I had my youngest shooting a 1911 when he was 7 and he shot his first IPSC match with a 1911 at 10. I started him out shooting the 1911 seated and only one round in the gun, then we progressed to two rounds and so on. Handing a full auto Uzi to a nine year old with no confirmed training is just plain stupid!

Yup, I questioned the guys over at 300blktalk.com and they told me the same thing, the stamp comes with the approval email and you just have to print it out!

That's pretty much what the guys at 300blktalk.com are reporting. I am interested in seeing how long it takes to have that stamp in hand after being approved too.

Tom, my shooting buddy has the contact number of a guy in Las Cruces who sells cast bullets for 300BLK for $75 per 500. I believe they are 200+ grn. bullets already sized and lubed. When I have a chance I'm going pick a batch up and load 'em up and shoot 'em. I'll report back my findings here afterwards. Heck, the worst that could happen is I would have to disassemble the gun and clean all the lead out and I have the technology to do that! <thumbsup>

Tom, I did a little research over at 300blktalk.com. A lot of those guys are powder coating their cast bullets before loading them (no other lube) but several have used cast and lubed lead bullets with and without gas checks and none have had any problem with fowling the gas port. My shooting buddy (the one who got me & Josh spun up on building 300 blk's) has also shot quite a bit of cast bullet loads in his with no problems. The general consensus seems to be that any lead that might find it's way into the gas port is blown on through the gas system by the gas itself.

I'm not even building an SBR. I decided to go with a pistol build with the Sig SB-15 brace, it's a whole lot less hassle and I like the way my son's pistol turned out.

Well, doesn't make any difference anyway, the mold is no longer in my possession. I looked all over for it and I no longer have it I guess. I did have one of the bullets in a parts drawer and it was a 155 gr. bullet. I checked my old Lyman manual and I was loading with Unique powder but not sure of the charge. I'm going to guess it was around 13 to 14 grs.

The way they are talking over there it's 3 weeks from filing to email notification of approval. I've never done an SBR but I get the impression that once they've gotten the email notification they can go ahead and assemble the SBR.

Back in the 80's I used to shoot cast bullets in a 30-06 I had, used them on jackrabbits just for the fun of it. They had gas checks on them and were cast straight up tire weights. I've still got the mold and sizer/lube die around here somewhere. I have absolutely no idea what load I used though, it's been so long ago, but they shot pretty good and leading wasn't a problem. I need to check my old Lyman manual and see if I have the load in there. I should dig that stuff up and cast some bullets to try in the 300 BLK.!

My oldest son is the same way. He's somewhat ambidextrous but always favored right handed except for shooting rifles.
