    Debate

I've seen it on here a few times and it's been weighing heavy on my mind after I read a few comments lately. So I think it's time to open that can of worms again and see where it goes.... BUT here's the catch. If you are going to make a point, make it a valid point, have something to back it up as proof also. There will be no he said she said BS. If this gets off topic, I will have it deleted. With all that being said, here it is... Explain to me why or how, a push rod rifle is better than a piston rifle? (For some of you, you will understand my opening question and how it is phrased, some will not. So I will clarify it for you.) Explain to me why or how, a (so called) piston rifle is better than (what is called) a direct impingement rifle? If anybody has any questions off line, please PM me.
  3. any update on progress?
  4. That's what I like to hear... time to save my pennies and get them then.
  5. OK... I'm unclear on exactly what buffer and buffer spring set up you are currently using. Could you elaborate on that and possibly post pictures and sizes please? But form what I can tell just from the picture alone and what you have described is... your problem is in the buttstock / receiver extension tube. The UBR is specifically designed for the AR-15 style of rifle. There are modifications to allow the short tube to be used on the larger caliber though. Here is something in a way for you to check. **Make sure your buffer and buffer spring are in the rifle.** Pull the charging handle to the rear, locking the bolt back with the bolt catch. Look inside the rifle either through the ejection port or the mag well and see where the bolt stop is holding the bolt at. Is it on the carrier under the bolt? OR is it in front of the bolt face? If it is on the carrier, the receiver extension tube is short and you need a cut spring and short buffer. If it is on the bolt face as it should be, you have the proper spring and buffer for the short receiver extension tube. BUT... your buffer might be a little light.
  6. While looking around, I like the way the speed sight look and would like to try a set before dropping any coin on them. www.speedsights.com
  7. A friend has the Alien gear IWB for it and swears it's better than Crossbreed. http://aliengearholsters.com Not a bad price either. I do want to put different sights on it, just not sure what though.
  8. Who's got em? What changes have you made? What holster do you use?
  9. Believe it or not... the index pin is just set in the hole of the barrel extension. Once it's in the hole, some places put a drop of loc tite on it and tap it into place to let it set. But there are no threads on the index pin itself.
  10. your barrel is scrap... send it to me for proper disposal.
  11. <nutkick> dam spell check... trials. <laughs> As for the DPMS... I have no idea, I wasn't there for that. I only know what I worked on personally.
  12. your not gonna retire... you may leave work, but there's already a honey doo list that you haven't been told about yet. <laughs>
  13. if anybody would like the -12, let me know and I will see if I can email it to you.
  14. When Uncle Sugar did the trials for the M110, I know of at least four of the major players that submitted rifles for the trials. ArmaLite, Colt DPMS Knight's Armament. When going through the trials, each rifle had its own problems and not one passed all of the tests. The Colt rifles were submitted with Surefire cans, ArmaLites were submitted with AAC cans, and Knights were using their own. Since the testing, ArmaLite and AAC had a disagreement and ArmaLite switched to another brand for testing. Knights Armament ended up winning the contract for other reasons that were not published, but speculated by others in the gun community. * (speculation note) Knight already had an in with the Uncle Sugar. Already having the contract for the railed handguard, Knight already meet the rest of the requirements to qualify for a government contract. So it included undocumented deal on other parts also. But if you actually look at the Knights and ArmaLite side by side, you will notice that there are a few similarities between the two. 1. The design of the upper and lower have the same angles. 2. The earlier fiberglass handguards that Knights' and ArmaLite used, were made by ArmaLite. 3. Both ArmaLite and Knights' uppers use the same thread pattern on their uppers. 5. Both rifles were designed with Eugene Stoner at both companies. * Another side note about the M110 trials is that ArmaLite built the rifles that Colt had submitted for testing. So as everybody knows now, anything made for the government, it has a set or locked in price for X number of years. And any likeness of said item can not be sold to the civilian market for X number of years either. But since the other major players did not make the cut to win the contract, they went public with their version, and ArmaLite being first. Now that the initial number of years has passed, the Knights' version is able to be put on the open market, but not less than what they sold it to Uncle Sugar for.

    AR Trigger

what if my "Factory stock trigger" is and "ArmaLite" trigger?
  17. good day, and good times.
  18. I have some questions ... You said "regardless of ammo type" ... what type of ammo are you using and what grain? With an empty magazine inserted to the rifle, Will the follower activate the bolt stop when you physically pull the charging handle rearward? What size are the buffer and buffer spring? More questions to come, pending outcome...

    Armalite

now that is why they put the tech note out there. So if you tune your trigger, it take any and all liability off of ArmaLite if it fails or has problems.

    Armalite

At the time, the boss wanted to keep on the safe side. NRA competition lowest setting was 7 1/2 lbs. and thought anything less than that could create problems.

    Armalite

ArmaLite basically had three different types of triggers. Military style single stage trigger Tactical two stage National Match two stage The military single stage is just that. One stage and usually about 10 up to 12 lbs pull. The Tactical and National Match two stage were harder to tell apart. But usually you could see by the setting of the disconnector spring setting. OR... If it was already in a rifle, the National Match would be tuned to about 7 1/2 lbs on the low end up to 9 lbs. and the Tactical was anywhere from 8 to 10.
  22. Troy Ind. sight set for an M15 series rifle. Never mounted, new with no package. Asking $150 shipped for the set. MaTech military issue flip up rear sight. New and never mounted, no packageing. Asking $70 shipped. Sold to 98Z5V
  23. Something else to keep in mind also is that after shooting .22 through your barrel, shoot about 5 to 10 regular rounds through it when you are done. If not you will get a build up of lead and turn it into a dedicated .22 upper. This was the result of a guy that shot at least 2 bricks through his rifle. Along with having to ream out the gas port and replace the gas tube.
  24. wish I would have known... I'm about 3 hours away.
