A French soldiers view of his American counterparts.

One of the real-world advantages to online gaming is that you get to meet and chat with folks from all over the world. I have played games with people from just about every European country including France. Interestingly, I have found that MOST world cultures seam to be the reverse overall to what most Americans seam to think. For example, most people I've met from the Netherlands are modest folks who describe their country as a very relaxed, middle class country, most Germans I've met were extremely polite and seamed to have a "collage town" mentality and similarly describe their country. Most people I've met from developed Asian countries (Philippines, Taiwan etc.) seam to have very similar personalities to Germans.

Most of the french people I've met, both online and in person sound remarkably similar to Americans, boasting allot of criticism towards their government and overall similar life values. In fact, most french people I've met would probably get along on this board allot better then most British or Australians. And unlike the British and Australians, the French are still a relatively well armed nation.

As far as their "surprising" attitude towards US soldiers. When it comes to pretty much any part of the media, Americans are known to be rude, arrogant, hypocritical and slobs not just to the French but to pretty much the rest of the developed world. I've actually come across online gaming communities on the Playstation Network that strictly prohibit Americans DUE to their overwhelming problems with belligerent behavior by American gamers. Interestingly, none were hosted by French, most were Asian. And if you look at your usual youtube comments, talk on message boards and US media, it's really hard NOT to get this impression of Americans if you don't live here. I don't know what the typical military demeanor is like but every marine I've ever met was always respectful, curious and ready for a fight at a moment's notice if need be. That goes directly against the common "youtube" attitude most people around the world have grown accustomed to. So, yeah, that article for the most pert makes perfect sense. To me anyway.
