A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. -Robert A. Heinlein
  7. Reminds me of the time I mixed up the dogs thyroid medication with my blood pressure pills. I had an overwhelming urge to lick my balls but I couldn't reach them. Wife just put a cone around my head.

    New from PA

Welcome, and good luck with your project.
  9. In this day and age you can't always tell.
  10. Then I suggest you figure out how to patent a ringless bolt. Might have a money maker.
  11. Welcome Ken, thank you for your service. As a recipient of back surgery (in my case successful) I know a little of what you go through. Can't help with PA. We had our first feral pig report up here two months ago, but no more, guessing the wolves had a pork feast. Too bad, I would like to get in on the pig hunting action.
  12. The Mantra:" every firearm is different, work up to maximum loads" cannot be repeated often enough. I had flattened primers with 42 grs of RE 15. behind 175's. That chart shows i should have started lower. And I should have.
  13. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Very rarely has anything good come to me from selling a gun.
  14. mrmackc coming from you that is flattering sir, I am no engineer, but I am the son of an ordnance engineer who worked on everything from the 30mm Gau 8 to the Bradley Fighting Vehicle to the F-4 Phantom. Some of it must have rubbed off.
  15. I think you hit the nail on the head. There are reasons things are done a certain way, and sacrificial rings save the rest of the system.Friction is both necessary and the enemy and the gas rings allow and compensate for this.
  16. About right. Sticker price on my 2016 Laramie new was $51,900. That is why I jumped on it at $35,000 with 7300 miles. Internet car shopping has really improved the chances of getting a decent deal on what you want. I give myself 6 months or more search time, and allow for 50% false leads. That is vehicles which dealers advertise long after they are sold, then they try to switch you to something else. Look for salesmen's vehicles (that was what my Laramie was) with low mileage, usually loaded to the gills with options, and be flexible on brands. Rams will be a couple of grand cheaper, then GM Trucks, which will be a little cheaper then Ford/Toyotas/Nissan. The differences are not as big as you think. I am getting 19.9mph all around out of my Hemi V-8 with 8 speed auto. That is .2 of a mile less than my buddies 2017 Ford Turbo V-6 with an aluminum body. Rams have one of the best rides with their rear coil spring suspension, but will probably rust out sooner.
  17. Sold my 2005 outright for $6,000, financed $15,000 FOR 1.8%, added $14,000 cash I had, done.
  18. My 2016.Got with 7300 miles on it for $16,000 off new. Laramie limited, all leather Alpine sound system with subwoofer. Internet hotspot loaded. Love it.
  19. That' .5 " longer than my Officer size .45acp which is my current CC. I did replace the sights with 3 dot adjustable. An intriguing firearm no doubt.
  20. Put this under "Classic" My first 4x4 brand new off the show room floor in 1975. An International Harvester Scout II. Started rusting 5 minutes after I bought it, but what a tank! Could pull just about anything out of a ditch. And out hill climb any jeep I ever ran across. Last I heard of it was in 202, some guy in Mendacino California was still driving what was left of it that wasn't rusted out.
  21. A 4x4 truck or ATV really doesn't ascend to the pinnacle of off roading until it reaches the point where you don't particularly care what it looks like because you know your going to hit some poop. I had an old 99 Ford F-150 that escaped swamps and crap all over northern Wisconsin. It was rusting out so I never knew until I got home how many pieces of mufflers, skid plates, and other , more essential pieces of equipment i had left strewn throughout the woods. My son still regrets my unloading that truck five years ago, and it is still running around town. I replaced it with a 2005 Ram 1500 quad cab that went through the same rust and dent filled history, with lots of deer season blood crusted on the bed liner. Now I have a 2016 Ram Laramie Limited with leather seats and Alpine sound system, so it will be a few years before that reaches true off road status. For now it's a boat puller and road trip vehicle. I have had the same ATV since 2002, a Honda Foreman which except for replacing tires, and ignition, and two deformed wheels from hitting rocks, is still running strong. As a matter of fact it also serves to plow my driveway in winter. My son calls it the AK 47 of ATV,s as his friends high powered fancy stuff would always break down or get stuck, and he would have to pull them out or tow them home, as his would be still running.
  22. Rereading this thread, makes me realize how little I knew back then, and a renewed appreciation for the knowledge of the regulars on this forum. Damn! opened up a hornets nest back then! Without really trying! NJensen and Stain Train both shared a lot of good knowledge.
  23. What a great pistol if you wanted to CC' a 45 acp!
