I agree that open carry of an AR-15 without having a specific reason such as going to a range to shoot or some other good reason is not the brightest decision. As has already been stated, even though you can lawfully do something doesn't mean you should. Having been a street cop for 23 years and 20 of those years spent as a shift supervisor, and based just on the facts in the article I would have to say Mr. Worley has one heck of a lawsuit.

Ron, by location I didn't mean where the engraving was located, I meant the location of the manufacturer (city and state). Sorry about that, after I went back and read that post I thought "Well, that sure sounds confusing!" <lmao>

Gnat, the ATF has specifications on depth etc. on the engraving. There are a lot of places that can do it that come up by doing an online search. I'm getting mine done by a local 'smith who makes AR-15 barrels for Brownells. If you can find someone local you can save the expense of shipping a 'firearm'.

Gotta question that one Ron. My local Class 3 dealer says the engraving has to be done before the Form 1 is sent in because the receiver has to be described in the form and the manufacturer's name and location engraved on the receiver is a pertinent part of that description.

Nothing planned as of yet. Probably do some grilling on the 4th and then go watch the Chamber of Commerce fireworks show, watch THEIR money go up in smoke! Saturday I plan on shooting a USPSA match in Las Cruces.

Boycotting would always be my first choice, but in a town the size of mine you don't have that option with some businesses. Case in point, our movie theater/bowling alley/arcade/mini golf complex. It's pretty much the only entertainment in town and the next option is Las Cruces, an hour's drive away. The complex is owned and managed by the county and is posted "No firearms allowed except for On Duty Police Officers". If it was just me, I would avoid the place like the plague but there is also my wife and 2 granddaughters so we do go there from time to time. Security (when they are actually working) isn't armed. I know this for a fact because I worked security there for the first 3 years it was open. This poop started before the Aurora Colo. shootings and just before I quit, and was one of the reasons I quit. I continue to carry when I take my family there and have told two county commissioners that I will continue to do so.
