  1. Standard carbine or H will be fine on it. The H buffer will shoot a little softer. Definitely not the H2 or H3 for it, though. We had standard carbine buffers in our M4A1s initially, and they were all replaced in short order. I don't know what the armorers replaced them with, but it was a damn good improvement afterwards.
  2. Yep, for something around $5k. :-[
  3. Just picked up a new magazine (the print kind ;)) and saw a 4+ page article on a new upper and lower set made by MGSS - well, a whole rifle, really, and DPMS-based. It looks VERY nice, but I haven't seen much information otherwise yet. Looks promising, so keep your eyes out! Here's a link to the MGSS page for it - the new DMR-10. http://www.jetsuppressors.com/dmr10.html (April 2010 issue of Special Weapons mag - LaRue OBR on the front)
  4. What top end config does it have right now? Since it's a Colt, there certainly aren't gonna be problems with out-of-spec gas ports on the barrel - seriously. You shouldn't have any troubles running a standard carbine buffer in it, if it's the rifle gas on a 20" barrel.
  5. Those are damn sweet! I no-kidding wish I had the SR-25 EM Carbine. I don't know what I'd do with myself... :o
  6. Recoil, perceived recoil (by the shooter), cycling that's out of whack, i.e., cycles too fast and won't lock back on the last round, because the buffer is too light. Some people use the buffer weight to fix other problems, like out-of-spec gas holes in the barrel, too, but that depends on the barrel manufacturer more than anything else. Alot of the newer mainsteam rifles and carbines were never designed for the current gas systems, either. Carbine-length gas systems running a 11.5" or even 13.7" barrel is a good example. Experimentations with buffer weighting has been figured out for most combos now, though.
  7. I'm so fired up over this rifle, man! It's really a joy to shoot, but I'll save that final determination until tomorrow morning when I check out the shoulder. Ran the math on the targets, and came up with this:
  8. Gas system is installed, YHM .308 Phantom cam in today, and everything is finalized. She goes on the firing line in the morning! ;D EDIT - Hit the range with it, and I'm kinda happy! Shoots well, and I didn't do my part today, so much. Put the first 60 rounds through it, 168gr open tipped boat tail. First target is the final 10-round group at 50 yards, where I sighted the scope initially. Second target is at 100 yards, and I just left the scope alone. 20-shot string, fire/breathe/reset, one after the other. I was shooting an AR-15 before this, and this one wore me out. Shoulda shot it first... ;D
  9. Outside of upper receiver variations on the DPMS .308s, they're all interchangeable. If you happen to find a killer deal on a DPMS, but it's a hightop slick side, and you were looking for a flat top with brass deflector and ejection port cover, pick it up. You can buy the specific upper receiver you were looking for as a separate part, and swap them out with a few special tools. All the DPMS .308 parts will interchange. What specific options or upgrades were you considering for later addition? How exactly do you want the weapon outfitted when it's all finished? That'll give us a direction to go in, and specific advice to give.
  10. Right on, man - glad you're up and running here! I guess I lured you out in a mighty fine fashion!!! ;D
  11. Haha! 'Bout time, brother!!! ;D
  12. Got 'em! This one is the keeper... Last Thanksgiving, Glamis sand dunes on the Honda: One of my very best friends is a professional race photographer, and hits the dunes with us regularly. He also owns a .308 AR (JD Machine upper and lower), and he's a lurker here as far as I can tell - maybe I'll draw him out with this... ;D He took this pic last T-Day:
  13. This should get ya a little wet then... ;D 1986 Honda TRX-250R, fully restored and rebuilt by me in Feb 2008. It's the oldest machine I have, but it's the fastest over all the other quads (2006 'Zuk LTR-450, 2 x 2003 'Zuk LTZ-400s with major engine and suspension work). It crushes 'em. Before the 310cc big bore, in the first pic above... I can't find the other pics of the 2 stroke, but I will. Here's some dune-foolery on the LTR-450. Tell me what's funny lookin' in this pic... ;D Slappin' together the LTZ-470 two days before a dune trip: The Supermoto bike: The Street Missile - 2007 'Zuk M109RZ:
  14. Slight update - time was a wastin'! ;D Gas tube came in, gas tube roll pins, everything. Waiting on a YHM 7.62 Phantom, but that won't stop me from shooting this thing. However, the local guy I got the rail from is the same guy I'm getting the PRI gas block from. When the gas tube came in last Thursday, I called for an update on the gas block. He was glad that I called, because he forgot to order it. Anyway, it came in today. I'll pick it up first thing in the morning and get everything on the gun finalized, and I'll take it out on Thursday for it's initial shoot. Thursday afternoon sometime (hopefully), I'll have some target pics up here. With a Fulton BCG and Fulton National Match barrel, I'm curious (VERY curious) on how it's gonna print on the target. :o
  15. KAC reworked the SR-25 some for the M110 version. I'm not quite sure all that was done, but it's an improved package (and it's a "complete package" now). I know the newer 600m rear sight wasn't on the older ones, and the flip up front/rail piece is different. The gas system on the M110 is tuned like nobody's business, from what I've heard. I wish I could get my hands on one for a little bit of T&E... ;D
  16. We had M14s (some accurized, some standard), M21s and M24s before I retired, and only a few teams had SR-25s from KAC. There were only a few of those around. There were more Barrett .50s than SR-25s. 5.56 SPRs were on all the teams. I didn't get to mess with the M110s at all (bums me out, too). I know for a fact that I would have rather been carrying the M110 (or SR-25, then) in Afghanistan than the M4 platform.
  17. I think it's going to take off - it's gaining steam right now, and that's for sure. Last year's gun scare kind of "pushed" it along, too. A whole LOT of people thought the needed to buy an AR-15-based weapon because they'd never get to if they "were banned." The shortage pushed some of those people into what WAS available to them, and that was a .308-based platform. Now those people are picking up the 15, after the initial purchase of a .308. Big-bore ARs are just going to keep going, IMHO. .458 SOCOM, 6.5, 6.8 - all of them. The general, mainstream interest in the big bores is only starting to take off right now, and the traditional AR owners are looking at them as options. When they see ammo availability and price, they turn to the .308 instead - that's honestly what I ended up doing. I was headed the direction of the .458 originally. I made a pretty thought out decision to go to the .308 for common ammo, and personal supply (already have a .308 bolt gun). Lastly, there are SO many manufacturers rght now making a .308 system, and the quality is astounding. Kaiser and Iron Ridge are extremely high quality. CMMG is good. Right now, I don't think there's a bad manufacturer, and more and more keep popping up. The completes like the LaRue OBR and the Noveske N6 are fantastic. Fulton Armory's Titan, too. With the market really expanding like this, and choices all over, it can't help but gain unprecedented popularity. My $0.02...
  18. You're gonna love the stuff I'll post up here then... ;D
  19. Here's what the little beast looks like - BSA RD-30 red dot on it, and the T6 furniture:
  20. My Moss 930 SPX auto - I love this thing... I've also got a Moss 835 pump, chambered for the 3 1/2" shells, and a Moss 500 that I inherited from my grandfather. Love the Mossbergs! ;D
  21. I'm pretty sure I've got pics of the modded stock piece into the auto bolt release, and the trigger polishing, so I'll dig them up. I probably can't get the pics to you until Monday, though.
  22. Got the BCM Gunfighter Mod 3 in the mail today. I'll get pics into this thread in a little while. Pretty nice item. Here it is, with the 5.56 Mod 3 handle on bottom, the new one in the middle (Mod 3, large latch also), and the stocker on top: Quite the difference in what's "grabbable...": Another 5.56 vs. .308 comparo: Very, VERY nice clearance at the back of the scope: Drew, I'll get you some better pics in better light. Sun is going down here now, so it's not so good. Bottom line - one-handed, even more -one-finger- charging is incredibly easy now. Makes a HUGE difference, even on the .308. A very worthy upgrade, IMHO.
  23. I've got one that I put in the Tapco T6 stock kit and slapped a little red dot on it - pretty good little shooter. The only thing else that I've done to it are mod the bolt hold-open so it's an auto bolt release, put a Buffer Tech bolt stop in it, and polished the trigger engagement surfaces. What kind of stuff are you looking for?
  24. Man, I completely missed that... Thanks!
  25. thinking about picking up a stripped lower from Tactical Machining, the guys that sell the 80% lowers and the jigs. They sell finished lowers, also, and their DPMS-compatible stripped lower is on sale for $200 right now. Anybody used one of these before? Any comments?
