  1. Hello from MD.
  2. Anyone who says that they're not a fan of the large AR platform, obviously hasn't shot one. Hell, I was never really an AR guy in general.......that is, until I bought my first AR-10. Now I'm starting to get the damn things stacked up like cordwood. Sheeesh.....gotta get yet another gang-box now to store them in.
  3. I'm thinking that I might go with the Ranier rail that Edge suggested. It seems like it'll cover up most of the barrel, and get the look that I'm going for. No matter what, I've still got a couple months till the tax stamp gets here to make a final decision.
  4. Just throwing this pic up so everybody can get a visual of the difference. The lower rifle is a regular 16" carbine that I built last year. As you can probably tell. I appear to have an Armalite disease.
  5. Well, knowing our beloved BATFE, it should only be about another 4 or 5 months before she can be fully assembled.
  6. I'm kinda liking that Ranier rail Edge. And it's the perfect length that I'm looking for. Don't know how I ran right by it. I've been thru that site recently....must have missed it somehow (meaning stupidity). This is exactly why I threw all of this out here. I knew that between all the guys here, we'd come up with something. As she sits, this baby is approximately 31" with the stock fully collapsed. It's weighing in just under 7 pounds with no guts in the upper. I'm looking forward to getting this one put together. And now I'm gonna end up with a spare handguard. Oh well.....looks like I'm gonna have to plan on building yet another carbine. HA!
  7. Ok. So I said that I would throw some pics up. The length of this tube is 12.75" from the back of the lockring to the muzzle end. That .75" is what got me with this one. As you can see in the 2nd pic, the threads for the can are just inside the tube. The release for the AAC 7.62 SD would be inside the tube.........and a big pain the ass to get to. I'm kinda liking Robo's alpha rail idea, as long as it'll fit on the 308 platform. Oh.....and for legal purposes. This is not a functioning rifle. It has no BCG in the upper or gas system parts installed (still waiting on the tax stamp).
  8. Didn't think that the alpha rail would fit a 308 Robo. But that's the perfect length that I'd be looking for if it would fit an AR-10. That would leave just a little bit of barrel and muzzle brake hanging out of the end of it. And.....would look totally cool with the can on it. Gentlemen....we may have a winner. Robo.....if you're ever lost and wind up in Maryland.......you're a welcome guest.......even though I've heard that you have to hate us guys with class 3 equipment. grin
  9. Oh....and it can be railed or smooth. Either way.....I'm planning on running my EOtech 553 on it. Ron
  10. Yep. Something in that range. The Armalite "T" FF is approximately 12". But just too damn long. That's why I figure as mrraley said, that I could probably try to cut that one down and try to clean up the threads for the lockring, but I was hoping to be able to find a shorter rail. I've reached out to Noveske, but they don't make the 10" rail that they put on their Leonidas anymore. And I can't find anybody else who makes a handguard in the 10" to 12" range. But you definitely go the idea I'm looking for.
  11. It does look like it's gonna be a blast (pardon the pun) to shoot. I should probably clarify here guys. I'm looking for handguard ideas for this build. At least in the 10" range or a little longer. Once again, similar to the way Noveske built thier Leonidas version, but I would like the handguard to be a little longer. I've scoured the web with no luck, and hoping that all the workbench experts here on the forum can help out. Ron
  12. Yeah, I thought about doctoring the handguard too. But the vent slots of the T-style handguard run almost all of the way out to the end of it. It would have to be Butchered (modified) on the end that mates up to the reciever. And this style has the threaded lockring that attaches it the reciever. I'll try to post some pics of the build later on today.
  13. Alright guys. Got a little issue. So I'm in the process of building an AR-10b SBR. I'm using a Noveske 12.5" barrel on a Armalite A4 upper. I'm trying to go for that MK18 look..........where just the muzzle device sticks out of the end of the handguard. The problem is, I need to use a AAC QD muzzle device so that I can use my suppressor on it. I tried using the Armalite AR-10 "T" style of handguard, but it's just a little too long. Meaning.....I could screw the can on, but I'd never be able to hit the release to get it back off. Looking for suggestions here fella's. By the way.......who doesn't think that a 12" AR10 with a can on it wouldn't be bad-ass? Talk about storming the castle. HA!
  14. Nothing happens fast with any class 3 weapons. And the trust is the best way to go. I did mine all through email and phone conversations. And, by the way, here in MD we can own any class 3 stuff that we want. I've got cans (rifle and pistol) and SBR's........all you gotta do is pay.......and wait.
  15. A big hello from Maryland.
  16. Hopefully sitting in peace and quiet. I'm one of those guys that can actually enjoy being alone...........with a full fridge of beer. And if family comes around..........you definitely need the beer. HA!
  17. I'd roll with either an Armalite SuperSASS like imschur suggested, a LWRC Reaper or a POF (as edge suggested). I've got the SASS, and my son has the Reaper. Both are outstanding rifles, running straight or with suppressors. Highly accurate and just outright fun to shoot (as if any of them aren't). I've got a POF on order (for a loooooong time), so that says what I think about thier quality. Good to see that you're not flinching at some of the prices that come with the larger AR platform. Alot to choose from......but as always, unless you stumble across a hell of a deal, you get what you pay for.
  18. Yep.....I with you guys. I know all about the pain opf waiting. Ordered a 12.5" POF 308 at the end of last December. Still hasn't even come in yet......and still get to look forward to the ATF paper trail side of the waiting process. Gotta love it....right?
  19. I definitely approve. I like the Troy rail. I used that one on a carbine build last year. Nice stuff.
  20. Nothing but Hogue's on all of my AR's. In my opinion (for what that's worth) the most comfortable grip out there. And for 20 bucks, you can't beat em. But, then again, it always comes down to personal preference.
  21. Try this outfit. I bought a BCG for one of my builds. And they show them as in stock. https://delta3tactical.com/store/categories/AR%252d10%7B47%7DM14-%252d-.308-Cal.-Products-and-Parts/AR%252d10/AR10-Upper-Receiver-Parts/
  22. AAC all the way. Outstanding suppressors. And I really like the 51t muzzle break for quick detach.

    POF 308 PICTURES

I would like to keep the $ down a bit. I didn't think that's possible with POF. Ha!
  24. 12.5" ain't bad....hell....how could you go wrong? I've got the DSA 11" FAL OSW(waiting on the ATF), the POF 12" PDW (on order..waiting to come in), and I just ordered the Noveske Leonidas barrel (plan to build my own upper with it). It's a sickness. I'm kinda going thru an SBR craze right now. And hey....what else is better to storm the castle with? HA! Especially when those shorties have suppressors on them. Silence is golden. Less is more. Now, pesonally I like the Noveske stuff cause it's built to the Armalite specs. Sheesh....I can't help it.....I'm kind of an Armalite guy. Once again....it's a sickness.

    POF USA Question
