If it is, they have improved their quality over the crap they had a few years ago.

I asked my friend, and he picked up at optics planet. I got it for quite a bit less than this from him, but here is what a new one costs. One dislike about it: Less than 2X and the cross hairs disappear completely, being a first focal plane. 2x on up, and they are fine.If I had bought new, I would add $100 and get the Primary Arms model. http://www.opticsplanet.com/firefield-1st-focal-plane-waterproof-illuminated-1-6x30mm-rifle-scope.html

With all three foam inserts in it is perfect for my high mount with low profile scope rings. It does have removable layers of foam to get to the right height.
  5. Ain't that the truth!

Ended up picking up a 1×6 first focal plane froma friend for the time being. Cheap! Called a Firefield. After seeing the way it shoots, it may be on yhere for a while. This was.my first ten shots at.100 yards. The two flies on the right were adjusting. Hit it about right on.the third shot and.left it there.
  9. Welcome from the North Woods.
  10. I believe that Cichlid is a fish, but I could be wrong. (sorry Ed, I don't know crap about aquarium fish, but I couldn't resist.)

    Big Trouble

An LGS just got some Savage Axis bolt guns in. A digital camo stock, bull barrel, a Bushnell 4x12 scope, chambered in either 6.5 Creedmore, or 308 for $399! With a $50 factory rebate! The only thing saved me is they are right handed only and I am a lefty! Otherwise I would be a 6.5 Creedmore owner.
  14. I mostly fish a small lake out my front door that's 330 miles long by 220 wide.
  15. I am an avid fisherman, involved in organizations on local, state, and national levels, love to fish, but I love to shoot just as much.
  16. Damn, Rifles are fun!
  17. Quite a discussion and research has been done other places. Originally the M118LR used IMR 4895, when Remington Had the contract. When Winchester Corporation took it over they switched to WC750, which did not do well as far as consistency in desert conditions (Iraq). As of 2007, Federal won the contract and switched to RL15 with the above changes to the case and also the primer, as well, using their Gold Medal Match Primer. I believe Federal still has the contract but that it has been superseded by the above Mark 316 Mod 0. I like M118LR, but it is a hot load, and I have some pretty high muzzle velocities on my chronograph, so I keep it in reserve, or to compare to my reloads.
  18. IMR 4064 is used in the M316 Mod ) if you believe Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7.62×51mm_NATO
  19. WC750 was the original M118LR powder, but that was changed at the same time that Federal took over production and manufacture of the M118LR due to problems with temperature variations. Federal also adapted their Gold Metal Match case for use in the M118LR at that time. While not changed in nomenclature, it is essentially a new ammo. I am still working to find the references to RL15. It seems to be a closely held piece of information.
  20. I have seen reports of that other places. I will have to go back and see the sources. Give me a couple of days. I am pretty busy right now.
  21. I am currently using RL15, when Alliant had the government contract, that is what was going into the M118LR, it is my understanding. Similar to Varget.. I have 4064 in some of my 30-06, both 150gr and 165gr..The bad news is that the price of RL15 and every thing else has doubled since Sandy Hook. I paid $70 each for two 5 lb canisters back then before they ran out, when they gave a good bulk discount, now they are $145 each at the store 70 miles away I normally go to. When I run out, which will be a while, I will have to pay the piper. I just got a pound of Varget for $25 . A good part of those 100-150 rounds I shoot a month is any decent M80 I can find. Lately I found a bunch of ZQ-1 Turkish M80 at Wally World for $7.40/20 closeout price. Then I size them and ream out the primer crimp and use those as the basis for my hand loads. Interesting is that as long as it is NATO spec M80, I don't find much chronograph speeds difference between brass manufacturers. Enough maybe to bother a precision distance shooter, but not me. Within 300 yards they are pretty darn close in shot placement, all other things being equal. Now that I have enough brass inventory, I will be shooting less and less surplus stuff. I just ordered a carbide factory crimping die in 308 from Lee, and will be putting a light crimp on all my reloads to protect from bullet shifting in the magazine during shooting. A good $15 investment. I found 40 Federal 308 brass at the range a couple of weeks ago, when I sized them, it took a lot more effort than a 7.62 for whatever reason. I think they might have originally been a hot load fired in a bolt gun, which caused more than normal brass expansion. I also had to take off more brass on the throat then normal when I trimmed them. They all looked in great shape however, no splits or flattened primers and looked to be only once fired.
  22. The amount I shoot, I couldn't afford to unless I handloaded. Plus it is, quite simply more accurate once you match the rifle, bullet, and load. Reloading I can afford to shoot 100 - 150 308 rounds a month. If I had to buy it at 18.00 a box, something would have to give.
  23. Ah, Ok! I just learned to shoot right handed guns left handed.
  24. Try this; I shoot rifles left handed, and pistols right handed, though I can use either hand with them. So, yeah, I'm weird, but you could have asked my wife if that is all you wanted to know.
  25. Had one of those until my son "borrowed it".
