  1. Yes and the hole in the little torque wrench can be filled with grease or Lubriplate to grease the roller on the bolt.
  2. Oh my goodness, I may require a bigger safe place to store all my ammoinfo, such a traumatic experience! Not a whole hour of suspended cyberspace, I don't think I can stand this schmidt again this month, we haven't even eaten the turkey and punkin pie yet!....... don't tell Bubba, he is so sensitive, he would go spastic!
  3. What was it Janet Reno said? "Not in my Lifetime!"
  4. It sounds like you had a really fun day and good luck finding that brass. I like that load with Reloader 15. I discovered 300 Speer 170 30cal. Bullets I bought in 1979. I had put a price of $5.00 a box on them for a gun show in the 1990's after I quit reloading for my.3006. Guess i'll keep them.
  5. It would seem logical to me that I could buy a new or used AR15 off the shelf, tear it down and use it to set up a mill and a drill press and make a functioning AR15. But why? Just to show that I can?
  6. Just wondering, could any cnc machIne, like saying a high end Smithy 3 in 1 machine have code written and adapted to finish 80%receivers. I have no doubt that a good machinist can use a template and a decent 3 in 1 setup to finish a 80% received, hundreds have already done so.
  7. in the picture above this post of how low the scope is mounted: please notice how close it is to the rear aperture and the stripper clip guide bracket The rings are Weaver Tac 1" Medium, I have a set of Weaver Tac 1" Xtra High (0.520") high which will give me an additional 0.240" . The shaft on the bottom of the scope only has a few thousandths clearance. I wanted to get it low enough that I wouldn't need a thick add on cheek rest, It will still be iffy. I will tighten it down with a torque wrench and boresight it before going to the range. The high Bassett mount would be a half inch higher , but the rings would still be close to the Picatilly teeth. I might just grind a bit off the two teeth next to the shaft.
  8. A picturt of how low the scope is mounted:
  9. After doing some.30CAL thinking a generic "Service Rifle" thread may be beneficial to our members, without being oppressive and objecti Sisco that is a good choice, there is a height difference between the Low Bassett Picatinny mount and the High Picatinny mount. There is also a non-Picatinny mount that puts the rings at an angle to the rifle receiver. Bassett has a web site. I don't have a way to do a link right now since I am using my old Kindle Fire for internet access
  10. JJ right on, many shooters don't realize that the reason is to have a method to check the crude alignment of the scope sight to the travel path of the bullet in order to hit the paper by aligning the variable adjustment of the scope reticle for both safety of the area down range and to save ammo in zeroing the scope. Not to split hairs.
  11. Welcome from an old 30 cal.Garand/M14 shooter and also a new (2014) DPMS LR308 shooter from Central Texas that has worked in Louisiana Gulf Coast. You ought to be able to feel right at home here. These guys are keepers.
  12. No the scope is a Bushnell. On sale for $175.
  13. Thanks for moving the posting
  14. I think that Oboma did the industry a big favor. Many folks have got the itch and need to scratch it because a whole new segment of the population have started enjoying the shooting sports and self defense. You know what happens when someone buys a gun and starts shooting. More guns needs more different forms of firearms, ammo, reloaders , on and on and on. For God's sake you know because we experienced that itch. scratch, scratch, oh that feels so good!
  15. No the stripper clip need not be removed, the Bassett mount has steel rods embedded in shallow groves in the mount and they fit in the horizontal and vertical groves in the receiver, the single screw is tightened to just the right amount of torque with a supplied small wrench that uses the weight of the rifle to torque the screw. The mount is easily removed and reattached and as long as the scope is left mounted to the mount it can be reattached using the special wrench without losing your zero. I am sorry I haven't found the service rifle thread.
  16. I mounted the Bushnell 4x18 308BDC scope number 2 on the M1A NM rifle. I used a Bassett low Pickatinny mount and Weaver TAC 1" Medium rings. I wanted a good low scope mount. This si as low as I could go, I only have .020" clearance below the protruding shaft of the scope and .030 between the rear sight and the scope. I have a Xhigh set of rings that will give me an extra 0.28" clearance. I didn't have the ring screws tightened down all the way for the pictures. I also took a picture of my DPMS LR308 with #1 Bushnell 4x18 308BCD scope with Burris rings
  17. Sisco, Thanks and I have a great deal of respect for the regulars here, yes I don't always agree with their positions, but agreeing is different than respect, have a great weekend. I got my new scope and Bassett mount on the new M1A. Pictures coming soon, I was shooting for a lowest position for the scope.
  18. ThanksReceived my sling for my new M1A NM rifle today also the Bassett Engineering scope mount.
  19. Yes, a 16 inch barrel is ok for a rifle, just long enough to be legally a rifle, or if you need lighter go with a pistol.
  20. Well, Mikedaddyo, I worked several livestock auctions and I thought "giving the animals a nice drink" was an act of careing and kindness. LOL! We would salt down their last meal and they would tank up at the water trough. We didn't have running water hoses.
  21. Have any of you heard of a little Ethernet Texas outfit named after a South American river?they sell stuff and some gun stuff.
  22. Is this the one? Lee Ergo-Prime tool.
