This is a .50 cal. CVA Kodiak Magnum muzzleloader built in 2004. It has performed flawlessly for me since buying it brand new. It is capable of handling magnum 150 grain charges but shoots just as well with 100 grains. I have used Powerbelt bullets exclusively and they have proven to be very acccurate in this rifle. The rifle's action opens by pushing the trigger guard down and forward exposing the breech plug. The scope is a Tasco World Class 2-7X32, model WA27X32 built in Japan and has served me well. The power adjustment ring on the scope is worn between the 2X and 4X marks but it in no way affects the function. The pictured sling is included. $150.00 + actual shipping. Buyer needs to inform me if FFL is needed for transfer in their state. None is needed here in WI for muzzleloaders.

Where abouts in WI are you? There are several of us here from all over the state. -

Can do on the 8mm. It might be next year after deer season that I have enough to amount to anything. 2 of them isn't efficient on shipping.

We haven't boned out the meat yet. With these 200 grain Makers I'm only using 8.4gr of IMR 4227 so it can't exactly be high pressure. The trick with subs is to have enough gas pressure to run the action of the rifle but still be quiet. If you have a bolt gun then it isn't an issue.

This has been my first year of subsonic hunting and I thought I would share some info on what I have found. I built my 8" Blackout 2 years ago as a pistol then last year I jumped through all the hoops and SBRd and suppressed it. I shot my first deer with it last fall using a Barnes black tip which performed perfectly. Entry between shoulder and briscuit, exit out the side just in front of the left hindquarter. The deer went 40 yards and piled up. This year I wanted to load up some subs and "bow hunt with the rifle". Over the spring and summer I loaded Hornady 225gr BTHP and 220 gr SMKs and amazingly both shot to the same impact point at 50 yards with their corresponding 4227 powder charges, and the rifle sounds like a BB gun. Both bullets were running in the 970-980fps range touching holes at 50. I had high hopes for the Makers when I finally got them. Being twice the price of the other two bullets I cheaped out and loaded a ladder series of one bullet each for each charge, decreasing charge by .3 of a grain as I went down. This was just to find the charge that would get me into the 970-980fps range that my rifle seems to like. Once I had that I did a proper load ladder and found the charge that fell into that range also had virtually the same impact point and accuracy as the Hornady/SMK loads. Fast forward to yesterday, first day of WI state wide antlerless season. I'm watching a fawn poke around not wanting to shoot bambi when suddenly it looks up, tail goes up, and zoom off it goes. OK I'm now looking for what spooked it off, and here comes a nice doe (a buck would have really pissed me off cuz they are off limits for the 4 day doe season). She walks in, starts sniffing around where the fawn was and stops facing me almost straight on. An almost identical shot to last year except now I have the 200gr Maker loaded up. I aimed between her shoulder and briscuit as before and pulled the trigger. She hunched/jumped at impact and took off straight away from me. I settled down and got out to take a look. No blood where she was standing but there were deep digging footprints in the snow and I knew where she had gone. 5 minutes later after slowly beaming around with the flashlight I saw a silver eye reflection on the ground and it turned out to be her where she had flopped over. She had gone 30 yards before piling up. While field dressing her out I found the reason for no blood. The bullet entered high on her chest wall and it all pooled around her lungs and heart in front of her diaphragm. The entry wound through the skin was .308 size but it must have started mushrooming immediately and blew through a rib leaving a 1 inch diameter entry hole. The bullet passed through her lung, heart, and diaphragm, and her stomach had a nice entry hole in its front so I opened it up and lo and behold found the bullet. It had opened up almost perfectly even at the severe angle it had entered with. I'm not too fond of doe pictures but I am impressed with what the bullet looks like.

Hey unzman we're practically neighbors. I grew up in Wausau and now in Woodruff. How often do you get to the Wausau area? A 308AR with optic is going to run in the 10lb+ range on average. Mine is an 18" lightweight barrel and its about 10 on the head. Its a chunk to carry but I don't go far to my tree stand. One huge benefit to having a neighborhood street 200 yards from state land that I never see another soul hunting on unless its my son. Here is last years buck and the rifle that took him.

Yep, and pistols can be cocked, locked, loaded and uncased in a vehicle. Including AR pistols(its a pistol....duh!). If you don't have a CCW then it has to be visible, otherwise it can be concealed with permit.

Wisconsin loaded! WRONG Quoting WI Deer regulations page 19 "A firearm is considered unloaded if the shell or cartridge is removed from the chamber and any clip, magazine or cylinder that IS ATTACHED (emphasis my own) to the firearm is empty, the cap or primer is removed from a percussion muzzleloader, the flashpan of a flint lock muzzleloader is cleaned of powder or the battery is disconnected and removed from an electronic-ignition system muzzleloader." The regulation was changed years ago to accomodate deer drives. If the chamber is empty and magazine detached, the rifle is not loaded. If a bolt action rifle does not have a detachable mag then the mag must be empty also. An unloaded rifle can be transported in a vehicle without being cased.

Its over......deer season that is. I will be making a major update to my list. As of now the common deer calibers may be spoken for but the handgun sizes, magnums and associated "oddballs" are all fair game. You guys have been great customers with several of you being repeats. I appreciate all of it and I will be posting the complete list here before any of the other forums I am on. It is only fair to give loyal customers and a great bunch of guys first shot. Thanks!

I tried to send a PM but your mailbox must be full "98Z5V cannot receive messages" is what I got. I kind of had a feeling the 45-70 might get your attention seeing as I think I remember you posting about one. Your math is right on but now I need to figure out the cheapest way to get it there. A medium flat rate box is $13.60. I'll see what the rate is if they are wrapped up in a padded envelope. Whats your zip code down there? Thanks

You do realize that you have broken the rules of AR building and have done it backwards! The .223 is supposed to come first then after realizing how fun and relatively easy it is then get the bug to venture into the un-milspec world of 308 ARs. All kidding aside, great job! Next is the .223, then a 300 Blackout, then for chits and giggles a Grendel, then...... you get the idea, they tend to multiply.
-
Just recently got her painted up. I forget its only an 8" barrel under the handguard with the 10" can. She is my sub gun that took a deer last year with a super.
-
How old is the barrel and who made it? I had the exact same thing happen to a 300 Blackout barrel that I was changing the muzzle device on and the general concensus on M4Carbine forum was that it wasn't worth the effort to try and retighten the barrel to the extension. It wasn't torqued correctly in the first place if it came loose and getting it re-torqued and having everything align perfectly is almost impossible. If the gas port was aligned with the old improperly torqued extension, how can it possibly be aligned if you get it torqued properly? I contacted the seller I bought the barrel from, explained what happened, sent them the barrel and extension for them to inspect and they sent me a new barrel. Might be worth a shot before anything alse.
