It's for a gas block rail that's lower (a little more than 1/4" - .270") than the receiver rail - sometimes called "gas block height"

I had the same problem and as I posted in my thread on my adventures with my Odin install : I Drew up a special box end crowsfoot wrench in the "Flow Waterjet software" at work and cut one out of some 1/2" 4340 alloy plate: It's 1-3/8" across the flats and I torqued mine to 75 ft/lbs I also wound up making the aluminum adapter to the correct dimension to properly align the rail on my pre 2009 style "DPMS Type High Profile" upper (details in thread)

Hmmm, I think I spoke too soon, most AR15 uppers have "T" marks from 2 - 12, This rig is showing T16 - looks like it may be a 308, the roll pins retaining the ejection port door pin are something I don't recall seeing anywhere but, the rounds do appear to be 7.62 x 51.

Hard to say for sure but, I'm suspecting this is an AR15 that is firing 7.62 x 39 as well as 5.56 x 45 - that upper just doesn't look like a 308AR <dontknow> Seems to have a odd looking cut around the pivot pin.

Interesting, I think TenRingKing is shooting 7.62 x 39 not 300blk - I'm planning on reloading some 7.62 x 39 with IMR 4198 and 123gr Hornady FMJ Thanks for the heads up on the IMR 4198 load levels - I'll probably start in the mid range & work up <thumbsup>

AR15 or 308?

With the Matrix receiver set you are supposed to be able to build it with all Armalite parts or all DPMS type parts with one exception - the barrel nut has to have an Armalite thread.

Well, turned out ODIN seems to be kinda backed up in production and I really want to get this project wrapped up so, I was able to get a PDF of the blueprint of the adapter for the DPMS high pattern upper. With that I drew the part in Mastercam with the exception of moving the barrel nut threaded hole and gas tube hole up .020" then loaded up one of the Haas CNC Mills at work with the needed tooling and the program I generated and proceeded to cut a few adapters with the needed dimensions: I still have to set up a fixture to properly locate the 6 #10-32 threaded holes to retain the handguard to the adapter (tried to drill/tap them off of centerpunched locations in a rush yesterday and 4 of them had the drill "walk" on me resulting in improperly placed holes seen in the pics but, most importantly the mismatch is resolved! :banana: so, now I can finally get things completed! And, a couple pics of the engraving I did on the Ares 80% lower, I guess you could call it the "unofficial 308AR.com 308AR" While I was at it, I didn't like the idea of using an open ended crowsfoot wrench to torque the barrel nut so, I drew up a nice boxed end crowsfoot wrench in the "FLOW" waterjet program and cut one out of 1/2" 4340 plate

It gets better, the replacement Director is none other than Thomas E Brandon, Appointed Deputy Director in Oct 2011 Prior to that he was Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix Field Division - I seem to remember some shenanigans that they were up to a few years back! More things that make you go Hmmmm!
