  1. I'm going to look into this range. My biggest love for bird hunting is chucker and pheasant.
  2. I stand corrected. It definitely is not the same. Although it is very close to the Magpul MOE K2. I think the K2 has a little more meat to it.
  3. Uh oh!
  4. Where's a 1k range in Dunnigan? That's s short drive for me (Sac). Maxwell is on the way to my favorite fishin hole, Letts Lake.
  5. Mother fucker!!
  6. I played with Kryptek when I was at Cabelas last Friday. I especially liked the style and fabric they used. It's very similar to my off road gear. The base layers are all synthetic, breathable, moisture-wicking. The cover layers are synthetic as well, and insulate at varying levels. I too was looking at the green over tan. Tom hit it on the head with our CA colors. If it's on the ground it's golden/brown about 80% of the year. Then most of our trees/bushes are green all year. I remember Sitka when they were at Cabelas. A whole outfit cost $1,000!!! It was nice stuff, and looked good, but it was more than I was ready to spend.
  7. Anyone wear any of the new stuff?? I bought my old "Real Tree" gear about 10-15 years ago. It's still in ok condition (a little faded), but I have lost a LOT of weight since then. I'm now looking at the new A-TACS and the Kryptek camo. I like the ATAC print, but all the clothes I see are military style. The kryptek clothing is more focused for hunting, and designed for layering (very important for CA hunting). I'm debated, which ever style I choose, should I do all one color? Or mix and match different colors (tan with green)? So far, Kryptek is only made by Kryptek, but available everywhere. ATACs is made by a bunch of people (www.SORDUSA.com and www.Tactical-Performance.com are my two favorites) but really only available online. Any ideas? Suggestions? Reviews? Experience?
  8. I thought most of that dry lube was graphite based???
  9. I went the the Reno, NV gun show yesterday. This is a regular trip for me. I live so far from my father that this is one of the few times I get to hang out with him. I don't usually buy anything. I never sell anything. For me it's like going to a ball game. I get to see and enjoy my favorite hobby. .22 ammo was about $20 per box of 50 and averaged $75 per bulk box. Magazines were so obnoxious that I eventually stopped looking. A guy wanted $75 for a Sig P220 magazine. I bought the same magazine from the same guy last year... For $39!!! 30rnd PMAGs averaged $30, and the metal mags were $20-$30. LR-20 pmags were insanely priced $75-$90 I was upset with the entire event.... On the flip side, bolt action and lever action guns were being sold at GREAT prices. I almost bought a new Ruger M77, but I was holding out for a Mossy MVP or the Ruger GSR. My old man grabbed a marlin in 45-70 recently. That is his newest toy.
  10. One of our "former" officers had this happen in his home. His equally intelligent brother tried to demonstrate his Glock prowess by disassembling the pistol..... End result was a total failure, and a trip to the ER.
  11. I wish I had as many lowers as I have uppers!
  12. Magpul actually recommends the CAR10 with their UBR. Clint, from heavybuffers.com, advises that the Armalite AR10 buffer spring works best in combo with the CAR10. The problem with those "reviews" is that anyone can submit one. There is no basis for experience level. I would love to interview one of those reviewers to find out the real reason their rifle is FUBAR... I'm sure it's not user error! (Insert sarcasm here) If you can pull the charging handle and lock the bolt back, it is not a buffer issue. If you are still getting FTF, FTE or fail to lock after last round, there are other issues you may have to address. Really, all I read in most of those reviews is, "I spent $1k on a rifle and put a $100 part in it. Now I'm disappointed that it doesn't shoot like a $4k rifle." I especially hate the, "I have a X upper and a Y lower with a Z barrel and a random BCG. This new part doesn't fit in my freakish patchwork build, so it must suck. Why can't all companies make .308 parts MIL SPEC?" They should hold their heads under water till they figure it out.
  13. <---- gun envy
  14. You guys should really see some of the riders we have here. Nothing is cooler than seeing the freestyle stuff the guys add to their riding here. Seeing a +1200cc bike come to a line, riding on the front wheel... Or watching a guy do the same course, riding side-saddle. It's sweeeet. I'll see if I can find some local videos. We have some GREAT riders here.
  15. This was my thought exactly! I was thinking about 4" up on the handguard, forward of the receiver. That'd keep it out if the way of my hands as well.
  16. More reason why I'll never shop there!!!
  17. The only issue I have with my boy, is changing his diaper. I swear it's like trying to wrap a water balloon with a loose knot. If that knot goes before the diaper is done, you are totally fukt!!
  18. I've seen pics of the skeletonized mount, but it didn't have the off-set rail on it. If you can link to the pic, that'd be awesome.

  20. .625 is also 5/8" The .308 barrel threads are 5/8" Look at the barrel picture from FA.... Do the threads and the gas block location look the same diameter? The ".625 has block" has got to be a typo. As for the Rainier Select... I bought a 14.5" Rainier Select in 5.56. It was ok, I guess?!?? The finish wasn't all that great, and the threads were a little rough. In fact, when I was cleaning the initial oil off the threads, the rough threads snagged the fibers of the rag I was using. I sold it online, the same afternoon I got it in the mail. I replaced it with the elusive Rainier Match (not the UltraMatch) barrel, by Wilson Barrels. The difference was a 14.5" stainless .223 Wylde 1:8.... I was actually taken back by how much nicer the Match barrel was. If you're on a budget, and just "ok" is good enough... Get the Select. It will shoot and lay you a long time. If you can find the extra $$$ in your wallet, and you want the peace of mind that you'll never think "damn, I wish I got a better barrel when I had the chance"... The FA barrel is better made from a better product. Even the spec's are better thought out. If you can afford it now, you will never regret it. Personally, if I had not have bought my über expensive carbon fiber barrel, the FA 16" rifle length barrel was the only other alternative in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, Rainier is a great company and FA might not compete with them in service, but the Select barrels are not a show of Rainiers quality.
  21. Wow, no one in the firearm industry dies for how long??? Then in the last 4 months we start losing numerous CEOs from major industry leaders!!! I'm just sayin....
  22. BOHICA used to make bolt action uppers for AR lowers. I know they were in .50 BMG, .338 Lapua and I think either .408 or .416???? If I remember correctly, they used a side mounted magazine box. They also had a single shot version.
  23. My demented humor travels into some dark areas. Been a cop for 10 years, raised in a cop family. I've seen so much shit that you have to point and laugh or else it starts affecting you. When i first started, i got a "talking to" because I was eating my lunch at the scene of a suicide/hanger in a tree. Not my fault they found the body dangling just before my break!?!? A guy has gotta eat!!!
  24. My wife has mastered rolling her eyes. She can't even fake interest anymore.
  25. I have a flat CS spring (Tubb) with a CAR10 heavy buffer now. Clint advises against the flat springs... I'm going to try to blast a few rounds soon and see how she chambers. If it doesn't work out, I'll just order the new spring. No big deal. I have so many extra parts I almost have a second rifle.
