Most gas blocks have a smaller inner diameter than the BABC. That'd be as productive as puttin your shoes on before your pants, not impossible but more work than necessary. I would, at the very least, slide the gb on prior to mounting the BABC. What length barrel are you using that you need to pin/weld the comp? Being that the upper is a mono, I'd assume that your gas block should be in place beforehand... Although I don't know how that would work with those fancy wrenches they use. Seems like you might have one of those tasks ahead of you, where you're gonna wish for tiny hands to reach those tiny spaces. Good luck?

SS, you and Imschur have the SI-D GenII receivers. When i bought my SI-D they told me that the GenIII receiver set was 20% lighter than other similar receivers. I don't have the rail on the side of mine. What do you put on that rail?

You listed several rifles that are built for very different reasons. The JP rifles are great rifles, but their target audience is the sport shooter. I love their rifles, but they're better for racing or paper-killing, than combat. The GAP, the Les Baer and the DPMS SASS are all great paper killers and boat anchors. Not the best combat or race gun. The OBR and the two REPR's you picked are combat hogs. These guns wil do absolutely everything you ask of them. Shoot far, shoot close, run around, get dirty... They do it all. As far as the bang for buck, I think the OBR will do nicely.

Stainless and NiB How effin nice is that!!

With those charts Edgecrusher posted it looks like the Nosler Ballistic Tip 125gr is getting about 5-7% more velocity over the Speer and Sierra. I know very little about reloading. I understand that not all primers and powders are created equal. To what extent those differences are, I am oblivious. Jgun, I would assume, based solely on my very novice understanding, that the boat tail shape and ballistic tip of the Nosler provide that extra 5% velocity you are looking for. Although, I recognize that the bullet is considerably longer and also assume that a different powder/primer would be required. Am I anywhere close to understanding this?

Wow, I don't even remember. One really nice thing was the customer service from Troy. The only tritium set available was the HK style. After they came in the mail I sent them to Troy, who graciously swapped the set for the Di-Optic set.

There is no emoticon to represent the amount of jealousy I am experiencing. That is a beastly BCG. Is it just me, or is that thing bigger than normal.

@Jgun, The Dissy barrel is strictly to have a longer sight radius when using a regular handguard (like the MOE) on a carbine length barrel. Using a FF on a Dissy would be a little silly in my book as you could extend the FF and get the same results, as you pointed out. @6132expert, That is the post I've been waiting to hear! Thank you.

The inner diameter of an A2 front sight block should be either .625 or .750... A shim or bore-up would be the easy enough. The problem would be the taper-pin holes... and I have ZERO interest in trying that. If the barrel isn't made to fit a rifle length front sight, I actually plan to use a "clamp-on" style PRI .750 GB (I have an extra one laying around)... If I can't tighten it down tight enough as it is, then I can modify it for adjustments. Most of the regular diameter barrels I have looked at are .700-.710 from the gasblock location to the bore. Fitting shouldn't be an issue.

If CMMG makes a decent enough barrel, I'm in. Their price is attractive, but I can't imagine much quality from that low of a price tag. Especially when the Noveske barrel is more than double the cost. I'm thinking about maybe a carbine length Osprey piston kit, wrap a rifle length MOE handguard around it, then come up with something fancy for the front sight. Maybe even a BABC for fun?!? It'd look similar to this... (I love tough chick's!)

I just fixed a rifle for a guy with the EXACT same issue. Buffer retainer all banged to hell, and spring completely gone. His was an AR15, so his selector detent spring was FUBAR also. 98 is most likely right (again :P ). Make sure the lip of your buffer tube isn't damaged and then just double check it's screwed in deep enough when you get your new parts. With luck, you'll only be out of pocket $4-$5 in parts.

I'm intrigued. If they figure out the ambi mag release (or just install a Norgon) they'll steal the market from the AXTS guys. My issue is the all "stainless" look. My jury is out till I see one completed. I have the NiB coated upper. I didn't see the benefit of NiB coating my lower. I look forward to seeing more.

My build: *SI-Defense Gen 3 "Fail Zero" Upper *SI-Defense Lower (Drk OD) *Apex CNC 12.5 handguard (Cerakote-Olive Drab) with full length Apex CNC top rail and 2" polymer side rails *Mike Rock / ABS (carbon wrapped) 17" Barrel - Still on order as of 04/2011 *SI Defense Stainless Steel "Fail Zero" Barrel Extension - Shipment Pending 12/2011 *SI Defense Stainless Steel "Fail Zero" Carrier - Still on order as of 04/2011 *SI Defense Shot-Peened "Fail Zero" Bolt - Shipment Pending 12/2011 *SI Defense Stainless Steel Bolt Catch *BCM "Gunfighter" Mod3 Charging Handle *Chip McCormick Flat Tactical Trigger (3.5 lbs) *BAD, Inc. 45 Degree Ambi Selector Switch (Stainless) *PRI Upper Height Railed Gas Block (Rifle Length Gas System) *Magpul MIAD Pistol Grip (OD) *Ace ARFX Skeleton Stock (Cerakote-Olive Drab) *Magpul AFG2 (OD) *Tubb CS Flat Buffer Spring *Enidine "AR-Restor" Hydraulic Buffer *Magpul MBUS (OD) with Trijicon front sight post *VLTOR Side Mounted Mod-Pod *Battlecomp Stainless BABC *Magpul LR-20 Magazine (Cerakote-Olive Drab) I could have gone lighter, as Jgun stated, but I wanted to keep the tactical features of the rifle as well as the sub-MOA... all on top of the lightweight frame. My intention was to build a rifle directed at LE purposes. Any lighter and I would have had to compromise integrity and reliability. In the end, my rifle should shoot sub.5 MOA, pop like a .223, and only weigh around 7 to 7.5 lbs. (The length of that list should be a hint to what this has all cost me so far.) Eventually, I plan to mount a scope soon too. The 2-10x32 NF and the 2-12x36 IOR is the debate. Maybe an off-set micro red dot too. Finding a lightweight mount is an issue too.

I think Bushmaster started the "Dissipator" style. Now others, like BCM, are doing the same thing. Originally they were 16" carbine length barrels with low-pro gas blocks under a handguard, and a rifle length A2 front sight mounted to hold the handguard in place. Now they are just any length barrel, with a gas block length shorter than the front sight length. I've also seen pistol/mid length, Car/Mid length, Mid/Rifle. http://www.model1sales.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=368

The first time I opened this thread I feared finding a less PG version of this...

Has anyone used any of their barrels? Specifically their 300blk barrel?? I just read that their 300blk barrel can be fitted with a "Dissipator" style front sight! I think I may have to jump on one of these... I have a spooky idea building inside this empty melon.

That sux! I just got mine in the mail, and it looks great. Don't fret, Brownells will take care of you. PS. I may hit you up for one of those mats. I'm headed to a gun show on 01/08, if I find one first I'll let you know.
