2mm solid carbide drill bit on amazon $8.50. Harder then cobalt (and little more brittle) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S8CWT7L/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AXK4HRSD2GT4N&psc=1

5/64" is what I drilled the 223 barrels and the 308 barrel at, cobalt bit, WD40. The 223 (QPQ Nitride?) barrels were way worse then the 308 chrome barrel, drilled 1/16 first then 5/64. Using the fine feed on a mill would really be the way to go using minimal protrusion from the chuck. The 223's run fine with the $4.99 gas block at that diameter, put an adjustable on the 308 adjusted a little over a turn in from wide open so for sure plan on an adjustable if you drill 3/32". Just thinking, What are 12-1/2" barrels going for with a broken off bit in the gas port? I know someone who might be interested.

Guess I better read the archived posts! Only been hanging around here for a year or so...

Curious about the scope, what led you to PA for optics?

Didn't want you to think I wasn't doing my homework! A company like Aero Precision throwing a 2-1/2" 3.8 oz buffer into their M4 kit and calling it M5/ 308, what is it with these guys? They sell complete carbines and rifles for gawds sake. Is Armalite, Voltr, Spikes, and 308AR.com the only ones with the secret to a smooth running large frame AR? Everyone else just gets a shoulder beating?

I've drill 3 now, drill press, very careful, very slow, very stressful! What size bit, and HSS? Cobalt? TiN? I've gotten things like that out before. If it just broke through and grabbed/ twisted off my first remedy would be to cut a piece of HSS drillrod of the next size down and carefully try to tap it through the rest of the way. If it's HSS that's broken off, cobalt will drill through but need to be set up very stable in the press and minimum bit sticking out of the chuck. Could drill slightly oversized with a small solid carbide end mill, punch out broken bit, clean up hole and use adjustable gas block. And pictures!

Not trying to hurt anyone's feelings, but that upper and rail are butt ugly. So ugly I looked for a butt ugly emoji but no joy. Good thing I'm a southpaw or I would have one butt ugly slick side shorty in the works. And I just wonder, who is buying up all those barrels...

EDIT: Nope on the M5, Aero M5 is AR15 length w/ 2-1/2" 3.8oz buffer https://www.aeroprecisionusa.com/m5-308-carbine-buffer-kit

So far Feed ramps good. Rounded ejector-check Gas tube- 11-3/4" Recoil- 3-1/4" buffer in an Aero M4 extension and M4 carbine spring. And supposedly it does feed a lot of the rounds. Didn't know that was possible. Bet it kicks like a mule. (Maybe he typo-ed, i'll ask him M5?) Think he is warming to replacing gas tube and extension kit w/ Armalite. Aero M5 upper and lower- Check

There is a whole forum mostly dedicated to the Keltec Sub 2000's gotta be 2000 or 3000 members. Can't imagine thousands of people all talking about just one platform, oh, wait a minute... Anyway, trying to talk one member into posting over here, kind of a "I built a AR-10 with AR-15 parts and it don't feed so good" guy, but I don't think he believes there is an entire forum dedicated to one particular platform (well, other then S2K)... Been helping him as much as possible, maybe he'll come around...

Sightmark/ Sellmark Tried their R-Spec red dot reflex, we put them on 2 different AR 40 builds, one at least has been off and back on, still holding zero and using the same battery they came with. Only flaw I can find is the retical change lever can move, happened once, but moved it back still zero. Looking at some of their scopes, pretty much have about 100 different options from 1-4×20 to 10-40×60. Can't find much bad said about them, other then they don't quit match up with scopes costing 5x as much. Might skip one of the goto brands and try one next time, maybe one of their 1-10×24s.

I'm knee deep in the shiit, working in Pioneer Square. If a person feels like working here it's like picking gold up off the street. If you don't, free needles and cheap heroin and a really loud wake up call really early in the morning when you set your cardboard box/ tent/ shopping cart up in front of my construction entrance!

This is the least of Seattle's problems!

+1 Anderson Manufacturing Replaced my AM10 upper and lower, barrel, and handguard on a second hand midlength carbine when they determined it was built before they really knew what they were doing. Used Anderson on my latest AR15 build for upper and lower, great price great product.

Good tip. good tip.

well, maybe not 4.

OK, ok, every time I checked they were out of stock. Now in stock but the price went up. Still what do we end up spending going to 2-3 different sites to get a long tube, heavy buffer, spring, etc. Voltr A5 tube $50, out of stock. Armalite tube $42.00 Primary Arms. Heavy buffers? Not free. Oh, and by the way, Armalite kit just went out of stock again while I was typing! All those PSA G3 buyers must have hit the site. Rule 65b.

Now 42 barrels left, $0.00 shipping (Don't ask me how I know...)

Armalite 1027025 Carbine 6 position extension tube, ECO120 5.5 oz buffer, EA1095 spring, castle nut and plate $65.00 + $5.00 shipping. In stock. Need at least one or two of these on the shelf, no?

Spotting scopes deteriorating
Albroswift replied to RedRiverII's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
No, didn't ask. Wish now I had of when it first started. I'm thinking it's a little too late now for masking tape and matte sprat paint anyway. -

I'll stick some dry leaves to them when I get back out to the woods, like a mini gillie suit. At least it keeps the goo off every thing else. -

The steiners are over 20 years old, breakdown started 7, 8, maybe 9 years ago. Slowly spread. Never cleaned or exposed to solvents, but they do spend a fair amount of time on the dashboard. Maybe a uv thing -
Spotting scopes deteriorating

My Stieners did the same thing, started sticking leaves and brush to it to keep from getting the residue on my hands but its 80% gone now, once it starts it never stops. Started as a little patch about the size of a quarter, I would get this black greasy stuff on my hand didn't know where it was coming from. Looking at the Sig Kilo 3000 bdx but can't get my arms around the price tag. -
Its funny looking up and down the line on our pistol range how many AR pistol's are being shouldered/ cheek welded, half of them are LEO. So some of them are educated at least. Last week a guy had an AR15 pistol 9" barrel or so, bipod and optic, loud ass brake, shooting on the rifle line, started talking to him about it, said he bought it complete at the range office. Brings new meaning to "Support Your Local Sheriff"!
