  1. More fat in a human. Hmm does that mean an even bigger bang when it hits? #thatsgunnahurt
  2. If I do a drop in, I want a single stage. And the Beachin and front sling swivel will be on the way shortly.
  3. I also want to know what went "bang" inside the gel.
  4. I just did the 20 round break in on my LR-308 Oracle with Remington 150FMJ and it ran great. I also shot a few rounds of the Walmart ZQ and I was impressed for the price. Good stuff to stock up on IMHO. I'm looking for a bulk deal on it.
  5. Did the 20 round break in procedure today. Holy crap this ain't no 5.56 pea shooter. It does have some kick to it, unlike my AR-15. What a great gun to shoot. Yeah the break in is a pain in the proverbial behind. It has never taken my that long to shoot 20 rounds in my life. A few things I noted. Very little copper fouling with the first 5 rounds. Darn near nothing after that. I'm serious, more powder residue than anything. I kept looking for copper residue and I was amazed at how little there was. I even had my friend look down the bore and he just looked at me and said "It's clean as a damn whistle.". I know it's was only 20 round but the rifle never missed a beat. And I ran 20w50 Mobil one full synthetic on the bolt carrier group. Who ever came up with that idea, my hat is off to them. Great idea as the oil stays right where you put it. I was only shooting at 50 yards as I only have the red dot on it at this time. After round number 15 the group tightened right up. Even my friend that was with me commented on it. We were changing targets every 5 rounds. It may have been me just getting used to the rifle. The last five were under 1/2" MOA so the rifle is doing what it should. I was shooting Remington 150 grain FMJ. I cleaned the rifle before I left to shoot and man what a pain. I took forever to get the bore clean from the factory test firing. What the heck is DPMS test firing these with? Next up is a 1-4x30 scope, and JP trigger springs. No doubt this thing is one capable shooter. I am really impressed with it. Gawd why did I wait so long to buy one? Now I'm thinking about building a second upper. In what calber I don't know. I do know I'm hooked, and I am in love with the AR308 platform. I'm looking forward to the next mod to the rifle. This thing is an absolute hoot to shoot! Shane
  6. And a friendly wave from the Piedmont area on North Carolina Keith! Sounds like a great build with the parts you listed. You landed in the best dang forum there is for the AR308.
  7. And a warm welcome from North Carolina. I am also a new owner of a LR-308 Oracle. I'm going to do the break in on it tomorrow. This forum is the best there is bar none on the AR308 platform. Straight up no BS bunch of folks on here. Congrats on the purchase of a great weapon. Man you dove into the AR platform in a big way. You went right around that pea shooting 5.56, and jumped right into the big bore club! #thumbsup Now go shoot the piss out of it. LOL
  8. Had to try an emogee from my Windows Phone. Dang it
  9. I guess when they say .308 they mean it.
  10. My Millett Red Dot is over 20 years old. I believe it's a 2 MOA dot. It may even be smaller because on a 25 yard range it pretty much is the same size as a .22 caliber hole. The dot is tiny to say the least. They were bought out by Bushnell IIRC. I used that scope for NRA slow fire matches and it was mounted on a Ruger Mark II bull barrel pistol. Tack driver of a pistol for sure. Until I can afford a 1x4x30 scope it will work fine for out to about 150 yards. I'll find out just how far I can stretch it this weekend. And that butt pad is awesome for the factory DPMS 6 position stock. Dang I love this place!
  11. First off welcome to the mad house! The forward assist will be at the back of the upper on a GII. The LR-308 (there is no GenI) forward assist is right behind the brass deflector. It's actually built into the brass deflector. It has a single ejector pin on the bolt face. I can't comment on the value of a GenII as I just bought a brand new LR-308 Oracle. And for a price that would make most on here jump on it like I did. :-)
  12. Thanks Mr. Mac that will work perfect! And the Amazon pics show it on darn near the same stock as the Oracle. Which part? the butt pad? The red dot? You'll have to excuse me as I'm a confoosed blonde! LOL
  13. That's pretty much the all I want for a scope. I installed my Millet Red Dot on it for now. I do like the Beachin sling. I need a front sling post for the fore end. What butt pad did you go with? And thanks for all the warm welcomes! My new addition.
  14. I'd break bread with him any day of the week!
  15. It actually showed up 4 days early. WOOHOO
  16. Since I have yet to see a completely stock Oracle I figured I would post mine fresh out of the box. Opening a brand new rifle box, is kind of like a birthing event. It sure puts a :) on your face. Millett SP-1 mounted, it didn't add much weight at all. Only thing I now need is a front sling mount and sling and another magazine. Maybe a UTG drop in slim line forend and JP trigger springs down the road. Time to break it in. That .223 really looks small next to the .308 on the Magazine. LOL
  17. That's the number one reason I'm on this forum. The "gotta have Noveske, or your rifle sux, barf15 forum" SUX! I prefer the "island of misfit gun slingers" and day of the week!
  18. Ordered my LR-308 Oracle on December 22. I won't get to my FFL until Jan 4 2016. #bangshead WTF I didn't know they shipped rifles by horse and buggy.
  19. Monroe North Carolina is home for us.
  20. Thanks for the link. I should have known it was Black Hole Weaponry. And their dang barrels have polygonal rifling to boot. My wife is gunna kill me! #bangshead
  21. I understand that if the barrel is marked 7.62 you're good to shoot .308 also. It is confusing for some. And DPMS marking the lower .308 only adds to it. There are quite a few post about it also. I do understand that what the barrel is marked, is what the rifle can shoot. The LR-308 is even speced on the DPMS website as a .308/7.62 rifle. So why not just mark the lower and the barrel, with both calibers, and end the confusion? Then this hit me. Why not make a 7.62 Wylde chamber and end all the confusion? So much to ponder and so little time to act. LOL
  22. I'm not worried, just as confused, as this normal blonde can be. DPMS marks the LR-308 lowers .308. But from what I have read most new barrels are marked 7.62. Reading what Mr. Raley posted if the barrel is marked 7.62 than .308 is fine to shoot in it. From what I am reading this is correct as the proof pressure of the 7.62 far exceed the max pressure of the .308. It's the head space of a .308 chamber where you run into issues firing a 7.62 in a .308 chambered rifle. Am I following today’s lesson OK???
  23. Glad to hear everything worked out for you. I was window shopping on Fultons site tonight and bumped across your thread. I'll wait to order till after the holidaze are over. LOL
  24. Thanks for the Welcome Shepp. I kind of introduced myself in the DPMS forum. I'll post in the Intro forum too. I promise it won't be an epic post like the last one! LOL And no need to thank me for my service, it was an honor to serve this great country of ours. And it was the best damn job I've ever had!
  25. Bear with me as this is going to be an epic post! I'm talking mini novel size post. LOL I was first introduced to the M-16 in 1977 while in the Army. I spent 13 years in the US Army qualifying with what we fondly referred to as the "pea shooter". Fast forward what seems like a gazillion years, and two years ago I snagged a brand new Bushmaster Carbon-15. Brand new was not exactly correct at the time of purchase. I knew it wasn't, the seller said it was un-fired, I just kept my mouth shut. Why you ask? Because sitting in the factory box that came with the Carbon-15 was a no name billet upper. I even asked him what the spare upper was all about. His answer was that it was a factory spare. Uh OK, for 400 bucks I kept my mouth shut, purchased the rifle, and exited staged left quick like. What an awesome little home defence rifle. The dang thing weighs in at 5 pounds with a full magazine. I wasn't worried about the durability of it, as I sure as heck wasn't going to be jumping into foxholes with it any time soon. And it shoots fantastic. It's a damn feather weight to say the least. And was perfect for my home defence needs. I sold the stripped billet upper on Armslist and left it in the factory configuration. I ended up having less than 300 bucks in that AR. I certainly didn't get hurt on that deal and gave it to my brother last year for a Christmas present. That little Carbon-15 sparked my love affair for the Casey Stoner design all over again. I was a tanker in the Army and shooting the M240 7.62X51 coax machine gun kind of spoiled me as far as the 5.56 pea shooter round. Shoot an M-16 with iron sights then go shoot an M-60 and you'll know where I'm coming from. It's the shock and awe factor of the 308, and to me, it's much more versatile than an AR-15. The DPMS LR-308 Oracle I bought is just about the same size (length) as the Carbon-15. That's the only thing the two have in common. I certainly wouldn't want to go face to face with a bear and an AR-15. The AR-10 platform evens the playing field in my eyes. Yeah it maybe a little heavier than a my Carbon-15, and by the specs the 16" HBAR Oracle, only weighs 3.5 pounds more. The .308 has better bullet ballistics all the way around. To me the knock down power far out weighs the cost difference in ammo. And I'm not one to shoot 500 rounds out of a rifle every month either. Plus an AR-15 at the range is about as common as the common cold. Every one seems to have one. For what I paid for my Oracle, I couldn't build a decent AR-15, it was a damn deal to say the least. I have always liked the AR-10 platform I just couldn't afford a real AR-10. That was until I found my LR-308. When I found it I thought, "Crap its a DPMS", that changed once I started looking into the LR-308 reviews. DPMS didn't have the best reputation with their AR-15s at one time. It's like an entirely different company makes the LR-308. The reviews are fantastic. The 16" barrel made me kind of nervous being it's .308, until I watched youtube videos with guys hitting a gong, at 600-1000 yards with one. These things can be tack drivers right out of the box. And since the Oracle is the "plain Jane" version, I have the money to mod it to my needs and liking. From what I researched on line, the LR\SR AR-10 version, has more of a following for after market goodies to boot. More "win, win" in my book. I don't really plan on modding it to death either. I have a Millet Red Dot I'm going to use for now. It will work just fine for home defence and out to around 150 yards. I just haven't made up my mind on optics yet. I'll polish the trigger group to smooth it out and install a lighter trigger spring for now. I don't mind the Glacier hand guard, but a free floating one is on my shopping list. I want to keep it as light as possible. That's one of the reasons I snagged the little 16" Oracle. It may not be a sniper rifle, but for an all around rifle, it sure fits the bill nicely. And much more so than an AR-15 in my mind. It will be delivered to my FFL on Monday. It's the first time in my life, that Monday, can't get here fast enough! :) And thanks for reading my mini novel!
