The Armalite buffer tube is longer and uses AR-15 size buffers while the Aero tube is the shorter AR-15 length and uses a short buffer that is usually lighter than the H3 buffer that Armalite uses. I always recommend using the Armalite buffer kit. Listed as out of stock but they are usually back with some pretty quick, sometimes a phone call will get a kit. https://www.armalite.com/product/ar10rekit01-6-position-receiver-extension-kit/

Just look to Toolcraft for a nitride BCG, maybe Brownells as well, good quality at a great price. Turn around and go to Wilson Combat for a barrel. LaRue MBT triggers are the schit, best AR trigger for the money out there.

A decade ago I was buying lots of old tools at auctions and selling them on ebay, sold several old sets of pin gauges that I wish I would have kept, can't bring myself to buy the chineseum after fondling a real tool in the past. I looked up the current Starrett offering, not one mention of made in America......... it looks chineseum. Wish I would have kept one of those 1950's new in the box sets I gave a dollar for...... https://www.starrett.com/category/111501#currentPage=1&displayMode=grid&itemsPerPage=12&sortBy=wp/asc

^^^^What he says! Can’t beat the Wilson Combat barrels or the LaRue MBT trigger. It will be difficult to come in at 7 pounds without going all out on parts, lots of titanium and carbon fiber would be required.

Another tidbit the MSM isn't saying much about. I am finding it difficult to receive the normal daily emails from ZeroHedge, I have re-subscribed numerous times, the subscription notice comes but the dailies never show up, almost like my email service doesn't want me to see what they say, must be flagged as "fake news"......... lots of articles there on this virus https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/canadian-scientist-center-chinese-bio-espionage-probe-found-dead-africa

In need of advice from seasoned Ar10/LR308 Folks
jtallen83 replied to xd40carrier's topic in Building a .308AR
Ask him if he will back that up, change should to WILL, I doubt very much. Stick with the same manufacturer for upper and lower receivers. Watch for their blem sales, I buy them regular and have rarely been able to find a blemish and when I do it is some miniscule pinpoint in the finish. -
Not a big fan of NiB myself. I don't find a big advantage to lubricity or ease of cleaning over the nitride/QPQ finishes and they do not add any to the dimensions plus usually cost a little less. I have experienced some flaking on Nib but that could be a manufacturer issue. I have 12.5 inch 308AR's, factory and home builds, the DI versions do not recoil excessively but I think I would stick with full mass BCG's just to help soak up some of that energy. A standard nitride BCG from Toolcraft or Brownells will be more than adequate.

Some thoughts on chinese information on the virus; I don't trust my own lying government let alone the commie party of china. Mark it down, this event will be used to grab more power, by their government, our government, the world gold government. They will not let a "crisis" go unanswered!

More to think about when it comes to this virus. Bill is usually a guy I trust for facts but he didn't give me much to go on in this video, hate to think he is part of the scare machine. There is a statement in the America Uncovered video that I wish could become more the focus of this issue, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to let the world economy hinge on an oppressive authoritarian regime, right Bill!

They essentially become one reciprocating mass so taking weight off one and adding weight to the other negates the effects, also negates a good deal from your bank account. Lightweight BCG's are really only a plus when building race guns. When you lighten the reciprocating mass you do ease the recoil but can pay a price on the reliability side. For a recoil system you cannot go wrong with get the Armalite kit linked here, both in reliability and in price it is the gold standard for the platform. It uses the AR-15 H-3 buffer so if you want to start playing with lowering mass you have lots of different weight buffers to choose from. https://www.armalite.com/product/ar10rekit01-6-position-receiver-extension-kit/ I have tried the Superlative gas block on a 16 inch rifle gas 308 and on the bypass side, the advantage to the brand, it will not allow enough gas to bypass to make much difference, it will not adjust far enough to stop function so cannot be set per the factory instructions. It only worked on the restrictive side so you are adding an extra complication for no real advantage over other basic restrictive type adjustable blocks. Overall there isn't that much advantage to an adjustable gas block unless you are running a suppressor. You can ease the recoil some by turning it down but again the more you turn it down the more you lose on the reliability side. I think you may be better served in your recoil and muzzle rise goals with a good muzzle brake/compensator or a suppressor. I have not built a totally low mass rifle in the large platform but have in the AR-15, low mass BCG, a reduced power recoil spring, and a buffer with all the weights removed. It is a very soft shooting rifle and stays on target when the bolt comes home. A great range toy for the wife and kids but NOT the rifle I would use for hunting or home defense due to the chance of malfunctions being greatly increased.

Two items seem to contradict each other, a light weight titanium BCG and then a heavy buffer, what’s the rationale on that?

Do it! I've been considering swapping out my P716 for one when the LGS has one.

I have found my 1911 really likes those bullets, most accurate bullet I found for it. I would have to dig into the notes for the load I ended up with but it wasn't that fast. I have a big pile of them, everytime I bought a Hornady die set or other reloading equipment I would get a free box, not sure if they are still doing that or not.

I use numbered bits and check with calipers when I find the fit, sometimes I end up with something between the bit sizes but it has worked for me to this point, close enough for the girls I go out with.

Sorry I forgot you were the ultimate decider of all things here....because you say so. I am the dick. How could someone not be exactly what YOU think they are after reading a paragraph or two on the screen. Anything that doesn't agree with your view is just plain wrong.......they have terms for that arrogance with a touch of narcissism, got some of that myself. Again, that is how it comes off when you read the words on the screen and have no history or personal experience to take into account. You just keep doing you, I will continue to make it known to the new people that show up that yours is not the only viewpoint here on what is proper etiquette. Dicks or not I will try to help if I can without belittling, berating or insulting them, might ignore them if I can't see a way to help. This is not basic training where you weed out the chaff with those tactics. I doubt you see it this way but I would not waste my time with these type posts if I didn't consider you an "online friend", it's meant as friendly advice, same advice I would give my brother or long time friends, yours to take, think about, or dismiss out of hand but mine to give no matter how it is taken.

@98Z5V if the 11 inch doesn’t do it for you I will buy it, still a few short, and haven’t measured them all.
-
You know I had to add to this, it might be your perception, and many times you end up right but honestly you come off as a dick for no reason many times. Whatever you do don’t start trying to understand where someone else is coming from, don’t even think about giving a new guy a little slack. (Sarcastic) I see you prematurely chase off new people, but that’s just how I see it, I have never been in your presence and frankly your in person reputation doesn’t mean a thing when all a person is seeing is your words on a screen. But you do you, whether it drives away members or not.
-
@98Z5V Yep, 11 inches, it gives me about an 1/8 in difference in the cut out between a Matrix, DPMS, and Aero uppers.
-
5 barrels measured and all in the same place, only slight difference in port size and that could very well be my chinese measuring tools. One of these is a SIG factory rifle barrel. Not sure where these different gas tube lengths are coming from.
