Doc_Tonka Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 Is anyone using sub sonic .308 in their suppressed AR'S. Does it cycle or do you manually have to charge it on every shot?
98Z5V Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 Here's about the only discussion we've had on it: I want to say there was a topic about loading subsonic .308 Win in the reloading section a few months back, but I couldn't find it just now. It might have had a funky thread title, though. I remember a guy coming in and asking about .308 Win sub loads, and nobody responded for a few days, and he ended up getting kinda mad about that. Nobody here shoots sub .308 Win (I don't think), and there's not that much experience with it, so there's not much info here on it.
Robocop1051 Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 I'm honestly not trying to be a dick here... What's the point of a subsonic .308 in an AR platform? Isn't that basically a .300Blk in a much heavier frame? Even worse... you can only load 175gr into a 308AR from a magazine... At least the Blk can shoot 220gr.
Doc_Tonka Posted July 22, 2015 Author Report Posted July 22, 2015 Well, I have seen 195great subsonic .308 and was curious. I do not have a suppressor at this point but it is something I will be doing after the new year. I want to have a sbr .308 dedicated upper and a dedicated intermediate upper for my .308 AR. I already have an M4 in 5.56 and do not really want to get into a 3rd caliber. Just a personal desire

I have shot subs through a bolt gun and I am thoroughly unimpressed. The 300blk seems to cover the sub sonic 30 caliber pretty well in both bolt and semi platforms.

The biggest round you can reliably fit is the 175gr, or maybe a compressed 180gr... but that's it. I'm all for shooting suppressed... but I'd forgo the idea of shooting subsonic .308
Doc_Tonka Posted July 22, 2015 Author Report Posted July 22, 2015 I really appreciate the advice guys, you are a big help. I hope to start assembling in the next couple months. I am on a budget so my first build is going slow lol.
MikedaddyH Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 Funky thread title ! "Forbidden Knowledge about Hand loading" . on the second page of the reloading section. It has a ton of info about subsonic handloading. Rob should pin that thread, its a keeper!
Doc_Tonka Posted July 22, 2015 Author Report Posted July 22, 2015 That was a good read Mikedaddy thanks for the direction.

If you happen to have a spot in your mission that requires a hush-splatter on a melon, you have some subsonics. Is it easier to tune a .308 Win down to .300 BLK or crank up a .300 BLK to .308 Win levels?
survivalshop Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 Reliability would be a concern with down loading the 308 win. to Subsonic levels , not to mention adding a shorter then normal barrel length to the mix. ( in a 308AR , that is )
98Z5V Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 ... not to mention adding a shorter then normal barrel length to the mix. ( in a 308AR , that is ) Two words dispute that, though... Noveske. Leonidas.
survivalshop Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 I believe we were talking about subsonic 308 ammo & the combo of it & shorter barrels <dontknow>
98Z5V Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 I jacked the topic - now it's about short .308ARs.
StainTrain Posted July 24, 2015 Report Posted July 24, 2015 Two words dispute that, though... Noveske. Leonidas. Just Damn!
98Z5V Posted July 24, 2015 Report Posted July 24, 2015 The Noveske Leonidas was released years ago. Many years ago. <thumbsup> Everybody thought John Noveske was crazy for doing it, then - but that thing fuckin' ran, and ran well. He was a visionary, and he NAILED IT. :hail: That's the whole reason R2 is trying to copy that original .308 Carbine...
Robocop1051 Posted July 24, 2015 Report Posted July 24, 2015 Don't forget someone else got a 12.5" Noveske bbl for a graduation present...
BLKSHEEP Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 Don't forget someone else got a 12.5" Noveske bbl for a graduation present... That must of made a damn fine baton! :loser:
98Z5V Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 Yeah, I know - but he's NEVER gonna finish that fuckin' thing... I'm just sayin'... <dontknow>
Malig8r Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 Here is some commercially available sub sonic 308 ammo for you to try out. I haven't used it but thought you might be interested in checking it out. https://www.primaryarms.com/Sellier_Bellot_308_Winchester_200gr_Subsonic_Bo_p/sb308sub.htm
