  1. I have a DD (ext mid) light rail and the Apex Rifle length tube. Due to the weight and girth, the DD feels like it should be more secure. The Apex is deceiving with how light it is. No worries though. The Apex is a solid piece and very well designed.
  2. Fresh news straight from the SHOT show in Las Vegas, Geissele will be introducing a rail system for the AR15 platform! Available in the next six to eight weeks and in sizes ranging from 7″ to 15″ it features a large barrel nut which makes for more contact area for the rail system to provide extra rigidity. Keep your eyes here for more info direct from SHOT.
  3. I agree with SS. Barrel, bbl extension, and bolt all go hand in hand. Replace one, replace them all
  4. Holy crap, how did I miss this earlier? Send me the info too. Ps, Dave my wife is going to come beat you up. :909:
  5. It looks like another XPS with a new reticle. I like it but it is still crazy expensive. I'm torn between the XPS and the Aimpoint T1
  6. It's a soft nose bullet though. I thought NATO only allowed FMJ. Could it be a hot or heavy loaded .260? Maybe someone resized a NATO 7.62x51 casing and jammed a 180 gr lead in there for some super long range shooting?
  7. No paint! Diamond plate aluminum sheets! <thumbsup>
  8. I'll bet starfury and survialshop are more right than I am. Put another 100-200 rounds through the rifle and I bet things clear up. Polishing the chamber is a quick do it yourself job too, especially if you have a rotary tool.
  9. HDWarlord Is good to go! Fast, easy and considerate of time constraints from us shift work guys. He also packages up the goodies like it was fine chinaware. Now if only we can convince him to use PayPal. <laughs> MaDuce and I did meet face to face, and all went smoothly. Nice guy and I'm sure glad he's on my side. <thumbsup>
  10. My guess is that you have two lines leftover from the machining process, in the throat of your barrel. When the bullet fires, the neck expands into those lines. If I'm right (I'm just making an educated guess here) you have a pretty easy fix either send the barrel to a gunsmith or back to Fulton, and have the inside lapped. Send the casings with the barrel too.
  11. Your "friend" is an idiot, or you are a super badass! Only a super badass will outlast those rifles. If you're not a teir one seal delta recon ninja spy, and possibly just a regular mope like the rest of us.. Feel comfortable that your rifles will lasts just fine. I do agree that an off the shelf rifle has room for improvement. You have nice rifles now. To say you need nicer rifles would be as lame as telling a Corvette owner he needs a Ferrari. Now if you want a LWRC or a JP or an OBR or any of the top shelf "semi-custom" rifles, I would be the last guy to stand in your way. They are all great rifles. I totally agree with edgecrusher in the fact that you could make your existing rifles that great at a fraction of the cost of a new rifle. If you have +$3000 for one of these rifles, then do it. If not, then.... The 24" bull barrel rifle. A trigger job, maybe have the barrel threaded for a brake, add an adjustable stock... Done. It won't be "tacti-cool" but it will make jagged holes in paper far far away. The Oracle is a pretty "meat an potatoes" rifle. It's plenty good as is, but you can still do a lot to it. Put a low profile gas block on, slide a free float rail system over that, maybe replace the hider with a compensator, upgrade the stock and grip, drop in a new trigger... If you really want to get fancy upgrade to a flat wire buffer spring and a carrier weight system. All those upgrades combined are less than $1,000.... Which is a third the cost of a new rifle.
  12. Sometimes, late at night, after a bottle of wine or two, edgecrusher sends me PM's asking for my opinion on his latest build or range gear. Here's a sampling of his last picture... I tries to tell edge that neon green wasn't very tactical. He promptly responded with another picture.
  13. Showed the picture around the office. The general census was.... Funny <thumbsup> The only person who didn't laugh, never saw the movie.
  14. It turns me on when you talk like that <laughs>
  15. A 168 grain bullet from a 16" barrel should remain supersonic to about 600 yards. As far as "ethical", I assume you mean "what is the optimum distance I should expect for a 'one shot kill'?" A decent shooter should hold a 6"-8" group at 300 yards with that scope/barrel combo. Extra range and accuracy depending on the muzzle device, trigger and of course the quality of the bullet. Really maxing out at 400 yards with above par equipment and skill. You could make a 600 yard killer with a 16" barrel... but it won't be cheap.
  16. And SWS makes that handguard special for the KR7 As far as I am aware, the length of the charging handle is the only difference between the rifles.
  17. Nope, no difference... Same sights
  18. I preferred the 15" sniper version myself. I liked the flat grip on the bottom. I asked Art to make me one of his original 12.5" versions, that looked identical to his 15". He told me they weren't planning on ever offering that version, and that it was made as a prototype. I think only a handful of them ever got released.
  19. The Kaiser "REACH" system is an upgrade even beyond that! Too bad Kaiser is near extinct.
  20. All of them... 99% of the BUIS are designed to line up at the same height as the FSB. All front sights; handguard mounted, gas block mounted, FSB, are all supposed to be at the same height. This way the rear sights can always be the same. The only types of sights I would be weary about, are the ones that state they are "micro" or "low profile". I have a set of Troy Micro BUIS on an AR, and I'm not 100% sure they are the same same height as the original BUIS. I never measured them to confirm or deny this.
  21. There's more options! SWS 13" SWS 15"
  22. When I think of "that guy" I picture this group of Asian guys I see at the open range just outside of town. Two of them are always wearing digi ACU vests with crossdraw holsters. Loaded up with their 10/30 mags and a Hi-point 9mm (someone has been watching too much Nutnfancy on YouTube). Of course they have their Oakley carbon fiber gloves and a pair of black combat boots with bdu pants tucked in the boots. These guys look more like Virginia Tech reenactors than hobby shooters. You can always spot their guns too. They usually have 200 lbs of Airsoft-grade, Hong Kong knock off, gadgets hanging from the rails. The mentality of "why spend more, when this stuff is just as good?" absolutely kills me. The nice part is, it only takes about an hour for them to blow 1,000 rounds of surplus garbage ammo into the side of a mountain. Then they leave. It's usually enough time for me to enjoy a ciesta before returning to my targets.
  23. I actually just recently learned about him. I have to admit, I'm already a fan <laughs>. I read, mouth agape, at the feces he wrote.
  24. For an Ambi rifle... I'd prefer the billet ambi Mega with a Norgon button attached. The $300 price difference can't be justified.
