This looks pretty sweet! Nice find!
-
That is the stuff. Previous mistake on my part - I mentioned it was available from Sniper's Hide forum - INCORRECT. It was available from Sniper Central forum... Online-wise, it was only available for a long time, from them. I'm damn glad to see it in many other online places now, but for people that might have a hard time finding it, check here: http://www.snipercentral.com/hsmammo.htm

^^^ DNP knows my pain. He's known me long enough. :o I was talking about building a .458 awhile ago, on another board, and I'd already built a few others. I had second thoughts. He already had a few ARs, and found a JD matched .308 set. He let that out, but I had changed my mind on the .458 already (in my mind) and decided on a .308 instead. Eh, I told him about it, and I wanted the IRA set. Well, I had a local gun show I hit, and I told him I found a DPMS stripped lower for a hell of a decent deal - he tells me, "Don't do it - you don't want that. Call me before you go back there and buy it!" I say okay, I'll call. I won't do it. THAT NIGHT I hit up the IRA website - and those bastages jacked prices up about $150 per matched set. Hell with that, I'm going back to that show and getting the DPMS, and I'm NOT calling DNP beforehand... ;D Yeah, that didn't even go a full month, and I was posting targets. It's just a damn sickness... not my fault... <lmao> <thumbsup>
-
Don't do that to him... I'm not sure if he's ready for that... **Ahem!!!** Matt, Google "PimpMyGun" <lmao>
-
What can I say?... <dontknow> It's a damn sickness... <laughs>
-
I turned a spare gas tube roll pin into a complete rifle before - I don't need the help, brother... :o EDIT - I really do want a .338, though... Bolt. ;D <laughs>

I know, man. Some of the stuff I want won't even be available for about 8 weeks, but I have to pay now. That's the killer part. I'll probably have everything else sitting here, waiting on one or two key parts, so once they come in it will be a shootin'! I had a foliage AFG for it, but the Little Woman took charge of that thing right away, and it's on her midlength now. >:( Mo' money... :o

Killer deals on parts. That's what gets us - well, it gets me, that's for sure. This is what is driving a pretty sweet build, and I'll update as more parts come in. This one will take longer than the previous builds, because I know for sure I have to wait on parts to be made - not just "not available at a retailer." This one will end up being my favorite gun, I already know... ;D Here's the beginning:
-
As far as breathing control goes, make the shot on the exhale. Fully exhale, give it a second or two, then shoot during the respiratory pause. You can load your oxygen system somewhat by taking 2 or 3 sharp, deep breaths beforehand. Then fully exhale, shoot. When you do that, you can go 7 or 8 seconds on the respiratory pause before your body (mind; brain) tells you to start breathing again. If you wait that long it's like holding your breath, and you'll start shaking a little. If you don't make the shot in that timeframe, just let it go - breathe in a couple more times and start over again. Practice that, and it'll fix vertical stringing. If you stick to the fundamentals on the other stuff, those groups will tighten right up. <thumbsup>
-
Matt, are you inhaling or exhaling while you're taking a shot? That first target pic above ^^^, that direct straight up-and-down stringing is a classic example of firing at different points in the respiratory cycle. Sight picture is the same, sight alignment is the same, trigger squeeze is the same in each shot - You can see that by how far left-to-right the shot group is. That up and down stuff is all breathing. <thumbsup>

Optimum Barrel length for accuracy...

^^^ That was a good article - I've still got that someplace. -
I used their 77gr Match for the AR-15 - it's every bit as good as the Black Hills 77gr SMK and the Prvi 75gr Match. I like the stuff. <thumbsup>

Welcome aboard, Randy! Man, I miss Arizona... :-[

Very cool info - I always stop and hit up the Cabela's in Wheeling, WV when I'm driving between here and Ohio. I'll snoop around there next time through. They're also just about the only retailer that stocks Black Hills Mk 262, but you gotta get lucky to find that stuff on the shelves... :o

I'll grab some pics of a few motorcycle parts I had dipped in a carbon fiber pattern. The prices were great, and I'd bet the guy would do gun parts. I'll try to see if that's a possibility for him, and see what he'd charge for gun stuff. Here's his website, for the time being: http://www.k2concepts.net/ If any of you decide to call him, his name is Jim. 951-675-1303.

Oh, I will - I told her I'm not gonna zero it, and she has to be the one to do that. She shouldn't have too much trouble, but we'll see. Pics are a definite on that one. <thumbsup>

The HSM ammo is definitely good stuff, and it's not overpriced, especially for what you're getting. Muy Bueno. Is it still only sold through Sniper's Hide forum, or has it branched out other places yet? Either way, it's good stuff. <thumbsup>

Drew wins. ;D Unbeknownst to me, kayaking was shifted to tomorrow, and friends are coming over later today. I'm only on here because she's out at the (flower) nursery picking up cute little colorful things to plant in the yard... ::) I stashed it in a new (cheap) gun case because I didn't feel like trying to wrap the thing up, and I snuck it into the kitchen this morning. I didn't say anything about it, but she noticed that I had a gun case upstairs, so she asked if I was going to the range on her birthday - I said, "I don't know - maybe. Depends on whether you want to shoot or not..." She was confused. I told her that wasn't my gun case. She was even more confused, so I just told her to open the gun case up, because it wasn't mine. She started to get it, then... I'm tellin' you, she spent about an hour doing manipulation drills with it - she'd never seen (or operated) a BAD lever before, and she likes that after using it. I think actually having her own AR kinda turned her on, because it was on after that! Good day, good day... ;D EDIT - she DID open the cap on the grip, and saw the ear rings, but she was already fired up before finding those... <dontknow> <thumbsup>
-
^^^ I'm voting for that, too... <thumbsup>

Drew, it depends on what you're going for. There's only one model that has a 16.25" barrel, and that's a youth model. Grab that one if you're going for something to convert to a "tactical-type .22." There's a target model that comes from the factory that has a Pic rail mounted - look for that if you're going for something to put a modern optic on. Tell the truth, Ruger has really stepped it up in what they offer now, straight from the factory, and there's literally dozens of models to choose from, between what they offer everywhere, and what they offer as "Dealer Specials" - direct factory mods that one specific dealer needs or wants for customers. It's absolutely nuts, man - and it's not just the 10/22s... It's all their firearms.

Me too, man. I'm fired up to hunt this thing. I think I am going to go ahead and get that TRS-1 for it, and this scope here will go back on the bolt gun. I'm pretty sure I'm taking that one, too.
-
I'm workin' this thing for you, brother! Pimp My Gun hooked me up! ;D I can't wait to see this thing, weight this thing - hell, I can't wait to SHOOT this thing!!! :o 8)
-
SO far, I like it alot - the slim profile is really cool; it's one narrow tube. That may be it's downfall, though, and the shooting will tell. If it heats up too much, it's gone. I'll replace that sucker with the MI SS-12 in green. ;D Thank ya, man! I hope she likes the thing. Supposed to go kayaking on Saturday for her B-Day - so if you guys see me online Saturday afternoon... she's kayaking by herself, because she hates me, and hated the "present..." <munch> :D

Done! All parts in; everything put together and function checked. http://308forum.com/index.php?topic=280.0

Well, I hope she likes this thing when she opens it up. It's a crapshoot. Spike's lower, AP upper, Armalite 16" midlength gas barrel, Troy Extreme 13" rail, Magpul foliage furniture, Surefire M951 light, Bushnell Trophy red dot in an Aimpoint QRP mount, Kinght's vertical grip, Magpul BAD and ASAP - and a single point sling not in the pics; 6 more mags not in the pics. 7 lbs, 7.8 oz just like this, empty mag in it: No weight with the light and red dot, but this is what she'll open up. I'm sticking a pair of ear rings inside the pistol grip, just in case she's pissed at opening this up... :o
