Down at the police range shop this morning looking around before we hit the range, noticed a couple of pistol braced ARs. First one, adjustable, Gear Head brace, real similar to a carbine type buffer tube but notches in the side of the guide rail instead of round recesses, talking to the officer behind the counter his comment was "can't use a carbine tube with a pistol brace" I pointed to one of the other pistols with the SBA3 brace on it, wow, right there, AR pistols with carbine buffer tubes. Didn't rub it in or anything, (good group of guys down there) but if I had the same conversation with the same officer in, say, a different situation, (one where there wasn't a SBA3 hanging on the wall and I had an ar pistol in my car situation) I would have been screwed. It would have been the " prevailed in the end but screwed in the mean time" kind of screwed, but still screwed. Unfortunate the LEOs around here aren't up on the regs, but I'll bet that's the norm not the exception. Probably same with Fish and Game. Anyway, liked the look of the Gear Head, hadn't seen one up close before.

And I cut it a strong 11- 3/16" straight, it is still a full 11-3/16" after the bends There are 46 of the 12.5" .308 barrels left, I wish I had the willpower to buy a few more and just stash them away. My problem is every $49.00 great deal turns into another $649.00 build!

You bet. Really want a can but don't feel like messing with the app process right now. Pistol didn't seem to beat me up too bad, off the bench or off hand not bad with 150's and 180's.

Shot the 308 pistol and the ported 223 this morning. 308 is a madman, really blast to shoot-- the gravel pit ain't going to know what hit it. 80% lower, 11-3/16" gas tube cut, necked, and bent from a straight rifle length tube, no name $89 upper, Seekins adjustable block, Toolcraft NiB BCG, ebay ebay CDNN. Radian Talon safety. (Splurged on the BCG and the safety!) 110% reliable, zero issues. Ported 223 had noticeably less recoil, quicker back on target then the non ported, even with the lighter hand guard. Seemed like less muzzle rise as well, maybe my imagination. Functioned flawlessly. Once I had the gas block setting dialed in it fed 150's and 180's with 100% reliability.

Sorry, that was suppose to go in the Sig Barrel thread...

Almost finished the build around the ported sig 5.56 barrel. Dabbed a little 44/40 original cold blue in the ports Anderson upper and lower Toolcraft BCG Not sure where the tiny little millspec looking buttstock came from, been laying around for 20 years or so. MBUS sights only at this time Aim Sport guard, I was impressed with this, self aligning, lightweight, clean looking. Didn't have a buffer detent spring or pin, the rule that if you dig deep enough in the parts bin you will find what you need didn't quite work out, stuffed the spring and buffer in it anyway and snapped her shut. Parts bin almost empty. Range in the morning with this and the 308 and and...

WTS: Ballistic Advantage 18" 6.5 Creedmoor S/S 1-8" Barrel
Albroswift replied to concretus's topic in For Sale or Trade
Barrel arrived Monday, looks better than the photos Thanks for the deal -
I know I'm going to get a cussing here but I just turned a longer bumper out of HDPE for the 5.8 oz 2-1/2" KVP buffer.
-
pull the bolt catch off and you can get even another turn on it. We are in WA and love experimenting/ improving/ruining other people's slides, barrels, receivers or any thing else they want run through a mill! Like the commercial says, we are just OK! Where in WA?
-
7" tube, 5.8 oz 2-1/2" buffer. Put a 7-5/8" tube on it and a 3-1/4" buffer and a 1/8" hdpe spacer (didn't have 50 cents left) things look good. That Tubbs is a raskel to install that's for sure.
-
One question, Tubbs flat wire spring Did you use a 7-5/8" tube with the brace? Put mine together last night with the 7" tube that came with the brace and spring, completely compressed, would not allow BCG to catch on the bolt catch. Good 1/2" clearance without Tubbs spring, actually need 50 cents or so to clear the ears.

Hey, Jeff, what I've been doing when the paperclip just sets there is post anyway, and then immediately edit. Pictures tool seems to work that way.

Yes, and what a pain! Just did it after work tonight. Barrel wasn't long enough to put in the lathe, through hole too small for barrel extension. So up through the bottom of the drill press table, spun a piece of rod in the lathe that just fit the bore to align the bore with the chuck. That worked out pretty good. Clamped everything down and put a brand new .250 cobalt bit in. Squeeled like a little girl but wouldn't cut. Set the belts to high speed as it would go, put a solid carbide 1/4" end mill in, still squealed a bit but cut nicely. deburred with the dremel and a chain sharpener bit. Think I mentioned before these barrels are some hard ass $hit I may wait on the popple holes

"Don't quit your day job" Had a good 4-5 hrs of spinning hand wheels back and fourth on an old, non DRO mill. Unlock X, spin, lock. Unlock Y, spin, lock. Unlock X, spin the other direction + .020 backlash, lock. unlock Y, spin the other direction + .060 backlash, lock. Unlock Z, down .030, lock. Repeat the whole process 25 times or so. Had to stop a couple times and let the spindle bearing cool off and pump some more grease in it. (and refill the adult beverage) Rifling and outside of barrel harder then heck. Fun project but wouldn't do it again w/o modern equipment.

+1 for the Oregon lasercast 405's!
-
No problem, have a temp gas tube already, and plenty of other projects... Worked on the porting on one of the 223 sig barrels today. Think maybe I'll add a popple hole, maybe some polish and bluing.

Range day with the first 223 build. Cycled flawlessly. Good groups at 100 yards. Have everything in hand or ordered for the 12.5" 308 and a second 223. Viper PST optics.

Looked all over the shop, then realized it wasn't me. Dang.

On the porch when I got home pretty thing. WC Armory good price quick processing! See if I can get a picture up.

139 for the NiB 308 Toolcraft at wcarmory. Just ordered one.

308 12.5 in barrel does not have the same hard coating of the 223 barrels. Port was .062 opened it up to .078 soft as butter. same bit, hadn't even taken it out of the press. There is some weird $hit going on with these barrels. Not complaining, just observing! Installing the 308 barrel, bent the pins on my barrel wrench, went from 10 ftlbs to 80 in about 1/2 a hole, no joy on gas tube alignment. ordered a new wrench and some spacer shim washers.
