  1. Oh yeah! Warm weather like that in winter is just sick and its wrong!
  2. I got home yesterday afternoon after driving almost 2 hours in a blizzard. !0 new inches of the sick white crap on the driveway so out came the snowblower. Its not done yet either. More on the way the next couple days. A new update on the brass may be a long time coming.
  3. Nope. Things are pretty dead right now with the snow and cold around here.
  4. I just answered my own question by calling Florida fish and game. The hunting regulations that survivalshop sited is for private lands. Each wildlife management area has its own regs and in Citrus hogs are only legal to take during small game season. This info is from the woman at FWC that I spoke with in an attempt to clarify this whole mess. It sounds as if my best bet is to do some investigating on my own and seeing if there may be any landowners that want some pigs to disappear.
  5. That is great to see but at the top of this page http://myfwc.com/hunting/season-dates/ they add to the confusion. 2016-2017 Resident Game and Furbearer Florida Hunting Season Dates You may also download the 2016-17 Season Dates in a printable format. Seasons and dates are not applicable to wildlife management areas and other lands managed by the Commission. So wildlife management areas like Citrus have their own rules?
  6. The Withlacoochee State Forest is 7 miles from where we will be. Anyone out there with info on opportunities there? The brochure from the Citrus Wildlife Management Area is a bit blurry on whether or not hog hunting is allowed that time of year(March 13-17). A phone # for Florida fish and wildlife is provided so clarrification can be had there I hope.
  7. With an upcoming vacation coming in March 2017 to Florida I've been wondering what the pig hunting possibilities are that time of year if any. My wife and I will be staying in the Inverness area the week of March 12 - 18 and travelling a reasonable distance to hunt is expected. I have hunted deer here in Wisconsin for over 25 years and have the choice of 4 AR rifle calibers to use. A .223 Colt M4 (too small I'm thinking), a 16" barrelled 300BLK, a 8" 300 BLK pistol/SBR (NFA headaches understood), a 6.5 Grendel, and a .308. I have a suppressor I can use on the Grendel up through the .308, it currently lives on the SBR. The two major things I have no knowledge of for this idea are the animal and the area. Any help would be appreciated and any offer from a member here to take this yankee out pig hunting would definitely warrant further discussion. Thanks
  8. Its especially sweet since I built the rifle from scratch and handloaded the bullet.

  10. Like this? Oneida county, only legal buck I saw all season. Us cheeseheads need to get together in 2017 at a centrally located range for a shooting day.
  11. Ok ok my wife named all of my rifles and Bertha is my 308AR. This afternoon she had her deer cherry popped. Up until today all I had been seeing was doe after doe with the usual fawn thrown into the mix, but things changed. As I was watching a doe and her button buck fawn mill around the frozen swamp pond about 50 yards away that I hunt near, something caught momma's eye to the north. I followed her gaze and here comes a buck. He has his eyes glued on the doe and he is about 100 yards north of my stand. He walked right in and the doe walked away wanting nothing to do with him. Her fawn just stood there looking at him as he got within a few feet. By this time I had the gun up and the scope on the buck but I was literally looking at the crosshair just above the fawn's head right between his ears. The buck decided to look where momma went and turned behind a tree and I had a brief oh sh&t moment when he disappeared. Luckily he came back from behind the tree a bit farther out than he was before and gave me a clear shot past the fawn. He dropped his head to sniff where the does had been and he never knew what hit him. DRT with a shot to the base of the neck which exited the left front armpit. He isn't huge by any means, but still a nice 8 pointer. Its been a long dry spell for me with the rifle so I'm happy to end it and initiate a new rifle in the process. I had my son in the same stand over opening weekend and his first comment when I told him I got this buck was "you suck". Kids, you gotta love them.

  17. Naaaaa. I'll concentrate on reloading for the ones I have and crazy projects like possibly cutting and reforming cases.
  18. Sorry to burst your bubble but I've had way more than 5 empty 35 Whelen cases in my possession and not the first inkling of desire for a rifle. I'm trying to hold the line. My AR collection started with a Colt M4, then a 16" 300BLK, then an 8" 300BLK. A .308 AR followed and coerced me into adding a 6.5 Grendel. Feeding them is keeping me busy enough and now you think I will need a 35 Whelen? Silly Flyer!
  19. I found about 100-150 of these 30-06 blank spent cases today at the shooting range. Are they any good for anything other than the scrap bucket? They are LC 12 headstamp. My only thought other than scrap was to cut them down to a length where they could be reformed into .308 cases. But then the question becomes is it worth the effort? I have been cutting down .223 cases for 300 Blackout since I started reloading and have the saw to do it, but would a .308 sizing die handle the stress of reforming a case this size. I've reformed .223 into Blackout and 7.62X39 into 6.5 Grendel using a blackout and Grendel sizing die. But again is it worth the effort? Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

  22. "I see I missed out on some more creedmoor brass. Boooo

Maybe we can set up a system that when you get 100 of them ship them to me. After I pay for them of course"

I'm not opposed to doing that but it may take a long time.  This is the first year in the last 4 that I've seen any Creedmoor and the 2 batches amounted to less than 70 pieces total.

I have 20 Creedmoors right now and that may be it for the season.  That few hardly makes shipping worth it unless you see others that you or a buddy might want.  in any case they are here and not on my general listing.

Ya not really worth the shipping on such a small batch.
