  3. Well my search fu is no good today. My daughter has decided that she wants to change the color of the furniture on her rifle. Currently, it has pink, but now she would like blue. So, who, what, where can I find them?
  4. If I remember correctly, It should have been the last three of the serial number of the lower receiver. This way they were a mated set and was supposed to stay together.

  6. On Saturday, March 2, police were called to Shooting Sports for a man who was injured by a shooting. Indoor range shooting
  7. There is a wide variation on the amount of torque on the M-15 barrel nut. At a minimum you should have 35 ft lbs at the maximum, you could be at 65 ft lbs. All this will vary as long as there is a notch tdc of the barrel nut for the gas tube to pass through with out touching and you have at least got your 35.
  8. I got more wrapped up in accessories than what the rifle cost me to build.
  9. Well I'm in... I think.
  10. I'm just going to drop this one. Words just escape me. Hi-Point warranty...
  11. We were just having this same conversation in another thread... Read here...
  12. Just at first glance, you received some wrong parts. What are the measurements on the tube? The buffer on the left if for a rifle not a carbine. The springs... well what are their lengths?
  13. The shorter buffer is good in that shorter tube and the weight is in a good range also.
  14. I know I'm jumping in the middle of this but you're trying to put to much thought into this receiver extension tube and buffer and buffer spring thing. The companies that have been doing this longer had already worked out the math and figured out what combinations worked and what didn't. Here are the hard facts of the basics Receiver extension tubes · .223 / .308 rifle length 9-11/16” (inside depth) · .223 carbine length 6-15/16” (inside depth) · .308 carbine length 7-5/8” (inside depth) BUFFER SPRINGS · .308 buffer spring rifle and carbine length 14-1/8” · .223 buffer spring rifle length 13-1/2” max – 11-3/4” min · .223 buffer spring carbine length 11-1/4” max – 10-1/16” min BUFFERS · .223 rifle length 5-7/8” – weight 5.2 oz · .308 rifle length 5-3/16” – weight 5.4 oz · .223 carbine length 3-1/4” – weight 3.0 oz · .308 carbine length 3-1/4” – weight 5.4 oz Now with all this information it can get real confusing and if you keep over thinking this, your head is going to explode. But... IF... your receiver extension tube is 6-15/16" (7" cause what guy don't want to round up?), 1. You need a spring for the .308/7.62 round, it is a stout spring and usually around 14" long to 13-1/2" long. 2. The buffer will have to be slightly shorter (about 3") but much heavier than one used in a .223/5.56 carbine as a minimum at least 5.2 oz.to 5.5 oz. IF... you receiver extension tube is 7-5/8", you can use a standard spring and carbine buffer that ArmaLite uses for their AR-10 This is an example of the proper kit... ArmaLite AR-10 kit
  15. Doin good for a change. Will fill in details in the friends page.
  16. Check this place out... Davenport guns AR10NM
  17. ArmaLite used to do the 24" barrels and called the "T" models. With a free float fiberglass hand guard. But the interest lost its calling and they dropped it from the line up. As for the full size stocks... they all use the standard rifle length receiver extension tube (buffer tube). It only changes when you change to a collapsible buttstock. That is when you have to be very careful on which receiver extension tube you get. Other than that... that is a good looking stick ya got.
  18. I am not sure if the AMU did it or not. I do know ArmaLite did .260 and a .300 SAUM for a brief time, but was having troubles with the proper gas port sizing and getting it to run reliably. The last time I spoke with the AMU, they were still using .308's "across the board" in NRA Service Rifle competition and had a good recipe for loading their rounds. I tried to get that recipe, but it was being kept under lock and key. The AR-10NM was and is a bootiful rifle that would shoot MOA all day long.
  19. For quite a while, Lothar Walther made the match barrels. Not sure who does them now.
  20. The ArmaLite AR-10 was the first 7.62 / .308 that was allowed in competition at Camp Perry with the help of the AMU. I used to supply parts to the AMU for their AR-10 builds also. Part of the reason that the AR-10 was allowed as a "service rifle" is that it was shortly after the ARMY adopting the SASS.
  21. I've built and worked on a few of these at Camp Perry. But the basic design of the "Service Rifle" is it looks like a standard M16. They have loosened up on some of the rules and they are able to change stocks and some cosmetic looks. The rifles I would work on or sell were ArmaLite M15 National Match rifles. 1/8 twist, SS, free float barrel, with a 2 stage trigger adjusted to as light or as low as it was legal (they were weighed and marked). The lower and upper were just standard.

    lower jig

So I'm thinking about giving another shot at finishing a few lowers or three. What jig is being recommended? Any particular tools that make things go smoother?
