Not that kind of rail gun

A whole different kind of sport. Must feel so weird shooting a rifle like this. Anybody here ever get into this?

I tried to get a job at a local defense contractor testing their products using that type of gun. Some 23 year old got the job!

A sport, yes...but not shooting.

 

Kinda like the difference between model railroads in your garage and the ones people build you sit on to travel around their yard.

Saw one similar to that in The Nam. CIA used it, but it was electrically fired. No visible trigger. The guy used a slide rule to do all the calculations.

  I shoot a lot with an adj. sand bag rest , for testing hand loads , not as elaborate as those , but pretty much the same thing . Probably ends up who loaded the most accurate ammo that day.

Rail guns like that and their competitions were a big part of the range I used to frequent in west TX. It was fascinating! Reloading their rounds right there on the spo, these guys tried to eliminate as many variables as possible to result in the tightest group, even waiting for the crosswind to cease across the entire range, then get off five rounds in <<<10 seconds.

 

Is it shooting, it sure is! Is it for me? Nah. Don't have the patience or money to indulge in it.
