  1. OK, I can see how the stiffer spring would take the 'sting' out of heavier rounds. But, just like putting a Slash heavy buffer in your .308, you just gotta wonder why they don't do this at the factory if it makes the weapon shoot better.
  2. Used military cartridge brass once again being destroyed--robbing shooters, taxpayers - Examiner - March 26, 2010 http://www.examiner.com/article/used-military-cartridge-brass-once-again-being-destroyed-robbing-shooters-taxpayers Fort Drum brass destruction threatens reloading supply and more - Examiner - January 25, 2013 http://www.examiner.com/article/fort-drum-brass-destruction-threatens-reloading-supply-and-more
  3. Did you have a barbecue afterwards?
  4. Hm. Gotta wonder. You suppose that cop doesn't like media? Like most of 'em don't?
  5. While considering rear sights -- if you like a notched rear leaf -- consider this item. It's the only dedicated notched rear leaf sight that's adjustable for elevation and windage that I've been able to find anywhere. Guldang pricey though. And I had to find a machinist to make me a replacement rear leaf with a smaller notch. The original was ridiculously huge, at something like 0.12" and my custom notch is 0.06". Should have gone 0.055". Hm. So maybe I'm not recommending it all that much. But still. There's lots of rear sight options out there if you like peepers. If you don't like aperture sights, your options are limited. Edit: Think of how many pistols out there come with peep/aperture sights, and wonder why there aren't any. It's for a good reason.
  6. There would be a major backlash if the news announcer said, "And now, to give the Liberals equal time, please pay attention to this." Everyone knows you can get all the Liberal crap you can stomach via ABC, NBC and CBS. Or CNN but they could be bankrupt soon. Edit: I should have mentioned Al Jazeera news. That's some dangerous left-wing subversive schit there.
  7. Welcome to the Forum, RadioGuy. These are the best, nicest, most helpful and hospitable folks I've ever discovered in a discussion group. You'll wind up with some very good advice, and probably a DPMS Gen II .308 as well. Eventually. Beware the Armaliters, though they mean well. People here do expect feedback. It has something to do with the 'buy everything' approach so recently mentioned by Microgunner. ^-^
  8. OK thanks, now I can sleep tonight. Guns are only supposed to be dangerous when you want them to be dangerous.
  9. Hmmm... so with standard factory rounds, there's no point to a stiffer spring? Edit: P.S. I've shot +P and +P+ from my 9mm and all I could think of was how it was beating the crap out of my really nice pistol. It really slammed the slide and... well, slammed up my arm and it was d*mned unpleasant. So when I say standard factory rounds, that means, no +P etc. If this was my pistol I was shopping for, etc., I'd go with standard-velocity JHP. Like someone else said here, 9mm is "smooth" to shoot, and that's what I would want to expect. Maybe that's asking too much. Some guys enjoy recoil, and me, I like something that lets me feel like the pistol is an extension of my hand, and not something that wants to jump away or knock my on my ass.
  10. If this is a real issue I would have reconsidered my decision to get my DPMS LR-308T. When I swap mags on my pistol I expect it to strip a round and seat it when I press the slide release, and I'm used to that being reliable. Now I'm really bumming.
  11. I have to wonder if a heavy buffer would make it safer to let the bolt fly forward to seat the round. Letting it fly is something you'd do between magazines when the BCG locks back on the empty mag, right? The option -- pushing the bolt release while holding back on the charging handle -- would seem to be pretty awkward. Unless there's another way, or I'm not understanding this right.
  12. I had two of these at one point: I really miss them. Not very powerful, but I've never had a car with better handling, or as good in the snow. They're also the best-looking cars I've ever had. Edit: BTW that's a Saab Sonett.
  13. He's looking at a unit like this at Rock Island Armory. When trying to reduce recoil, do you get a stiffer spring, or a milder spring? It looks like different springs are available, but I don't see how a stiffer spring would reduce recoil.
  14. Smuggling out the ammo that the Army is scheduled to destroy would be nearly like being able to print your own money. Once the Army has that ammo taken off the books they won't be looking for it.
  15. There are dangerous trends everywhere. FEC chair warns that conservative media like Drudge Report and Sean Hannity face regulation --- like PACs - Washington Examiner - May 7, 2014 http://washingtonexaminer.com/fec-chair-warns-conservative-media-drudge-hannity-face-regulation-like-pacs/article/2548163 "Government officials, reacting to the growing voice of conservative news outlets, especially on the internet, are angling to curtail the media's exemption from federal election laws governing political organizations, a potentially chilling intervention that the chairman of the Federal Election Commission (FEC) is vowing to fight."
  16. That's a good deal. When I want to compare prices, I go to http://gunbot.net/ammo/rifle/308/ You can spend nearly $3.00 per round there, too.
  17. How many guys have the serial numbers of their weapons written down somewhere? I do, but I only did the list very recently. I went for years without listing my guns and in a way I feel I've been kinda lucky and none of 'em got stolen. I don't think the cops will do much about a stolen weapon without having a serial number, and what the Range would do without a serial number is not immediately obvious unless there's some unmistakeable modifications.
  18. You're exactly right. He hunts Minnesota black bears when they are in season, using a 7mm 08. This pistol would be for stopping bears behaving badly whilst camping in Minnesota. I'm not familiar with Mikerized ammo.
  19. day-ummm! Good detective work!
  20. I've looked at the video... this guy is "making the news" like this in order to sell a book... Ammunition Shortage Conspiracy Theories Gain Support with Bizarre Federal Government Ammo Purchases - WMBB TV - May 02, 2014 http://www.wmbb.com/story/25416558/ammunition-shortage-conspiracy-theories-gain-support-with-bizarre-federal-government-ammo-purchases A Recent news story regarding the U.S. Army’s plan to destroy over $1 billion worth of ammunition is proof that the federal government has been buying more ammo than it actually needs, claimed Jacobs. “A recent story in the USA Today revealed that the Pentagon plans to destroy perfectly good ammunition worth in excess of a billion dollars,” said Jacobs. “This unbelievable waste of taxpayer dollars is part of this plan to keep ammo out of consumer markets in my opinion.” Jacobs has released a video presentation on his website that provides more details to support his theories. The website address is http://ammoindependence.com/pr1-video.
  21. How's the concussion with that JP Recoil Eliminator on the muzzle?
  22. Dude, many thanks. You're one of the reasons I'm glad to be a member here. Now if you could make DMPS hurry up on my order for a new lo-profile upper receiver....
  23. In my experience, people who worry about things like this, to the point of wondering if they should be parents, should have at least a dozen kids. The big problem is parents not taking parenting seriously. People who don't take parenting seriously include those who like Hillary Clinton for saying "It takes a village to raise a child." Well, that's exactly what the welfare segment of society most want -- the village being responsible for the child. The statists and the collectivists. Well, Hell, let's be honest, the communists. They didn't go away just because the USSR collapsed. The Fall of the Berlin Wall just meant they could freely spread like cancer. People who think "the village" is at fault for the terrible things the children do with weapons are the usual suspects, and maybe some others. People who take parenting seriously are an important resource for the entire USA.
  24. Friends, When my new low-profile receiver arrives for my DPMS LR-308T, I'm going to have the local gunsmith do the organ transplant procedure. But I want to be a step ahead of things. First off, it appears that the railed gas block has to come off, and then the free-float heat shield, and then the gas tube, then the barrel nut & barrel. Is the railed gas block pinned on? It's hard to tell, although, it feels like a 1/8 inch Allen wrench fits it. But an Allen wrench can feel like it fits a lot of things that aren't meant to fit an Allen wrench. Second, and this is plain weird, when I was trying Allen wrenches on the gas block, I noticed that there's a hole underneath its Picatinny rail, and I can see daylight on the other side. The hole is about 0.050", left-to-right, crossways at right angles to the rail on the block, and about a half inch below the rail. My 5/32 Allen wrench is too big for it, though, but I gotta wonder, does this mean DPMS gave me an adjustable gas block, or does it mean something else? I can't see them drilling a hole where they don't need one. Thanks!
  25. I hadn't thought of a bolt being a maintenance item. I can see the rings getting sloppy, but the bolt face? I don't see a lot of friction happening there, although I can see it deforming from repeated -- is this the right word -- peening? Repeated blows to a steel part will deform it over time.
