  1. Give em hell tomorrow.
  2. I was going through withdrawals. Glad it all popped up ok
  3. 5.56/.223 not as necessary.... All the other calibers, it is a small expense for a very expensive/dangerous failure. 99.9% of all AR-15 parts are made to be within a certain spec (hence the term Mil-Spec). The problem is that there is no "Mil-Spec" for the other calibers. The 308AR has so many different variants that it is really hard to guarantee you'll be ok. If your barrel maker is +0.005" and your bolt maker is -0.005", then you will be off by 0.01" and that is a BIG red light. Take advantage of the barrel maker headspacing for you. If there are ever any issues with that later on, they'll take care of you better.
  4. I agree with Edge. It's common for new/inexperienced or smaller shooters. If you take him out again, start him prone. The solid base behind him will solidify his grip. Unexpected double taps are almost always soft shoulders, and weak stances. From the description of your set-up (and with Imschur's quote from JP) I don't think your rifle likes the lighter weight bullets. There is not enough force/pressure to work the action 100%. You'll probably see a lot better performance once you get over 160gr. Those 165's you wrote about will probably work just fine. If you want to try a lighter buffer let me know. I have a stock DPMS LR-308 buffer that is just sitting in my tool box. I'll let you borrow mine to try out.
  5. The Ranger SXT is the same as the old Black Talon, minus being black. The Ranger T series is their upgrade.
  6. $100 for BT??? Tell him I have some LE Ranger-T that smokes the old BT stuff. That's all I'll carry any more.
  7. Manzanita is everywhere around here. I've pin-striped every vehicle I've hunted in. Based on: • The scenery • The animal • The IP address, lol I'm guessing that's a local hunt. My hometown is swarming with oinkers!
  8. That 111a is HUGE. I like those tacti-machete's. Did you get the tanto or the standard point?
  9. I have a suspicion I know whereabouts he's from... I hope he doesn't get caught hunting with those magazines around here.
  10. That is a good looking blade! Did you get the straight blade or the serrated? At work, I carry a Cold Steel Tanto "Voyager". I've had this knife for years. The blade is still sharp enough. It is caked with all manners of nastiness (as the job often requires). It's days of cutting apples are long gone, but it still has a long working life ahead of it. I used to carry an Emerson Commander. After losing two of them, you stop buying expensive toys. I still love this knife, but can't find it in my wallet to buy it again. Today I have the Kershaw "Blur" by Ken Onion. I bought one for my wife when we were dating. She loves hers. She carries if daily. It's a great knife, but dulls quick. Depending on use, it should be sent back every 2-3 years to get that razor edge back. And since we are posting chest rig knives... Here's one some of you might recognize. My LanCay M9.
  11. That story was from last year. I believe they cleared up the issue. Something about the M27 failing with Magpul followers/PMAGs.
  12. Pre-spring has to suck at ANY bike shop. I don't envy that at all. We had crazy weather today. Clouds came in and out all day. 65 degrees for most of it, although it spiked in the 70's for a short minute. I've been getting a lot of riding in.
  13. I admit, I get beard envy
  14. Im thinking of using a JP silent spring for my pistol build. <dontknow>
  15. I love rifled slugs. In the hands of a decent shooter, there is no more devistating firearm. I'm very tempted to try one of those 12gauge uppers in development.
  16. Edge is right. If you want, you can put a carbine spacer inside a rifle length buffer tube. That will allow you to use a carbine buffer and spring. If you are looking for collapsible, for storage reasons. LAW Tactical makes a folding stock adapter. It will work on any stock. It will also work on both the large and small format rifles.
  17. Lol, she didn't really say that. That version was just funnier than the "No" answer I got. I told her I will need a beard before my next trip to AZ. She is a pro at rolling her eyes at me!
  18. I asked my wife last night what she though about me growing a beard. She asked what kind? I tell her, "like Tom".... She says, "oh, grey?!" Lol Then she used her power of veto to squash any beard attempts.
  19. You are correct, gas and buffer systems don't have to match. Don't think that having a rifle length buffer system limits you. Besides the PRS and the A2, several other companies make fixed stocks; RRA Operator, Magpul MOE Fixed stock, VLTOR Fixed stock and the ACE skeleton stock. If you want a collapsible stock, you'll need a carbine buffer system. That will require all new tube, buffer and spring.
  20. You guys laugh now, but that bike can do some sweet jumps. Besides, I'm sure I'll build an AR to match it in time <thumbsup> Is this where I bring up the fact that at that age I'll be cashing in those economy-crashing, public-safety, retirement checks?
  21. The backings on my rails go lengthwise with the slots
  22. Whatever size you use, make sure you use a sharp bit designed for high speed cutting. Cutting carbon fiber can be a real MF'er. A diamond bit or a glass cutter might work better than a standard wood bit. It also helps to cover the spot you're drilling with a bit of tape first. It will hold the loose fibers better. I drilled a few CF parts for my wife's ATV. Big time PITA.
  23. You guys would be surprised how often this happens. Locally, one of our LGS loaded up a uhaul a day in advance for a gun show... Need I say more? A fire broke out at our local uniform shop. The fire dept, in their infinite wisdom, pulled all the uniforms out of the store and stashed them in the back alley. Over 100 uniforms from various dept's... Gone! It sux, but it'll keep happening.
  24. You're more of a hoarder than a historian... I take that back... You're more of a whore-der!
  25. 98 is right. The only problem is they are $$$$. The MOE rails are lighter and cost $5-$10.
