  1. .062 not quite enough, ran a few rounds in the basement, feeds and ejects now but still no LRBHO, going to .078
  2. port looks a little rough, I'll run an O/S through it last.
  3. ran a .062 through the .052 on the test barrel, clean punch through. have a .078 showing up any time, try that next, in the .062 hole. going to face the hole with a very small mill, surface of the barrel hard. Got the broken mill out of the test barrel, the hole cleaned up nicely, back to the mill soon
  4. Yes, saw that, thanks. Have a couple of new cobalt bits in that size range ordered. (I'm pretty sure I would just break off my 1/16 reamer if I tried that) Practice on the barrel with the broken mill bit first I guess. I'm thinking driving a slug into the barrel before drilling, but maybe go slow and easy no need. Worried about that tiny bit grabbing when it breaks through the bore. Maybe we are getting to the reason Sig dumped these barrels! Thanks.
  5. Ditto, couple small parts, stripped 308 upper, no problema also had good CS from DD lately, tiny screw lost sent another one no questions, N/C, maybe they are upping their game. Maybe not, maybe I just got lucky
  6. PS tried a really tight fitting gas block, same short stroke issue. these photos with the PA block. port go .052 no go. 055
  7. Range report 16in non threaded 5.56 Shot nice groups Romeo5/ VMX 3T great combination but under gas symptoms even using lightest buffer lightest spring bcg would set the disconnect/hammer and ejected 100% nicely but not enough travel to reliably lock back or strip next round. I'll strip it down and take a look maybe the gas block/ gas tube not sealing. On another note, started cutting a comp in one of the barrels, first slot came out nice stuck and broke bit in second slot. Learning curve. New bit ordered. Need a CNC!
  8. post, then edit, picture upload works when editing. that's how I've been posting photos for 2 or 3 days now
  9. guess I'm going to be right behind you. Did you end up with 11-1/8"?
  10. dimpled the barrel, tightened down the gas block, installed barrel and 12-1/16 tube. Marked center of cut out. Exactly 7/8". 11-3/16" tube it is.
  11. Three 80% millings done so far, a "Cheapest on the internet" AR15 Anodized Forged 7075 for practice, a 9MM Anodized Billet 6061-T6 from 5D, and a 308AR Anodized Billet 7075 T6 from American Made Tactical. They all milled cleanly, but the AMT 308 slightly cratered the 3 drilled holes (Safety and FCG) . Like a little ridge around the hole. Not sure if it was the 7075 aluminum, anodizing, or ? but pretty sure the drill bits are not to blame, like new. Also had a heck of a time punching the holes through, bits grabbing like nobody's business. Didn't have that problem on the other 2. Using an aluminum cutting fluid, maybe go back to WD 40 for drilling.
  12. It seems like I can't post a photo, "Loading" down by the paperclip stays like that for as long as I want to wait. but if I post, then edit, no problem with photo. Just be fast.
  13. Thanks. The first 5.56 sig barrel w/ stripped toolcraft BCG go gauge fit, no go was not even close. Then proceeded to shoot the ejector and spring across the shop, heard it hit something, think it went out the door after that. Then proceeded to perform the same operation again except out the window, nothing but net. I've assembled bolts before without any special tools, but fingers aren't as nimble as they use to be, time to order a n assembly tool I guess... Anyway, tried to cycle some live ammo next, reloads that function fine in both Colts (and fit the case gauge) were really tight/ sticky/ difficult to extract in the Sig barrel, but bulk factory ammo was fine. Range Sunday hopefully.
  14. Dsg arms MRAD or MOA PST GEN 2 1-6×24 with the switchview lever $539 no tax free 2 day shipping. Think I paid $599 and another $50 for the lever a while back. Don't ask why I was looking.
  15. Looking online I see .223 Go-Nogo, .223 min max, 5.56 go- nogo, 5.56 min max, and one set that is labeled ".223-5.56" min max but both have the 1.436 dim?. (Plus the associated field gauge Absolute no go?) Is there any difference between the 556 and the 223 SPECIFICALLY when it comes to these gauges?
  16. I saw they are out of the 16in non threaded. (Don't ask why I was looking) Romeo5 and a 3x. Romeo looks good through the magnafier
  17. First of the $49.00 Sig barrel builds pretty much complete, maybe get on the mill this weekend and fishgill one of the barrels. Aero Precision upper and gen2 lower, Toolcraft BCG, millspec FCG, Danial Defense pistol grip, ebay guard, JBO $9.00 gas block. Have a Sig Romeo 5 coming tomorrow. Also looked at the Holosun, they were on several platforms at triggercon as well, maybe the next budget build.
  18. Yes it is. Oak is at the Nationals next couple weeks so no tube till then anyway, gives me a chance to double check. What I'll try is installing the gas block and the midlength tube, and mark it inside the receiver. See what I get that way. Thanks for the input.
  19. Those shortened bullets are a drag, had a few while working the bugs out myself. On the factory lawman ammo, never happened and I had a hell of a time pulling a bullet just to see what powder / charge, like they are glued in. Couldn't do it with the collet die puller, had to slam it out with the kinetic puller. I usually spray a little lube in the case feeder after dumping in a pile of brass but stopped doing that with the 40. Really need clean tight neck tension. Examining some of the fired brass after it's cleaned, it has some hits at the mouth as well.
  20. Good looking build, but I was talking tube. Thanks.
  21. Rotation The 3 BCGs I tried starting with the gas key lined up with the alignment pin on the barrel extension, bolt extended. Bolt went in and rotated to locked position. While applying pressure I could rotate the BCG a little bit either direction but not 360. That seems good, no? I assembled the 308 barrel with upper receiver and bolt closes and rotates to locked position. I dont have a 308 headspace gauge but I do have a progressive set of dummies ranging from min to a few thou over max in my case gauge I may try them next but I see no problem with the AM10bolt, or either the 223 bolts. The only issue I can see is maybe dropping the BCG on a already chambered round and the pin prevents the extractor from opening up to clear the rim, further testing needed!
  22. I'm thinking 49 bucks to practice milling Fishgill and blowhole comps and brakes is cheap schooling. Enough to convince myself to get another. Screw it up and it's a pistol barrel or pin a real comp on it.
  23. Loaded some Berrys round nose 180s last night, manually cycled a couple mags through fast and hard. Get smilly faces on the top of the rounds where they hit the top of the chamber before they bounce in. Flipped them all over and did it again. Soft bullets for sure but I'm thinking maybe need the feed ramp on the top of the chamber, don't think the bottom is the problem with good mags. Like to find some real jacketed bullets that don't cost an arm and a leg. My other 2 rounds are XTP 155 and Xtreme 180s, plus a few of the lawman 155 left. The harder bullets in the cheap mags seem to work well, and having good luck with the glock factory mags also. Last thing on mags, don't get too aggressive on the hard stop on the left side, if you don't have to slam them hard you have taken too much off. Take a look at stern defense or torkmag website I think that's where I found some filing techniques Mine are running very reliably
  24. Down to 8 of the non-threaded 223's.
  25. Yes, I guess that was my point, it wasn't done to decommission the barrel...
