forget this notion of 1and 1/2 rifles for hunting it makes no sense, the 308 with 168 grain bullets will do it all, but if you still want to chop wood you could have a mag of 180's and a mag of 168 but i assure you having humped one of these rifles up and down serious elk country and having killed many elk and I do many many that the less weight you hump the better now of course all this is just my opinion but I used to shoot a 4570 for a so called elk brush gun till i figured out you don't take shots through brush anyway you wait for a clean shot then it matters not what you shoot them with hit em right behind the shoulder 1/2 way down and you are a happy camper....

anything from southern Idaho is more in line with big city types and we do not get boise stations up here we have a abc affiliate in Lewiston but I don't watch because they just spew out what abc does, North Idaho and southern Idaho are two different worlds...

great choice , 2-7 but i have old eyes need a bit more power both those 2 elk were shot at just a tad over 300 yards both one shot kills barnes 168ttsx simply devastating on game....

Ok get rid of the following the stock, scope,mags,front sight,,hand guard, and get a stock M4 stock, a 4 to 10 scope, 16 power on a hunting gun is way overboard a 3x9 is even better,front sight and gas block combo like a A2 sight or a low profile get a carbon hand guard they weigh 6 oz at most, the rifle in the pictures below weights 8 lbs 8 oz with no ammo I only load 5 rds at a time in a 10 rounder....I hump it all day and it is dead nuts accurate at 450 and that is a long hunting shot...the proof is in the pudding...
