Okay. So we've got yet another one of those good news/bad news scenarios. The R2 luck continues. <laughs>
So I picked up the time to swap out the rails on the 10 SBR. It snowed here anywhere between 8 and 12 inches over Thursday night/Friday morning. Anybody that's familiar with the DC area knows that any kind of snowfall like that will just cripple this area. You know.......government closes.....school closes.....people completely lose their minds (acting as if they've never seen the white stuff before)....earthquakes happen....locust's swarm.....and pretty much the world stops spinning on it's axis, which causes great tsunami's and tidal waves. Pretty much Armageddon. Go ahead and laugh New Englander's and you guys from the Midwest. I ain't makin this $hit up. That's how these nimrods react around here.
So anyway, that kinda screwed me over with some stuff at work Friday (yeah.....I showed up.....shocker), and pretty much killed what I had planned for today (workwise). Leaving me the time to work on my true love.....Laura (the 10 SBR).
So I proceed to tear the sexy girl down. Get her completely apart. Damn was she filthy. Something Rob and I have in common (besides being downright sexy men :catfight:) is hating to clean these fukers. But....being that she's in pieces, and just a downright dirty girl, I then proceed to give her a good scrubbing. Hell, her parts probably haven't been that clean since I first assembled her. So....I'm about to re-install the barrel, when somehow, the port door rod comes sliding out. Well.....no big deal....I'll just slip the damn thing back into place......right? BIG NEGATIVE. Somehow....and don't ask me how I did it.....I proceed to bend the fuking rod. So.... fu@k ....I casually say to myself. No problem....I'll just tweak her back into shape. DOUBLE BIG NEGATIVE. I somehow turned that little bastard into something that looked like a worm that had twisted...roasted and died on a hot piece of concrete during summer. Well.... fuk again..... I say to myself....still casually of course. After all. This is no big deal. I'll just wonder over to the parts bin and whip out a brand spankin new one.
Well? Get ready. You wanna know what the only part for uppers that I don't seem to have in stock is? YEAH......you probably guessed it by now ladies. FUK!!!!!! :rant2:
Now keep in mind that Armalite makes two different lengths of port door rods. A standard size, and a slightly longer one for free float rails. And I DO have the "slightly" longer one in stock for free float rails. BUT......the design of this Noveske (SWS) rail requires that I use the standard size one. FUK!!!!!! :loser:
All you can do is laugh (and drink) at this point.
And because brother geistacwm (aka Matthew) was nice enough to let me borrow the barrel nut wrench, I don't wanna put him out and make him wait to get it back. So what shoulda been a simple swap of rails......turned into another couple hundred bucks outlay on my part. I ordered the nut wrench from SWS, along with a handful of port door kits from Armalite. Realistically, I'd want to have the nut wrench anyway in case I ever had to pull the barrel for some reason down the road. And, I'll always be able to use the other AR-10 port doors....either as spare parts or as part of other builds. I've still got a couple uppers waitin to be assembled anyway.
So the laughs are on me today ladies. No charge. <lmao>
You're welcome.
