  1. No, it does not come with a wrench (I used a pipe wrench with a cloth around the barrel nut, blasphemy!!! ). I bought that AP 16" barrel for my last build. Fits perfectly.
  2. I would love to have one of those. It comes with the milling, laser engraving and 3D printing heads at that price, but I can get my mill retrofitted for far less than that.
  3. The crazy aunt you keep in the back room.
  4. I wasn't quite sure where to post this, but this seemed like as good a place as any. Figure this can get folks into doing not just their 80% receivers, but anything else as well. I may look into getting one of these, or something like them just for the fun of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6g9eTP5H1Q
  5. Hey, this was an invite to post pics your families. ARs, M14s, M1s, all of 'em.
  6. Here's my newest "family" of rifles. They're fun! These 308ARs are worse than "Garanditis".
  7. Finished. This one is very special for me. I hope to get it out this weekend but as usual, severe weather is expected. We will see. In the meantime, I'm just going to enjoy looking at it.
  8. Okay, "mystery" solved. And a BIG shout out to Todd at SLR Rifleworks. I called to ask about the problems I had timing my new mini comp with the included crush washer. Without hesitation, he sent me three new washers. This was Tuesday, they arrived today! First glance told the whole story. I measured my original one, 0.102" thick. The three Todd sent were 0.151", 0.155" and 0.159", and the taper was visible even to my eyes. The original crush washer was defective. Okay, TNArms is done.
  9. I just found the old format easier to read and browse thru.
  10. I recently received a muzzle device that came with a crush washer. That crush washer had no discernible taper side. Is it possible there's been a run of bad crush washers?
  11. I've been very pleased with my Griffin Armament Tac Compensator, which is similar to this SLR mini comp. Some minor concussive blast, but nothing bad. I've tried the GA at several ranges, and the RO all said it was just fine. No problem with the offset shooters either. It makes a good range neighbor. Well made compensators are NOT like brakes, which are loud and obnoxious. I might have gone with another GA Tac Comp, but for some reason GA stopped making them, They have a comp-flash hider combo which looks very effective, but it's bigger and heavier than I want. I asked GA if they had any comps left in storage because I liked it so much, and frankly, they were kind of rude to me, so my business goes elsewhere.
  12. We are okay, thank you. I'm in an area that is relatively high, and drains well. Just 10 minutes north of us though, bad juju. There was a coincidence of strong winds the three days previous which backed up and raised the level of Lake Ponchartrain to our south, simultaneous with heavy rains upstream of our drainage area. When the new storms hit us on Friday, there was no place left for the water to go and we were caught in the middle. Flood was real bad. Fortunately, the waters are receding quickly. Unfortunately, there's a lot of clean up for a lot of folks. Just looked at the second pic of the muzzle. Green cast to the pic makes it look like it came from "The Matrix".
  13. Just waiting for the waters to recede, got the upper barrelled. Went on easily. After I heated the receiver with a paint stripper for a minute the barrel slipped right in. The PlastiX jig is a very nice piece of equipment. Sandwich it between two angle irons bolted to the mill table and it didn't budge. Also, tried on the SLR mini comp. It is a very nice looking piece of equipment. Hope it functions well. Waiting on a gas block and we're ready to go.
  14. Got a little more done. I found the Aeroprecision M5 upper didn't quite fit the TN lower at the take down pin area. I called TN, and they said no problem, it's supposed to be a tight fit. Just sand down the lower's deck a bit. I won't void the warranty. Cool. Got out the 600 grit, but that was too slow. Tried 320, also too slow. Got the 220 grit, ahhh, just right. A little sanding and the take down pin action was almost there. I found some burrs and anodizing build up inside the upper's take down hole. Sanded that with 220 grit, and the take down pin movement is now nice and smooth.
  15. Parts are coming in now (I love getting packages). I decided I'd try the SLR Rifleworks mini compensator. Weighs 2.3 ounces (I'll verify that tonight). Nice looking piece. A shout out to Strongside Tactical in CO. Ordered it Wednesday, arrived Friday AM. Free shipping.
  16. PM sent.
  17. Stop right there. There's no need to qualify further. There is a key word here when discussing anything in the middle east, moose limbs and POSOTUS... DUPLICITOUS!!!
  18. Dammit, I just bought your regular one two weeks ago! Timing is everything.
  19. Second range session wasn't quite as good as the first. I learned a few things overall. It was a very pleasant, warm, sunny afternoon. Only one other shooter there testing out his AR15 with a brake on it (more on that.) First, I really like the Triad muzzle device. It controlled the muzzle just fine. Not quite as well as the Griffin Armament 308 Compensator on my SI 308AR, but very well indeed. Also, as there were only two shooters, so I asked the range officer to give me his impression of the side blast from the Triad. He listened from both sides of my shooting position. He was impressed. It didn't bother him in the least, said it was less noisy than the centerfire bolt guns typically there. That's a good start, as I actually do want to be a good neighbor at the range. The AR15 guy was about five positions away (~30 feet) and it was LOUD. The three of us discussed the muzzle devices and agreed that while his brake controlled the rifle well, the Triad was more pleasant to be around. This time I brought just one box of my reloads: 168 Sierra BTHP, 39.46 grains TAC, 2.795" OAL, LC 1x fired cases. This is a very accurate load that functions all my M14s and my 20" SI 308AR. I know the load is at the bottom end of the load range. I had a bunch of FTF, a few FTE, short stroked a lot, wouldn't lock back the bolt. Accuracy was very good, but function sucked. It weakly threw the cases out of the rifle, and generally acted under-gassed. I never thought having a mid-length gas system would make that big of a difference. The SI is a rifle length that functioned just fine with these. What are your reloading experiences of mid-length versus rifle-length systems? Oh, yeah. The Mega charging handle sucks. It's small, not easy to grab. I love the white emblem on it, but I'll be changing it out with a Mech Ops one.
  20. Schuyler Arms is having a moving sale. Here are some incredible prices on 308AR barrels. http://www.schuylerarmsco.com/catalog.php?category=108269
  21. DWilson BCG just arrived at desk. The nitride coating is beautiful, flawless and a mile deep.
  22. I thought I'd continue a previous thread here, as the build has progressed past the initial stage and into the actual build stage. The other thread started with the TNArms polymer 308AR lower which is almost finished. Just received the Magpul MOE SL mil-carbine adjustable stock for it along with an AR-Stoner mil extension tube. I ordered a Heavy Buffer CAR-10 buffer with their spring (yeah, I said I didn't want to buy this, but I did). A DWilson nitride BCG, also in the mail. I had been toying with getting an Aero Precision completed upper because I really like their enhanced upper's integral rail mounting system, but I didn't want the birdcage and the non-adjustable gas block that came with it. Luckily, this morning I got an email from Aero saying they were selling just the enhanced 308AR upper with the 12" M-Lok rail for $249! They also had their Ballistic Advantage 16" mid-length CMV barrel for $209! I couldn't pass these up. Looks like I'm building a carbine. Looks like another buying panic is occurring. Aero is out of so many parts right now (gas tubes, BCG, barrels). Midway likewise with lots of parts. Oh well...
  23. Only because there are so many people on this forum who are so willing to help you spend your money. :-)
  24. Congrats on a fine looking build. Mega are beautiful, aren't they?
