@ARTrooper try doing that and see if it works. also I agree with the .243 and hunting a guy I hunted with used one and finally went back to his 30-06 after we got sick of tracking deer miles literally. One his son shot we never did find a hole in it, and it took us 3 hours to find it. Not that I've shot a ton of deer but everyone has dropped or been easy to track all with either a 30-06 or .308. My buddy double lunged a deer once with his 30-06 the blood trail went 600 yards, I don't think there was a drop of blood left in the deer when we found it?!? I like bigger holes in my game never wasted any meat pre-say not as much as not finding a whole animal

I was looking into Carbon hand guards, then I stopped into Midwest industries and found out they're metal guards are about the same weight or a touch lighter. Although carbon fiber is soooo much more sexy.

Well cabelas can't get any worse than it already is, we got a new one 2 years ago in Madison area and they never have anything I looking for. Guys there are famous for saying "we can ship it to the store for free" my reply is usually "you used to ship it to my house for free, problem is I want it/need it now not in 7-10 days".

That's my plan for my next gun, I love my .308 but I miss having a 30-06. As for yours dad's 700 think I'd feel the same, like comparing apples to oranges with remmington of then and now.

I my self would go savage I know he pointed them out to me in the past. I'm done with remmington as they stand right now. Another thing that makes me go savage over remmington is my buddy who works for krieger told me their action is top notch, one of the only manufactures they don't touch when they accurize a rifle
