  1. I know I'm going to get a cussing here but I just turned a longer bumper out of HDPE for the 5.8 oz 2-1/2" KVP buffer.
  2. pull the bolt catch off and you can get even another turn on it. We are in WA and love experimenting/ improving/ruining other people's slides, barrels, receivers or any thing else they want run through a mill! Like the commercial says, we are just OK! Where in WA?
  3. 7" tube, 5.8 oz 2-1/2" buffer. Put a 7-5/8" tube on it and a 3-1/4" buffer and a 1/8" hdpe spacer (didn't have 50 cents left) things look good. That Tubbs is a raskel to install that's for sure.
  4. One question, Tubbs flat wire spring Did you use a 7-5/8" tube with the brace? Put mine together last night with the 7" tube that came with the brace and spring, completely compressed, would not allow BCG to catch on the bolt catch. Good 1/2" clearance without Tubbs spring, actually need 50 cents or so to clear the ears.
  5. Pics. Didn't get to the edit fast enough I guess
  6. Hey, Jeff, what I've been doing when the paperclip just sets there is post anyway, and then immediately edit. Pictures tool seems to work that way.
  7. Yes, and what a pain! Just did it after work tonight. Barrel wasn't long enough to put in the lathe, through hole too small for barrel extension. So up through the bottom of the drill press table, spun a piece of rod in the lathe that just fit the bore to align the bore with the chuck. That worked out pretty good. Clamped everything down and put a brand new .250 cobalt bit in. Squeeled like a little girl but wouldn't cut. Set the belts to high speed as it would go, put a solid carbide 1/4" end mill in, still squealed a bit but cut nicely. deburred with the dremel and a chain sharpener bit. Think I mentioned before these barrels are some hard ass $hit I may wait on the popple holes
  8. "Don't quit your day job" Had a good 4-5 hrs of spinning hand wheels back and fourth on an old, non DRO mill. Unlock X, spin, lock. Unlock Y, spin, lock. Unlock X, spin the other direction + .020 backlash, lock. unlock Y, spin the other direction + .060 backlash, lock. Unlock Z, down .030, lock. Repeat the whole process 25 times or so. Had to stop a couple times and let the spindle bearing cool off and pump some more grease in it. (and refill the adult beverage) Rifling and outside of barrel harder then heck. Fun project but wouldn't do it again w/o modern equipment.
  9. +1 for the Oregon lasercast 405's!
  10. No problem, have a temp gas tube already, and plenty of other projects... Worked on the porting on one of the 223 sig barrels today. Think maybe I'll add a popple hole, maybe some polish and bluing.
  11. Range day with the first 223 build. Cycled flawlessly. Good groups at 100 yards. Have everything in hand or ordered for the 12.5" 308 and a second 223. Viper PST optics.
  12. Looked all over the shop, then realized it wasn't me. Dang.
  13. On the porch when I got home pretty thing. WC Armory good price quick processing! See if I can get a picture up.
  14. 139 for the NiB 308 Toolcraft at wcarmory. Just ordered one.
  15. 308 12.5 in barrel does not have the same hard coating of the 223 barrels. Port was .062 opened it up to .078 soft as butter. same bit, hadn't even taken it out of the press. There is some weird $hit going on with these barrels. Not complaining, just observing! Installing the 308 barrel, bent the pins on my barrel wrench, went from 10 ftlbs to 80 in about 1/2 a hole, no joy on gas tube alignment. ordered a new wrench and some spacer shim washers.
  16. 5/64, not 5/32!
  17. OK, the 16in 223 barrel needs a 5/32" gas port, mine started with a .053+/-, no feed did not strip the round from the mag at all. Drilled a 1/16" .062, fed and ejected the rounds but no LRBHO. Drilled a 5/32" .078 LRBHO has been achieved. Used Dewalt cobalt bits. the first few thou is pretty discouraging, hard as hell, went real slow, that's where the bit may grab. Easy drilling rest of the way home. If you could dremel out the top few thousandths I think even HSS drills would cut. no mushrooms in the bore with the cobalt bits. very clean. 2.9+/- oz buffer, Millspec? black carbine spring
  18. I only have 3 barrels stacked up right now, so I guess I'm the lucky winner!
  19. I just PM'd him but go ahead, it's yours.
  20. Most of my money I spend on guns, cars, and women, the rest I just waste, someone once said...
  21. But no cycling issues with the rifle length gas system and 27.5 grains, correct? So you hit upon a load that has enough pressure to operate the longer gas system but not enough to maintain acceleration much past it. Out of curiosity, total waste of time, but it would be interesting to ladder up 27.6, 27.7, 27.8...keep going up 0.1 gr at a time until the 18" velocity passed the 16" with the original 27.5 gr. Then go the other way with the 16" until it was slower then the 27.5 in the 18". Could tell a lot about that powder characteristic. Or not.
  22. I'm surprised you didn't get anyone to argue with that statement! Hitting maximum speed at 16" and loosing speed for 2" is unusual for sure. I would expect a huge SD if that was happening. Curious if other factors were involved. For example, admittedly not apples to apples, but I can use some of the fastest burning pistol powders out there and bullets are still faster out of carbine length barrels over pistol length barrels. Yes, I'll admit I don't load or shoot that 6.5 caliber, still interesting...

  24. Thanks for the tip, see what you are saying. Taking really small steps, .025 ea pass.
  25. Got one for me?
