free float rail for oracle
Retired JM replied to mikefla31's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
I understand buyer loyalty, but by the same token that loyalty must be earned by the shop. The way they earn it (and keep it) is by providing prompt customer service, whether it's your first experience with them or your 1000th. Order your sleeve from DPMS and be done with it. -
I think it's the other way around, bro. All .308 Win chambers will handle 7.62 NATO, but not all 7.62 chambers will handle .308 Win. It's the exact opposite for 5.56 NATO/.223 Rem. And I concur with SS, the small differences in pressure bewtween 7.62 and .308 is really a moot point, given modern barrel steels.

AR-10 Sticky Charging Handle.
Retired JM replied to brazosvet's topic in AR-10 General, Technical Discussion
And the pictures are posted where? <thumbsup> Glad I could help a brother out. Charging handle, you say. Damn, I woulda never have thought that was the culprit given your description of the issue. I guess that's why Armalite makes the big bucks. EDIT: I sat and thought about it for a minute and it makes sense now. If you look just forward of the cam pin on the bolt carrier, there's a "shelf" milled into the bolt carrier. This is where the trailing edge of the CH lug engages the bolt carrier when pulling the CH to the rear. Perhaps the offending CH lug wasn't long enough to lock up with the shelf and when you pulled to the rear, the CH was pulling against the gas key and not providing enough leverage to manually unlock the bolt. Please post an update when you get the new CH. -
308 or 260 for long range hunting rifle?
Retired JM replied to TomBruto's topic in General Discussion
Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner! The .260 (and 6.5 Creedmore/Grendel) are great competition rounds, but for hunting medium-large game at distance, I think you'd be better served by something in the .30-.35 caliber range lest the hunter become the hunted. -
AR-10 Sticky Charging Handle.
Retired JM replied to brazosvet's topic in AR-10 General, Technical Discussion
If you haven't tried this already, put a couple of drops of oil down the opening for the cam pin and manually work the bolt forward and back to spread it. Then reassemble the rifle and see if that helps. Also, remove the buffer/buffer spring and wipe it down with an oily rag. New Armalites are built snug. BTW, did you get your package yet? -
As I retired, we were starting to receive the first PEQ-15s. I got to play with a couple before I threw my boots over the wire and I gotta tell you that it was MILES ahead of the sight it replaced, the PEQ-2. The only down side was the visible laser tended to wash out beyond 50m in bright sunlight. I didn't think that was too big of a deal, since the visible laser was to be used for CQC/CQM. I've been told that the PEQ-16 is better in that respect and also adds a visible white light. I thought one of the best features of the 15/16 was a unified zero - one set of adjustment dials for both the IR and visible laser - Zero one laser and the other is zeroed, too.

Wanted to Show Off My Build

Nicely done. How does it shoot? -
<lmao>I'm stealing that line.

Welcome to the site and best of luck in your goal. Building a .308 AR isn't very different from an AR15. Buying the parts is, though. With AR10/.308 AR's, you really have to sort the wheat from the chaff since there's no set standard to refer to for quality like there is for the M16 family of weapons (FOW). Again, welcome to the site.

Another vote for Geissele. I have an SSA in one of my 5.56 rigs and love it.

Yup. Sorry about that. I could've written "review," but us military/fomer military folks love us some initials and acronyms. <thumbsup>

A mid-80's CZ75 that didn't have the Canadian import mark. I bought the pistol at the West Berlin Rod and Gun Club in 1985. At the time, the US had an embargo on all Warsaw Pact-produced items. So the guns were imported into Canada, marked as Canadian and then exported to the US. Germany didn't have the same import restrictions, so you could find some interesting stuff at USAEUR rod and gun clubs at the time. I sold the pistol to my uncle IOT finance the purchase of a Detonics (Yes, THAT Detonics) Long-Slide .45 Jammomatic. To this day, it remains the worst single firearms purchase I have ever made. My uncle still has the CZ75 and has resisted every attempt I've made over the last 25 years to buy it back from him, claiming it's the best shooting pistol he's ever had. I simply want it as a curio of the Cold War.

Nice set-up; it looks pretty familiar, LOL. I don't know of any other way to set up a scope other than to use a level. Your local gunshop probably has boresighting equipment and could ensure the scope is centered properly in it's mount. That'd be the first place I'd go if I didn't own my own set-up. The REPR is the most gratifying rifle I own. I hope you find it to be the same. And when you get the chance, a quick T&E on that Weaver scope would be nice. I'm thinking of buying one for my REPR. Currently, it's come down to the Weaver 3-15x or the Midway/Vortex Viper 5-15x. Get your scope sorted out and head out to the range!

Which is why I never went for a 6.8/6.5 set-up. Great rounds, but too spendy to feed (for me) even with reloading. I've never understood why 6.8 never gained larger traction within the shooting community. And welcome to the site.

Same here in OK. High 70s-low 80s thru WED. It's like we skipped spring and went right to summer. Just hope it's not like last summer. That poop was Baghdad hot.

Welcome from Texhoma.

Good to know, thanks for the heads up. I hope that whatever CMMG comes up with it's near the same price as the previous model, it was quite a steal at the price it was offered. Mega's can be had in both Armalite and KAC patterns, as I understand it.

Welcome!

Sounds like you're wanting a CMMG 308 w/18" SS barrel and Magpul PRS stock, all in FDE. Check out CDNN's catalog at cdnninvestments.com.

You could get yourself a lower assembly and then focus on buying/building an upper assembly. That would give you a wider variety of makers and price points to choose from.

Good lookin' rig, Bro. -
Welcome to the site. If you know a bit about the M16 FOW (And being retired .mil, I'd think you do), then you already know a bit about .308 ARs.
