  1. There's my little dilemma. It has to be pinned, welded before it goes together to be legal.. don’t want to sacrifice accuracy for a little muzzle jump.Short of lopping off end of barrel it's a permanent fixture afterwards . Not to mention the wasted time and $100+. Looking at PWS brake mostly....Williams Gunsights has new one for AR 's but haven't found any reviews on it..
  2. I wear plugs and or muffs at work all the time..It's seems odd but you can hear some things better with them on..radio, people talking and machine noises.Think it blocks out those white background noises...constant hum of lights and other machinery running. Been pretty religious about hearing protection all these years in factories. May be why still have excellent hearing ..
  3. Sling attachment point, light, bipod and pistol grip....my LR 6.5 doesn't have any holes in handguard ..I gotta drill and tap for sling and bipod.while I'm at it, may as well put a rail section on it for a light... I've got a couple with and couple without....Think your better off having it and not needing it than needing and not having....kinda like the ones that are smooth in rear and short rails around front..best of both
  4. Looking at different brakes for new rifle. I 'd like to hear real world experiences if you've found any differences in the accuracy of a rifle with one break or another.??? how about porting vs. thread on?? Or is it best just to leave it plain flat muzzle...?? I like to see hits through scope, it's not a recoil shy thing ..I save that for the Rem Ultra Mag....One manufacturer claims no difference, another says may change point of impact but not grouping....Rather hear field reports from user...
  5. Sad to see kids leave the nest...especially so young...My 6.5 Grendel is bye, bye this friday ...but it's parting will give life to another sibling...bigger badder....a . 338 Lapua ...
  6. We used have multi cal. registrations for TC Contender, Encore handguns.Several yrs.back they informed us we had to register every barrel we owned or it would be considered an unregistered handgun if it was attached to frame and you'd be subject to arrest and prosecution ....There was a period of almost a year that you couldn't buy a TC in NY state because no one would ship them here....That started when they went to a ballistic fingerprint program. All new handguns needed a spent shell shipped with firearm to be sent off to a data center when purchased ...last I knew this multi million $$ fiasco hasn't helped to solve a single crime....couple other states have had this and dropped it as a waste of time and money..not here..rule is, if you keep throwing $$$$ and manpower at a problem it will get better.....even if it's an imaginary one..
  7. I see I'm not only one frustrated by backorders....big show in Harrisburg Pa. this weekend..hope to come home with a bag full of Magpul furniture for 2 rifles and 6.5 brass. If I find stuff on backorder I'll buy it and cancel order....Weather breaking around here finally, plus daylight savings equals time and temps to shoot after work...
  8. Hi cap and a rail under 6 bills is gonna be tough... drop the metal frame requirement and you'd have a truckload of choices. Like my 1911's but I'm a true believer in Glock now....when it absolutely, positively has to work every time at anytime
  9. Have you looked at the one piece Burris for ARs? I have couple of them. Look good. Nice and sturdy. Would they be too high on the bigger gun platform?? Sometimes you get a bad scope, sometimes you get a jewel..got a Tasco 2X on a 45-70 TC Contender that has refused to give up it's guts for the last 15 yrs...
  10. Under $500..hard to beat Nikon Buckmaster and Monarch....for a "cheap" under$500 look at Osprey.little heavy but rugged built , pretty decent glass and adjustments, side focus. Under 1K...Burris Black Diamond, Leupold VX Long Range scopes.... No experience over a grand..maybe when kids are outta school....and have jobs...and move out...if I live to see that day. OH...and don’t forget Eotech's...love mine..
  11. Have a 3-10 x 40 on Rem. 700 in. 308..think it's a great scope, especially at that price point..clarity and adjustments are as good as others that cost a buck-buck and a half more...I wonder if the 4200 is noticeably better ...anyone have both as a comparison??
  12. Spoke with shop owner just yesterday about this very thing. He shoots long range and benchrest competition. I know that $$ is no object to him for equipment, all his stuff is custom. He's used Leupold glass for years but has changed his four competition guns over to Sightrons this last year as have many others he shoots with. Adjustment, repeatability is more accurate he claims...as for high end glass, like NF and Schmit Bender, it's durability your paying for..adjustments can only be made so accurate, glass just so clear...his recommendation was after $800-$1000 your wasting $$$ on a hunting/ target scope. I've got a broad range of optics from cheap Bushnells to Leupold LR scopes (no NF yet)and I've decided you definitely get what you pay for..but if I was to find myself falling out of a helicopter, I'd rather I landed on a $2500 scope than a $500 one........thankfully woodchucks don’t require drops from aircraft.....This isn't gospel..to each his own..its just what I took away from a conversation with someone vastly more experienced than myself......That said,I'd still like a NF just for wow factor ..I get older but refuse to grow up...Still want shiniest coolest toys on the playground..
  13. They mirrored the assault weapons ban here into state law. We can have "approved "muzzle breaks pinned, welded ..no flashhiders, no threads.I feel your pain.
  14. Well concealed (momma doesn't even know its there)Glock full of Hornady TAP FPD at arms length from bed. AR carbine, with mag full of 75gr.Hornady next to it ,about 5 seconds away. In case the sh-t gets crazy....kinda got off topic on first post..there is an 1100 Rem. next to AR if necessary.
  15. The crazy people clinging to guns was a little self depricating humor. Hard to convey in print. Don’t take it wrong way. When I was in school we were waiting for the commies to bomb and invade us. Remember those air raid drills like it was yesterday..into the hall, against the wall with legs crossed and head down and teachers swatting you if you made a peep .. Looking back now, we were just kissing our asses goodbye.
  16. Don't use lapping compound...I die cut 400 and 600 grit emery paper to fit tool..worked great
  17. Like to keep at least 1K of each caliber as stock, replacing it as I shoot it up...the big 5 that is...308,223,7.62x39,9mm,45..and at least 100 rounds for each bolt gun caliber ..that sound reasonable?? Or am I becoming one of those crazy people I hear about on news...clinging to my guns and religion ..smile ..that way they never know what your thinking :D ;D ;D
  18. Waiting backorder parts..but here I am on Saturday morning working for the slavemasters at the plant so I can order more stuff. Be back again tomorrow at 5am for more of it..see something cool.order it....then work OT to pay for it....kind of a vicious cycle :P...damn you Black Rifle Disease ..I'll beat you someday
  19. Batteries??? .and their reason was what? Here we get checked for cough and cold medicines(drug manufacturing ingredients),automotive chemicals and just about anything aerosol spray(I hear people like to inhale all kinds of stuff)...never heard IDing for batteries. <dontknow>
  20. Natural progression I guess..AR15 carbine, dcm rifle, hvy bbl varmint, 6.8spc, 6.5 grendel...looking for something to shoot farther better faster..was thinking about anLR260., but a 6.5 Creedmoor caught my eye. Still have the others. Tough to part with any of them. The PTR91 I traded for the Creedmoor kinda disappointed me in the accuracy department. I attribute it to lack of a solid scope mounting system, not the gun itself.I'd like another carbine length 308, not sure which way to go yet...DSA or DPMS.I'm leaning towards the free worlds right arm.
  21. This looks like the one on new SCAR 17S...gonna try it on a 223
  22. Funny ..I just made one of these for an AR15 couple weeks ago..building a mini sass..lathe and a piece of bar stock...didn't know anyone sold them.took idea from bolt action accurizing article. Figured if it works on bolt gun why not autoloader.
  23. Think he's ignoring you guys ....or the light bulb hasn't come on yet ::)
  24. Fired off a couple questions to PWS other day about using their 308 break on a 223 bull barrel. They got right back to me with answers and explanations, not just yes or no..very helpful to me ...They've got my business. <thumbsup>
  25. 308reloaded reminded me of incident near here last summer. Man broke into an old immigrant couples home and owner shot him twice as he was coming through bathroom window, one in the belly and one in the "groan" :o. Then sets with guy until cops, ambulance shows. Reporter asked him if he was frightened by incident. He replied, no, as a young man in the Ukraine he fought the Germans and the Russians, what's to be frightened of here......probably ruined the crooks love life..prison love life that is <laughs>
