  1. Fukc CMMG and all the parts that come from their shop. They are cheap sweatshop parts with no QC.
  2. You're not missing anything. You got it right on. Most guys that run BUIS also have a QD mount for their optics. Co-witnessing really only works with 1x optics (ie; red dots and holographics). A decent QD scope mount that guarantees a return to zero will cost about +$200.
  3. My Harris cants.... Harris also sells a pivot attachment.
  4. Most soldering irons have a blade that'll make short order of the foam.
  5. While your supervisor is tongue punching the regional mngr in his fart box, you can rest easy at your new old job.
  6. Attaboy!
  7. I'm excited!
  8. Off set sights are not BUIS. I wouldn't expect the same performance. Off set sights were designed for a faster means of target acquisition when transitioning from long to short range targets. Specifically for the time sensitive competition crowd. In that game, accuracy comes second to speed. Much faster to tilt your rifle than it is to dial down your magnification. BUIS/MBUS were designed for failed optics. A decent set of standard sights will get you to 600m. An advanced set will get you to 1000m.
  9. Are you asking me to find the video of Travis Haley, shooting a suppressed subsonic 300Blk, out of a 9" barrel, using only a red dot, to hit his target at over 700 yards? If you're just looking at accuracy, a 12.5" barrel will hit steel at 1,000 yards. Not saying the bullet would do much to a fleshy target at that distance... but it'll hit nonetheless. Velocity helps against weather factors, but doesn't necessarily = accuracy.
  10. KAC has two sets, one for 300m and one for upto 600m. I always thought of them for more of a sub-25 yards. If you need to shoot further than that, why are you not using your optics?
  11. I read that entire thread. The price looks good and the guys sound eager to be part of the industry. To me it looks like just another Mega/Seekins, which seems like the norm now. TBO, I don't see how any company is going to be able to keep their prices >$400 per set. There are so many mfg's putting out receivers, there's just no money in it. Especially when a few bad apples are in a race to the bottom, just to make a quick $$. The next generation of firearm is coming.... I can sense it.... like a 6th sense. A rifle that bridges gaps unseen or thought uncrossable. While I don't forsee this set being part of the next generation (more of a new, old design) I do hope they join us.
  12. Lightweight barrels are absolutely a good way to go. I have a featherweight Rem 700 in .221 Fireball, that I'll put against any bull barrel for a single cold shot. Respect the barrel and understand the limitations of the cartidge, you'd be surprised how much you get out of very little. If I didn't live in Kalifornistan, I doubt I'd own a barrel longer than 14" on any rifle.... I just don't see a need.
  13. That's not a lightweight barrel. That's just a standard barrel. Fulton Armory sells a Criterion 16" ultralight barrel with a rifle length gas system. That is absolutely the lightest, NFA-legal, barrel you can get.... If you can find one.
  14. You never read that here... I would have blown a gasket if that were posted in this house.
  15. Just my $0.02... here's the brief on my build. Optimized for upto 600, but don't expect to see beyond 300 too often. Custom .308 w/ 17" barrel Nightforce NXS Compact 2.5-10x32 with (LV) Velocity 600 reticle
  16. "THE RULE" Ammended
  17. I was falling for the FNH line of pistolas, but continuously find myself back to looking at Sigs. I was ready to pull the proverbial trigger on an FNX-45... Then I saw the Sig P226 9mm TacOps came with x4 20rd mags. If I was dead set on a polymer gun, Sig has their new striker series that just came out... boasting 17 rds of 9mm! Even their new P227 has 12+1, with a "tactical" model coming out with 14+1 in .45 ACP. My buddy owns the FNX-40, and snapped the safety/decocker on his first outing. FNH replaced with no issues, but it still happened nonetheless.
  18. Welcome... from about 3 hours westbound I-80.
  19. What do you consider "long range"?
  20. How well do you know/trust this smith? Most of the guys around here can turn out a complete build in a few hours. Sounds to me like he never started and he's buying time.
  21. Pissed off the wife when I laughed out loud while reading this in bed.
  22. You're liking that real Raddlock now though!
  23. Welcome... just west of ya on I80!
  24. He wants the Mk8, of course.... and we should encourage that!
  25. I own two flat McCormick triggers. One in my 5.56, and one in my .308. They are both awesome for me.
