mrmackc
Anyone tried Atomic .308 Sierra matchking HPBT 175 gn. Subsonic 1050 ft/sec mv, 425 FP at the muzzle?
mrmackc
From Atomic webpage: http://atomicammunition.com/308_Win_175_Gr.html Our .308 WIN SUBSONIC 175 GR SIERRA HPBT MATCHKING LOADED IN NEW BRASS ammunition is made with only the very best components available, such as new brass, Flash Supressed powder and Sierra MatchKing Hollow Point Boat Tail bullets. This ammunition is not specifically designed to cycle semi or fully automatic weapons 175 GRAIN SIERRA HPBT MATCHKING BULLETS Loaded in NEW Brass - 1050 FPS, 428 Ft-Lbs Atomic Ammunition’s newest product, our .308 Win Subsonic is unlike any high powered rifle ammunition. It is quieter than most .22 Long Rifle ammo, has virtually no felt recoil, produces the same energy and power as many .40 S&W police service rounds and delivers excellent accuracy past 100 yards from rifles with barrel twist rates of 1 in 11’’ or faster. This specialty ammunition is perfect for younger and smaller framed shooters who are learning to shoot their family’s full size hunting rifles, seniors who have become recoil sensitive due to age, persons who only have access to indoor shooting ranges that do not allow high powered rifles because of the noise they generate that echoes off of the walls or fear that the bullet will generate so much power that it will pass through or tear up the backstop. It can be fired on smaller plots of land that are safe for firing handguns but where a miss with a rifle bullet would likely travel beyond the property, or the use of a full powered rifle load would disturb nearby neighbors. It is a perfect round for ranchers to dispatch varmints and predators such as coyotes or bobcats that prey on young calves and small livestock, with a reduced chance of scaring larger animals into a stampede. Subsonic .308 is also the rifle cartridge of choice for military and law enforcement tactical professionals as well as civilians in over 35 states to use with suppressed firearms because the bullet does not reach or exceed the speed of sound and does not create a loud sonic boom as it travels. This relatively innocuous cartridge, with its low recoil and report will serve many shooters, new or experienced, young and old with an alternative target and varmint round to the loud, harsher kicking standard .308 cartridges at a price on par with standard .308 ammunition, not the much higher, nearly double in price commonly associated with our competitors subsonic .308 ammo. Well, somebody needs to talk some sense into their Sniper TLs. That ain't no way to run a LE sniper team in this one man's opinion.

98Z5V
Subsonic .308 is also the rifle cartridge of choice for military and law enforcement tactical professionals I can't speak for the LE snipers, but .mil snipers don't use subsonic .308 Win ammo. It's definitely not the "cartridge of choice," as this propaganda states. The .mil snipers don't run suppressors to make the shot quiet - then run them for the additional concealment gains that a suppressor gives you. "I heard the sniper shooting at me." Said no successful target, ever. That's just straight fuckin' hilarious!... <lmao> <laughs>
mrmackc
Ammo with a consistent velocity and no white smoke from the muzzle was what our old ex-sniper Marksmanship instructors at Pendleton liked and they all preferred the 3006 AP (black tip) over the 3006 Ball I never saw any 3006 Ball until I shot at the Army range at Fort Sill Artillery school. The Army were already shooting M14 and we were still shooting M1 they issued 3006 Ball to us and told me to not bring any back, we didn't. (I was driving the deuce and half that picked up the ammo for our annual rifle qualifying).

I can't think of a scenario where subsonic .308 would shine in an LE Scenario.
