  1. This group was shot at 100yards with my PWS Piston setup. It used to be a 300blk mk116 but I had Randall @ ar15barrels swap it over to a 14.7in centurion 556 barrel. Aimpoint pro for the optic. I was aiming left of my paper target intentionally on the cardboard and was just keeping the dot inline beside the bullseye as best I could. This was the result. 55gr bullet. It does even better w the 62gr federal fusion stuff. To me this shows what a piston gun is capable of. I bet it will do better with magnified optics and if all goes well it will soon have just that, right after I can crap out a golden egg and pay for a USO 1-8x red dot for my 308. Edit: not sure why the picture flipped but the group is to the left of the target. Target was a 25yard NRA pistol target.
  2. Personally I would purchase a Dan Wesson over a Kimber if it was my money. Better quality parts used, no goofy safeties, better attention to detail on fitting. I think you'll be a whole lot happier in the long run going that route.
  3. Sploosh!!! God do I ever miss being down in Baja.
  4. He'd be screwed if I tried to practice my world famous dick shot technique.
  5. I use these with some wood stakes shoved down in them. I spaced mine so that the cardboard head and torso targets staple perfectly to the stakes. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JC4-K-h80JU
  6. Wow man, that looks absolutely horrible to have to deal with. I've got back issues of my own but they fall far short of that. I can't even imagine. Best of luck to you in your recovery. Ultram is the only thing they could give me that I wasn't afraid to go to work on. It took just enough of the edge off without any loopy feeling. I would never want to be on it long term though. I really hope you can find a good solution.
  7. I know a whole mess of people in different trades. I do home security systems and used to do high end home theater/automation. I know lots of theater, electrical, framers, dry wallets etc. plumbers though... I don't hang around that sort of crowd. My momma always warned me about those types... Lol. Actually, all the plumbers I knew just moved away from az. Let me know what you're looking for and I'll get you a mess of phone numbers.
  8. After owning a walther p22 I can honestly say, without any doubt in my mind, that I would sooner take a deuce in my hand and fling it at an attacker than bet my life on that pos either A. Functioning properly when truly needed, and B. It actually hitting anything vital if I pointed it at center mass at 4 feet and pulled the trigger. Based off the one I own at 4 ft I'd hit a left little toe. Ok, not that bad but close enough :)That and the fact they like to bust up their own slides into several pieces isn't too comforting. Mine simply will not run properly with any ammo for more than 10-15 shots in a row. It lives in my safe as a failure training tool and to occupy people I take shooting that can't handle anything bigger. I know plenty of people who carry a 22 or 22 mag for ccw. It isn't optimum, but its better than nothing.
  9. Mine is a Mod 0, no adjustable gas. I got mine right before they announced the Mod 1 version. :(
  10. "It's a dry heat" went out the window this year. We've been getting a bunch of great rain, at least around me in the SE valley. I woke up to my dog barking and went to see what was up thinking it was the lightning, but she had her head out the dog door and was barking at the water on the patio. It was 1/2in away from coming over the footing. I ended up having to push broom it off the patio and put a bunch of potting soil bags in the way of the flow. I then used all the puddles and running water on the streets this morning as a free way to wash the mud off my truck. It's amazing how much standing water this is around town. The retention basin/park near me is completely full and its probably 15ft below street level and a couple of acres in size. Full to the brim.
  11. I've found that most pistons seem to have a faster feeling, snappier recoil cycle than DI guns, except for the pws system. It is a very soft cycling setup and I personally prefer it over all other systems. I cleaned my 556 pws gun out yesterday after almost 2000 rds including a ton of Russian garbage and my lower was basically spotless. Just a few little bits of dirt on the back shelf was all. Wiped of the carrier and put it back together. Very easy.
  12. That's a nice little pistol rig. I was originally planning to SBR one of my lowers but with how nice the sig brace works with the phase 5 hex tubes I've decided to go pistol on it. Less headache and less .gov in my life.
  13. Well, I really like how the rifle shoots with the heavier buffer in it but I really wish I had seen the XH that wasn't anti tilt. I'm really not liking having to get a tool out to separate my upper/lower. It isn't even as simple as pulling both pins to separate it, I have to pull both pins and then use a thin knife or screwdriver to push the buffer back into the tube and out of the carrier enough for it to come apart. Damn my lack of looking harder before ordering :) whoops. I'll probably be ordering a standard XH carbine buffer sometime soon and hanging this one off my safe door as a reminder to pay better attention. It really did make a noticeable difference in the recoil and sight recovery time. A definite improvement over the one the rifle shipped with.
  14. We ended up not going out to 4 peaks and hit Queen valley instead. Got lucky and only 1 other group was setup so we had a decent range spot besides all the trash.
  15. Damn. 88 even makes me feel old and I was born in 81. F'ing time just keeps on slipping. Anyone who happens to be at 4 peaks this morning, if you see the green FJ cruiser w the white top come say hi.
  16. Wow. I would have returned it for a full refund and gone else where. Great parts or not I'd never trust anything built by them with my life after seeing those pictures. My money is definitely better spent in the hands of someone who actually knows what they are doing.
  17. I may consider something like this if I was shooting bench rest type comps, but for anything else it's just extra weight to carry, extra variables to screw up, and extra crap worries floating around in my head where only stillness should be.
  18. So you know when you are looking all over your house for your truck keys or sunglasses and you can't find them anywhere? And then your wife calls you something mildly derogatory and points to the counter right in front of you, where you have looked like 9 times??? That happened ok. :) I know it didn't need the anti tilt, but due to my lack of seeing things directly in front of my face I didn't see the standard XH Carbine buffer as being the same weight. I was thinking the XH was 5.5oz and the anti tilt was 6.5oz. I wanted it as heavy as possible without moving over to a rifle stock. It wasn't until a few days later I opened my freaking eyes and saw the weight was the same. Oh well, no big deal.
  19. As far as flash I didn't notice anything annoying in my sight picture the last time I was out but I was only in the shade and not low/no light. I'll be going out again here soon for a nighttime coyote hunt and am taking that one with me. From watching others shoot it it does have some visible flash but it is directed out of the shooters way and isn't a huge fireball. As far as concussion goes, like any brake it is louder than a flash hider. It isn't as bad as an FSC 556, a Surefire, or an AK74 type. From the shooter standpoint it isn't bad at all. From a team member standpoint? Screw the team, this thing works too damn well to really give a crap. lol. I honestly am fine with shooting beside a lantac. I'm so used to everyones loud brakes I don't really notice it anymore. If concussion is a concern the Ferfrans CQB may be a better option. There are a few videos of the lantac online. From what I have experienced what they show is accurate. I don't feel like the muzzle is pushed down at all, I feel like it just stays in place, good side to side control. It keeps everything level. Now if only lantac would pay me for my glowing praise with a suppressor that mounts to the dragon I'd be super happy.
  20. Lantac Dragon. I thought it was BS, I thought it was more youtube marketing magic, I thought my friend was an idiot for spending that much on a muzzle device. I was soooooo wrong. I shot his SPR build with one on it. That rifle doesn't move. Part of that is rifle length gas perfectly tuned on an 18in, but there is no jump at all. Tried it next on a 16in mid length 556 build. It just flat out keeps the muzzle in place as the videos show. So I bit it and ordered one for my 14.7in 556 build. I swear the faster I pull the trigger the softer it feels. It's definitely enough of an improvement that I am going to order one for my wife's 556 to replace the pws FSC556 currently on it, and will be ordering one for my MK216 at the same time. My only gripe with it is suppressor compatibility. They have hinted at making a qd can for it, but so far all I hear is crickets.
  21. No kidding, I swear we have at least 1 a week out here. Saw a minor one this morning that thankfully had a couple guys on it with extinguishers. I always carry at least 2 extinguishers on me in my vehicles specifically because of it.
  22. You're going to be extremely happy with that mount. Mine has been off 7 times and has returned to zero perfectly every time. I only buy AD mounts now.
  23. Not exactly today but this week has been a non stop bit of awesome so far with the deliveries. 1000rds of 556 Magpul UBR stock for my 556 Geissele G2S triggers for both mine and my wife's 556 rifles Set of thin VZ aliens and new screws for my CBOB Set of thin VZ Elite tactical carry and new screws for my 5in and I'm waiting on my Buffer and spring from Heavybuffers which is in transit now. While not gun related I also had a lava stone show up for my Kamado grill so I can start doing lower temp smokes, breads and pizza outside. It's been an awesome week.
  24. HS Precision is the only other one I have on my list besides CTD and Troy. They can all take some rusted rebar down the throat for all I care. Freedom munitions stayed good on their pricing and busted ass to try and keep up with demand. They are good to go as far as I am concerned from both a customer service and a quality standpoint.
  25. I've got a SD-E trigger in my mk216 now and one of Slash's XH Carbine anti tilt buffers on the way. I'm excited to see how it does with those mods next time I get a chance to go shooting. I've been neglecting it lately since I converted my 300blk to a 556 but I just got some PRVI 168gr to test and a good size can of M80 to play with.
