  1. Welcome back! I've seen this thread pop up a time or two, but never checked it out until today. I'm excited to see your recent developments. I stumbled across a used (but never fired) AAC-SD on Armslist yesterday, and I'm now contemplating an AAC-SD build of my own -- MagPul Hunter 700, AICS mag conversion, Sig SRD762QD brake, and a Timney 533 2-stage trigger, for starters...
  2. I haven't had it out to the range yet, but I'm hoping to get out there in the next couple of weeks. There's a 1,000+ yard rifle range about 10 minutes from my house that just opened up a couple of months ago. I've got a buddy who knows the owner and wants to stretch my .308 out a bit...
  3. I haven't had any issues on my computer (Firefox) or iPhone (Firefox).
  4. Got the scope mounted up last month, and still haven't had a chance to get to the range. Maybe sometime in September... Between work, family, illnesses (baby's been in day care for 3 months and has already had salmonella and hand foot & mouth...), and life in general, it's been hard to find any time. Anyhow... Here is a pic I took out on the back patio today: I ended up mounting the scope with Warne medium rings. And yes, I know that the front edge of the front ring is hanging over the edge (but it's in the forward-most slot). And that it's within a couple thousandths of touching the turret. But I have yet to find a cantilever mount or rail spacer that doesn't add at least 1/2" of height. I guess the real solution is to build a DPMS Low upper... With a 16" rifle gas barrel... That'll fix my scope mounting "issues".
  5. Welcome aboard! Great lookin' build. I'm down in Chickasha -- it's good to see another Okie around here... If you're interested in pigs, I've got some good leads on places down around Rush Springs and Elmore City.
  6. The mailman had lots of goodies for me today, including both sets of Warne rings. But that's not the important part...
  7. iScope: http://iscope.com/iscope-iphone/ Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Iscope-Iphone-Black-Is9100/dp/B00WBE8GIG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1500499455&sr=8-3&keywords=iscope+iphone+6 The other place -- which shall remain nameless -- is the popular online auction site which, if memory serves, we are prohibited from posting links to...
  8. I've found the iScope on Amazon and a popular online auction site for right around $60, with free shipping. Seems to me to be a better option, even though it's not as universal as the Carson Hookupz. I like the fact that the iScope completely covers the ocular bell, so the only light the camera gets is through the scope. Having said all that, I still don't know just how clearly an iPhone will show the reticle (which, honestly, is the biggest thing that drew me to the HOG scope...). I tried focusing my phone on some small print at about 2-3" from the lens yesterday (having a Benchmade engraved for our local chief of police, trying to text my wife samples), and I couldn't get more than a fuzzy "idea" type picture. But that could be due to not holding the camera still enough...
  9. Maybe this is an excuse to buy one of those iScope adapters (which, honestly, I've been looking for for awhile, although I think they're gimmicky...). I mean, what better way to show the reticle and the clarity of the glass than to mount an iPhone to the scope? Lol!
  10. Back to "The Rule" for a minute... Once the rule is invoked and the sentence meted out, what are the Court's expectations, aside from a "full review?" Groups? "The Box Test?" An unboxing video? Something else I've not even heard or thought of? Lol!
  11. Well, it's only been a year since I started this thread... SWFA had 1 VX-HOG left at $199.99, with free shipping. So I snagged it. I also ordered up some Warne QD rings in Medium and High (my math says I need High Warnes, but old habits are hard to break...).
  12. Should I order another 4?
  13. Is that ^^ your rifle? If so, you've got a pretty good setup for long(ish) distance out of the box. But I wouldn't want that rifle for home defense/"CQB" purposes. Long, heavy, unwieldy. The PRS buttstock is great for precision shooting -- especially from a bench -- but, again, it's heavy. The pistol grip? Same story. Never fear, though, that rifle can be made into whatever you want, and 308AR.com is chock full of guys who are experts at spending other people's money.
  14. That's about what the ocular on my .308 AR looks like now (with the Weaver Kaspa 3-12x50 in Warne Medium QD rings). Objective is actually below rail height...
  15. Yeah, I'm that guy who overthinks things in the interest making it "correct." If you think that's good, you should see the amortization tables I've made for every loan I've ever gotten...
  16. Excellent, thank you sir! So, then, doing some math... High Rise = .530" Low Profile = .125" (I believe this is the mil-spec AR15 height) So, the difference between those is .405". AR15 iron sight spec height above rail is 1.41", best I can find online. To stay at spec height, scope centerline should be at 1.41" above a standard AR15 rail. So, 1.41" - .405" = 1.005" above DPMS High Rise rail. Subtract one-half of scope tube diameter (in this case, .500"), and you get .505" from scope tube to DPMS High Rise rail to get to AR15 iron sight spec height. All that to say: Warne High rings are what I need. @blue109 Are your Warne rings QD? If so, I'd be interested in striking up a deal.
  17. I was just looking for the specs to compare the setup I'm planning on running (see below) to the "spec" iron sight height for an AR-pattern rifle. I'm going to be running the Leupold VX-HOG. Objective size is 1", ocular is 1.6". Probably in Warne medium rings. I'm obsessive about keeping my scopes as low as possible, so long as it's comfortable to run that way. I learned a long time ago how to figure minimum ring height (at least for Warne rings, measured from rail surface to bottom of scope tube): (Larger bell diameter - tube diameter) / 2 For this scope, that'd be: (1.6 - 1) / 2 = 0.3" Warne's medium rings measure .375" (3/8"), so that would be the minimum that would still allow the ocular bell to clear the rail.
  18. Just saw this come across my screen... http://kfor.com/2017/05/09/officials-man-injured-after-accidentally-shooting-self-in-hand-at-gun-range/ Curious as to the facts here. Not saying he was trying anything funny, but I'm also very much aware of the fact that most situations referred to as "accidental" discharges are actually negligent discharges due to poor trigger and/or muzzle discipline. I'm just glad no one else was injured. Be careful out there, folks!
  19. First and foremost: I know, I know. DPMS rail heights have been discussed ad nauseam here on multiple occasions. I know the difference between "High Profile" and "Low Profile" is approximately 1/16" (0.0625"). High Profile measures 3/16" (.1875") at the "tongue" above the charging handle, while a Low Profile measures 1/8" (.125") at the tongue. See this thread: But, after much searching, I have been unable to find a thread here that lists the height of a High Rise/High Top/Target upper. As I have an LR308T, with a HR/HT/T upper, this interests me. But I don't have calipers to accurately measure the "tongue" over the charging handle. Does anyone have a measurement they'd be willing to share? I'm in the market for a new scope and rings and this information would be helpful for choosing rings.
  20. So... you bought the sights for $2700 and they threw the rifle in for free? What a deal! I'd check out Fulton Armory. I ordered a NM front sight post from them for my Dissipator build and, IIRC, they carry NM rear sights as well (in carry handles). Be prepared to spend some money, though -- these ain't no MagPul BUIS...
  21. Really surprised no one has mentioned "clips vs. magazines" or "bullets vs. cartridges vs. shells."
  22. Looks like a good upgrade, blue! On a side note, that scope on the .308 has some hellacious ring marks!
  23. We got lots of rain this weekend, but thankfully no 'naders north of the Red River. Terrible what happened further south, though.
  24. Thank you, sir! I went back through this thread, and it appears you are who I should be thanking for the advice on the MBT. So... thanks!
  25. Oops... I tripped, fell, and built the lower tonight. Completely by accident. Then I mocked up the upper. The only good news (for my marriage...) is that I do not have the necessary setup to properly torque the barrel nut (don't have a bench-mounted vise or vise block), so the upper won't be completed until I come clean to the wife. As an aside (sort of...): I can't remember right now who pointed me in the direction of the MBT, but THANK YOU. I bought all of those triggers purely on faith, and all I can say is SWEET BABY JESUS. I thought the RRA I bought was a good trigger, but the MBT blows it out of the water.
