This is a 100% fucked up position to be in as an American, IN the United States of America - because of severely misguided political positions, and talking points. It's a fucking mess. Vote. And vote smart. Everyone has to. All your friends, neighbors, people that you don't know that live in your neighborhood... Every single one counts, if we're counting on a decent, fair election. It all matters.

For whatever reason, I just love fishin'...

Good info, brother - thanks for posting that.

What caliber for the barrel, @Magwa?
-
I called this one a month ago - this is because of our porous, open border. Said that a month ago, in a different thread. I'm not saying this is the beginning, and it'll happen all the time now - but it will happen in the future, directly because of that problem. Stay safe, protect yourself to the abilities that you can protect yourself, and most of that is from being aware of your surroundings, and keeping your head on a swivel. It'll happen again, and it might be like this:

Yep. Was this a trial run, and they got followed, so they fled to Canada? Was this a diversion? Were they actually supposed to be in NYC tomorrow, and got tailed? Too many question, and I don't like it. I knew the shiit was suspicious as fukc, listening to the radio on the way to work, 9/11/01, when they said a plane hit the WTC. Now, how the fukc did THAT happen?! Few years earlier, that whole area was restricted as a no-fly zone, and weeks before that happened, a private, small-engine place was forced back to an airport by military fighter jets, for violating that restricted, no-fly airspace! So, how the fukc... Boom, another jet hits the other tower... Something ain't right here, with this. My Spidey Senses are tingling. No such thing as a coincidence...

On a side note - that StaBall powder is pretty damn good! I'm using StaBall 6.5 to work up the stuff for the 7mm-08 rifle, running the Hornady 175 ELD-M... That thing has a G1 BC of .796!!!
-
We're good, Ed!!! I love the 178 ELD-X, for one simple reason - I was chasing accuracy potential. The ELD-X has a slightly higher BC than the other 178s that Hornady makes. I ran the 178 HPBTs for YEARS, and the Match was listed. It wasn't enough of a BC jump for me to go through load development all over again, so I didn't switch to it when it came out. Not long after releasing the Match, they released the X - and I made the jump, completely. I knew right then that it wasn't gonna get any better for the 178 projectiles, they made their productions, finalized their designs, and to me, the X was the winner. So, time to build a new gun for it, time to develop loads again from the ground up, and time to try a new powder. Here's the stack of 178s from Hornady - click it until it gets bigger and you can read it: Here's the gun that went together just for that projectile, and the new powder trial: Accurate 2495 was the powder selected. Load is as follows: Mk11 Mod 0 // .308 Win // Hornady 178 ELD-X // 2530 fps from 18.5" Kreiger/Criterion barrel, profile custom to Fulton Armory // Accurate 2495 powder, 40.6 gr // CCI 200 primer // Hornady .308 Match brass. I've since switch that over to Lake City 7.62 NATO brass (not fired as machine gun brass, and not LC Match brass) - and it's an equally stellar load. I think you're on the perfectly right track, Ed - keep on keeping on, work that load up. If the StaBall Match doesn't work, I for sure know that the Accurate 2495 works like a champ. Drive on, brother, it'll shoot!

Been ruled as a terrorist attack. They drove into that on purpose, predetermined outcome by them. What's tomorrow? NYC Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade... Think about that... I don't believe in coincidence. Seen far too many fucked up things in life.

Man, I thought those were super cool - until last weekend... This is the new sweetness... https://throwflame.com/products/xl18-flamethrower/

Same as ^^^ Doc said. If that's in the future, as stated, then it's worth putting on right now, during the build.
-
I need to use it more, because of that. I'm still trapped in CaveMan mode, do it all without batteries... Spring Shoot, we'll shoot 2,000 yards... I have it figured out. 2k or bust.
-
That would be sweet - try to remember that thing! But, I'm not getting rid of my Kestrel 5700 with it's Applied Ballistics software, that bluetooths to my Bushnell laser range finder...

We need to get a list together of the new shots this year. From the past, it was a pretty small group. This year, that list grew exponentially. Previously, here were the hits, all years combined: @JBMatt and his .300 Win Mag. And many other guns that people offered up. Me and my .300 Win Mag. @Magwa, last year, and his 6.5x.284 Norma - and again this year. @sketch, last year, and his Barrett M99 bolt action .50 Cal. That was it. Previously, those 4 guns, for years now, are the only ones that connected, at 1,760 yards. Other people might have shot those guns and connected, but those 4 guns were it... This year, the new additions are: @JBMatt's badass buddy Ty, on a 6 GT (!!!!).... that gun of his is just BADASS!!! @shooterrex, on his Bergara .300 Win Mag (almost an identical clone of one of Matt's guns). Andy - who doesn't love Andy!... He brought out a Bushmaster .50 cal, and shot, didn't connect. He turned the gun over to his brother Paul, and Paul shot 5 shots, hit twice, on the second and fourth shots. 2 of 5 is badass! KJ shot that same gun, connected. Youngest person in the entire group to ever hit at 1760 yards! I think he's still 16 years old, but might have turned 17 recently. Nick T, with his .300 PRC did it. @Matt.Cross used various different guns from different people, and hit multiple times. @Cunuckgaucho smacked it, with Operation Maple Syrup, the 6.5 PRC gun. If I left anyone out, please add them. It was a good weekend to shoot a mile...
-
Hell yeah, brother! It's a different perspective, for sure. BUNCH of new Mile Shots last weekend, from new calibers, and new shooters. It's a rush...

Wasn't my pic, but that was a great thread, with accurate information. You seeing something different in your results, your tests? If so, let us know.

Adding a suppressor will only increase port pressure (for most suppressors), so even at 0.090"-ish, putting a can on there is increasing port pressure, but probably at a manageable level. Let's get the gun to run first, as is, and see what happens. With what you already have on there for the recoil system, I think you'll be fine at 0.090".

In testament, I recently broke in 2 different BA SPR Profile barrels recently. One was a 14.5" midlength .223 Wylde chamber, and that thing performs as well as I could wish for it. The other was another 18" SPR rifle gas barrel, .223 Wylde chamber, and I just watched it in a match this morning, shoot 47 of 51 targets, and do it very well. BA SPR Profile barrels, whatever the caliber - those things REALLY perform. For what you pay, they punch well above their weight class, and rival some 500 and 600 dollar barrels. In my personal collection, I have that BA SPR profile barrel lined up in (multiple) .223 Wydle, (multiple) 6.5 Grendel, one .224 Valkyrie, and one 6 ARC. None of them suck, nowhere close. They're all badass, performing barrels.

Man, I just watched this, and a few things come to mind. First, this guy is amazing for what he does. "Sitting with Dogs." It's badass, the time he puts in. Second - this dude REALLY reminds me of Rob, big time. @Robocop1051 - this might be your long lost twin brother, that you never even new you had - fuk's sake, he even sounds like you when he talks. Watch this one, fellas...
-
How is it shooting? That's the bottom line right now. You should be around 0.090" port diameter for that barrel config, and it you jump that thing to 0.096" - you'll have some hard-recoiling gun that is truly overgassed. No need to burn an adjustable gas block if you don't need to. Are you ever gonna shoot this rifle suppressed? Lemme know on that, it's important stuff.

Excellent work!

That's not the case, at all. Might as well get into it right now, like it or not. So, in your analogy, guns are the problem with people getting shot. Couldn't possibly defective people, could it? That is the real issue here, like it or not. I've been running this thing for 13th year now. Nothing has changed in the operation of the actual shoot. Much has changed in the size, and much has changed in how we organize camp, to handle the size. The vetting process failed, bad, this time. Her husband is an autistic alcoholic, and is currently in the alcohol program in the Army, by his own admission. He already has issues with alcohol, and is in trouble for it, in the Army. She was walking around with 2 unopened beers in the crook of her arm, one bottle of liquor in that same arm, and her opened beer in the other hand. And trying to slap-fight everyone in camp. He was drunk as fuuck, and went full-on racist right there at the fire. Then he shoved her to the ground... It wasn't hard alcohol being present in camp - it was two defective people being drunk as shiit in camp, and making asses of themselves. So, no matter how much you don't like it, and think it should stop - remember this... You have been invited into that camp, Todd. This is a place to gather for friends that I've made over the years, and it's taken years to build that up. We let people bring friends, but that part needs work. The vetting process needs beefed up, and we (and I'm talking about the core group of people that have invested years into this, and that's a small group of people) need to fix that. You may not like it, and that's fine, but what we do at the end of the day around the campfire isn't gonna have a bunch of rules put on it. Regardless of whether you agree with that or not.

I'd like to know why they showed up in the first place. Neither one need to ever come back.

I love this, by the way. My Mantra. It was almost visible, for everyone to see, this weekend. But it wasn't. Cooler heads than mine prevailed. My head wasn't cool. Not in the least. For that, I thank you all, and you know who you are. "It's very difficult to be good..."

Oh, there was more than cheesecake...
