I had a m4gery and a couple of side arms that I had to sell to pay Uncle S. last month but would like to replace them with a AR-10. I live in Alaska and want something that I can use from wolves up to bigger game, Caribou, Bears etc. I usually stay under 100 yards when I had my AR-15 and had no issues with Caribou and the occasional black bear, but I want something bigger that I can use out to a few hundred yards.

I use my PSL-54 when I want to reach out further and still have some power behind my shot when hunting on open tundra. It is a bear though to carry through the thick willows and such and pretty heavy. I use the standard open sights on my psl, and my previous AR had an Eotech. I was considering a 16 or 18" ar-10 and topping it with another eotech to carry when I am out fishing, boating and hunting. Seems like a good all around size to have on your back. Looking at a Windham .308 or something similar and hoping to stay under 2k, I don't need any of the fancy tactical stuff, I just want something that will shoot when I need it to and is relatively light. I think the ar-10 will work better for me then the other .308 semi's.

Have you handled any 308AR's , if you have, they are all on the heavy side . You can buy a factory Armalite AR10 for much less than 2K. As far as a less weight 308AR , check the DPMS G2 308 , they have a couple of versions of it & seems to have good reviews & will probable be less weight then all the other 308AR's on the market .

Thanks for the welcomes.... A buddy of mine has a 20" ar-10 with a nice scope, bipod etc. shoots well but is heavy. I will check out the shops later this week. I have hunted brown bears before but not in a few years. Used my .243 to take the last one so a .308 should be fine.
