  1. There are some things common to the Winchester.243 and the Winchester .308 but after you get away from the cartridge case physical dimensions at the shoulder you are on two different planets. Not much is noticed with a bolt action or the other manually operated breach opening and closure firearm. Now the world of difference starts when you try to equate cloning a D.I. .243 upper with a. .308 upper. Most builders like us get there by trial and error. That works because of experience. I would like to point out some oblivious physical differences, the bore of the.243 is about 62% the volume of the same length .308. With a simular volume cartridge case. This means that the gases generated by the.243 move faster down to the gas port. If you extrapolate that out the gas reaches your gas key at least in 62% less time than a .308. Now how you handle that situation is taken care of by folks like our gas gun gurus. Fortunately if you listen carefully you can work out these problems without using a shitpot full of gathered data on a fancy computer and a lot of applied physics. PAY ATTENTION !
  2. Okay that should put you directly on the retirees performance curve. Lol Most of my measurements at work were electrical or ionization radiation related. Just kidding about the measuring. I have had to remember that a wise old Indian chief once said " White man cuts one foot off bottom of blanket and sews it on top of blanket and thinks he has a longer blanket. Engineers know that to be true, just be sure you cut at a true 90.000 degrees from the long (X) axis."
  3. " With a Name Like Grand Power, this Slovakian Company sounds like it should be a Fan of Saturday Morning cartoons, But its 10mm Offering Begs to Be Taken Seriously "Sounds like some awfully overpriced Kool Aid, to me (JMHO)
  4. Does he just have one of these guys? I bet I could use one as bait for big old stripe bass. And see which one puts the bite on the other.

  6. Okay, thanks,
  7. Bob, when I was your age and freshly retired I measured several times but now I realized I wasted a lot of time measuring.
  8. Lake Wisconsin, right?
  9. I bought my first CZ Clone a Wittness .40 S&W Compac. After I tuned it up The recoil spring was so long the pistol wouldn't go back and lock the slide or chamber a round. It is a nice handleing pistop but I just can't see selling a pistol in that condition, new in the box. Why I like it is it is Single action and double action and you can carry it cocked and locked, or with one in the chamber and hammer down and cock the hammer and fire it Double action. It isn't near the pistol my.45ACP Govt. model 1911 series 70 is, but it does conceal better.
  10. That is one reason that I live on a lake! Don't belong to any fishing organizations anymore. I sold my three boats in 2014, but we have a couple of nice fishing docks.
  11. Yes sir, Mr. Sisco, strange but I can't get the same enthusiasm for my Garcia Ambassadors and Zebcos or Spiderwire even though I love to fish.
  12. I saw in another data source that IM 4064 was used in M316 and M 118, . There also was information on loading 3006 M72 Match with IM 4895 and 4064 which was used as National Match 30 CAL (3006) which I reloaded and used a lot of in my M1 NM rifle from 1965 thru 1980. I once tried working up a 180 grain long range (500-1000) yard load but the MI didn't like that load it was wild and the gas system went crazy. It was a fine long distance round for my Springfield 03A3
  13. You got my attention Sisco. after reloading for 20 years I dropped out for 20 years and I am about to start again, I may just be an old fool but you ain't young forever and I figure I can get around 150 to 160 .308 rounds from a pound of powder, counting 7000 grains per pound. So where do you buy your 4064 powder? Or do you prefer a different powder?
  14. OOOOKKKKKEEEYYY so who is Clint Smith? He moves just a dab faster than I do.......and Thunder Ranch? Someone we oughta know? or just avoid? LOL
  15. I agree Bob and it takes a lot of meticulous measuring to get it right. "Measure twice and cut once." Do they make a panto-graph for a milling machine?
  16. Maybe I will do well enough to buy a reloading kit and some 4064 and some Federal Gold metal primers and HPBT bullets.
  17. I still have that little bit I bought I plan using it in the LR308 in an upcoming long range match since us senior old codgers can use a table and a sandbag rest.
  18. This sounds ELECTRIFYING!!!!
  19. I figure I'm too old to "Bug out or Bug about" so my plan is to hunkerdown, as I'm already living in my bugout place. but I do have a small haversack packed to take to the range or to the woods. A pint of 180 proof grain Everclear will come in handy if you are having a bad day, it will clean your glasses, numb the pain, disinfect a wound, and use to fuel a small fire, or make you forget........
  20. Magnifying glass is Okay except for at night, or being under a canopy of tree leaves, in a cave, under heavy cloud cover, etc.,etc.
  21. Here is a link to all the 7.62x51 NATO Military stuff on WIKI, that I found: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7.62×51mm_NATO
  22. From Wiki: Cartridge, Caliber 7.62mm Special Ball, Long Range, MK 316 MOD 0 (United States): A 175-grain (11.3 g) round specifically designed for long-range sniping consisting of Sierra MatchKing Hollow Point Boat Tail projectiles, Federal Cartridge Company match cartridge cases and Gold Medal Match primers. The Propellant has been verified as IMR 4064 (per NSN 1305-01-567-6944 and Federal Cartridge Company Contract/Order Number N0016408DJN28 and has a charge weight per the specs of 41.745-grain (2.7 g)
  23. Thanks for the fixing thangie Toolindie guy! I got the USGI one. The picture came from Numerich. Like the later GI ones the chamber brush ratchet is black plastic, which tend to break fairly easily. I also have several GI M1 Garand 3006 combo tools they are sturdy all steel chamber brushes but they don't ratchet, I haven't found that to be a problem.
  24. This is an original USGI issued M14 Combination Tool.doc
  25. I use the combo tool issued with the M14, (use the curved big end)
