Bad Wolf
Anyone had an issue while loading pistol rounds on a progressive and as you go along the bullets tend to get longer? I have a LnL and using a set of Lee dies. Here lately I've noticed that when I confirm starting length, 1.145 on a 9mm, by time I've finished 100 rounds it about 1.160. I know .015 is not a huge difference but its got me concerned the die might be bad.
Tripledeuce
A lot of people like Lee dies. Personally, after a couple of bad experiences, I would not have a set if you GAVE them to me! Sounds like the seating stem is moving in the die. Respectfully Terry
Bad Wolf
That's the conclusion I came to and realized it all started after I pulled it apart to clean it. It has loaded about 5k with no issue.
MikedaddyH
Try using locking rings by RCBS on the die. This happened with my Lee progressive 1000 so I put locking rings on the dies. No more movement. I also DONT change the caliber from 40S&W.
survivalshop
The only way that can happen is ,it had to loosen up some where . I too, do not like the O-Ring locking ring of the Lee Dies , I also replace them , but I use Dillon locking nuts , mostly because I use them in my 550B also ., besides my Lee 1000 & single stage press. Bad Wolf
Thanks, Ill grab a set. It was may plan to upgrade to the Hornady Locking rings sooner or later. I just had other things to get first.
392heminut
It could be the die moving in the press or the bullet seating stem moving in the die. Lee dies don't have a lock ring on the seating stem, just a rubber o-ring to keep tension on the stem. That is one feature I don't like about the Lee dies but so far it hasn't been an issue with the ones I have.
Bad Wolf
This die has only loaded about 8k rounds. Ill get the lock ring and if that doesn't fix it I'll contact Lee for a replacement.
Bad Wolf
I corrected the issue by backing the die out and tightening down the stem down. Funny how I never had this problem until I cleaned the die. But I did install it at the same dept after the cleaning and that when the problem started. I still plan to get the locking rings. 98Z5V
Thanks, Ill grab a set. It was may plan to upgrade to the Hornady Locking rings sooner or later. I just had other things to get first. I shitcanned all my RCBS lockrings for the Hornady lock rings - best thing I ever did. You're definitely on the perfectly right track with that. You can get the Hornady lockrings in a 6-pack, and they're much cheaper that way.
Bad Wolf
I found the rings are only 3 bucks each but with 10 bucks shipping from most places.
392heminut
It seems a lot of places use shipping to make money these days. I just ordered 4 assemble yourself drawers for a bathroom cabinet I'm building. The drawers cost $76 and the friggin shipping was $40!
