. a looser fit ,but I see no way to factually test that, any more than comparing a " Match" bolt vs. a std bolt . No two barrels will shoot alike , so how can you do a side by side comparison if its a known factor. IMO
  23. That pin should be a precision fit , the set screw , is only to hold it in place & as said, hardened , not some thing I would want to try to drill out of a forged receiver, especially on where its at.
  24. I was told all firearm shipments we next day air , because they have better control over them . That's how I had to send them.
