  1. +1 for the Rem 700.... but would rather pick up a 300wm (or 300rum) instead of 308.
  2. Ordered the barrel (14.5" - pistol) & remaining upper parts today. 300blk ...soon!
  3. Depending on how much eye relief and your cheek position, it's usually over or in front of the rear sight. The Troys are pretty small it's likely to go in front of the troy.
  4. I just find a small/thin metal washer and then sand/grind it down thinner... as thin as I need it. I'll take some pics when I get a chance. :)
  5. Hehehe... I'm building beater #2.5. Yes, it's going to be a piece of crap but it's my piece of crap... until someone offers to buy it. <lmao>
  6. More greetings from AZ!
  7. It's difficult to find 16" with pistol gas... haven't had luck finding any. Maybe I should just suck it up and go with the de-facto standard.
  8. Thanks. I got a bunch of Bushnell TRS25's (leftover from trading rifles back and forth) that I'd gladly part with, and obviously, I'm collecting bits for my 300 BLK build. PM me and let me know what you got if you have bits lying around or if you're interested in trading. :D
  9. ....and I thought the crazy bicycle guys were the only weight weenies around.... :D :D :D
  10. Don't know but I have so many that I let the kids borrow one of my TRS25 red dots to put on his nerf gun. Yes, he got it to fit on the rail somehow. LOL
  11. Seen the Red X in person at the LGS. Being overly familiar with CNC machining work, I found the workmanship to be on the sloppy side. The edges of the flutes were a little sharp and showed some ragged burring. Not sure if it's a badly-made fluke but I wasn't impressed.
  12. That's how my lee is set up. The case holder is in the drill press and the cases fit in pointing down. Length - I've not had any problems but you can shim the Lee case gauge length pin as it wears down by putting the shim at the base where it threads in - or simply get a new case length gauge since they are pretty cheap.
  13. SWEET!
  14. Gotta decide soon I suppose. LOL Option 1 - $265 (shipping included) 300AAC fluted 16" barrel from HM Defense, carbine gas, 0.120" gas port size, 32 oz Option 2 - $250 300AAC lightweight 16" SS barrel from Wilson Combat, carbine gas, ?? gas port size, 29 oz Option 3 - $190ish (shipping included) 300AAC "multi role" 16" barrel from CMMG, carbine gas, ?? gas port size Option 4 - $170 300AAC 14.5" barrel from MAS Defense, pistol gas, ?? gas port size Option 5 - $150 300 AAC 16" barrel from "OST Gear" - unmarked USA-made oem barrel, carbine gas, 0.101" gas port size.
  15. Leupold QRW rings (QD). These re-mount to within 1/2MOA. I've found no discernable difference in my zeroing after removing/re-attachment. The ring heights are almost identical to the Warne Maxima rings.
  16. If you don't have any sights blocking it, mount it as low to the upper as possible to get the best accuracy, and a solid cheek weld. I have the MBUS pro on mine and the flip ups don't affect the view. Don't worry about co-witnessing since you're NOT using a scope with unity magnification (i.e. 1x power), since the front sight will be blurred out at 3x or more and obscure your vision when flipped up. When flipped down, you shouldn't even notice anything blocking the view in the scope. Tech details show the objective bell is 48.5mm (1.91") on your scope and the tube is 25.4mm (1"). This works out to be 11.6mm (0.457") radial difference (this is 48.5/2 - 25.4/2). Assuming you have a continuous rail you should look for rings with an absolute height (top of rail to very bottom of ring) of at least 0.457" - closest would be 1/2", If you're looking at centerline height, this will be 0.957" (closest = 1" centerline height). The best (lowest, accuracy) fit would be Warne Maxima/Maxima QD rings in High (0.525" absolute) Leupold PRW or QRW rings in High in High (1" centerline) Most AR one-piece mounts will give a higher mounting, usually around 1.25"-1.5" centerline.
  17. I recommend you check out the Burris 1-4x28 scope. Great ILLUMINATED FFP scope for under $300 that works great for CQB and mid-range use. I like the friction-lock Magpuls on my adjustable stock. I prefer going with an ACS just because I can stash tools etc in it. If you can get an MOE+ grip, that's a good value for a nice grip. For longer range work I got the PRS on my 308.
  18. Thanks for the data. Any idea on the size of the gas port hole on the barrel? I guess the way to go for my non-SBR 300blk is likely going to be 14.5"-16" (14.5"+muzzle device of course) with carbine gas system where the gas port is 0.120" or larger, with 0.125" being the max since that's the gas tube diameter.
  19. Thanks for the heads up. Ordered one for the 30BLK upper build.
  20. Bah, LOL. I'm looking at some semi-scientific studies of 300BBLK builds and the data seems to point to 16"+pistol gas for the best compromise. Gas port sizes are literally the same to fire subs or supers, with or w/o cans.
  21. Even with subs?
  22. Not really a Nissan guy, much less a van guy - next door neighbor is manager at Nissan dealership and gets us insane discounts. ....rather be driving an M3 again though. (hmm... maybe I can fit the entire reloading setup in the van and take it to the range.... :)) :)) :)) )
  23. The family people mover was delivered yesterday. Wife gets what she wants - I think it means I have a pass to build another rifle.
  24. So, it's coming down to barrel selection. From what I'm reading, it sounds like going pistol-length gas system is better/more flexible/less problemmatic than carbine length. The catch now is finding a 16" 300BLK barrel with a pistol gas system is almost impossible (well, I have yet to find one). The closest match is a 14.5" barrel with piston-length system and pinning on a compensator without getting in trouble with the ATF. I'm planning on shooting suppressed eventually... The good news - picked up a cheqpie upper when I stumbled into an LGS earlier today. $65 for a cosmetic (finish) blem, bare BAFE-forged upper (square logo). Now I can proceed with building the upper. Wife can't complain. Bought a bus today for her. LOL
  25. Big fan of the FDE/desert look. How is the cerakoted plastic doing? Wonder how durable it is on plastic. I'm considering the same for I miss the look of the made-over
