308-309whateverittakes
Hello My first post after shooting my home-built .308 today. First, a picture of the rifle: I went to the range today to sight in the scope and found that all spent casings had the same dent in them. I could see a brass-colored area at the ejection port also. Is this normal? Anything I can do to stop it from happening? Thanks. Pictures. See red circles. Top picture shows brass colored metal at the back of the ejection port. (the brass color doesn't show up on the picture very well) Send picture with red circle shows the detn Bottom picture is the brass showing the dent. shepp
Welcome to the forum from southern wisconsin I would say yes I maybe wrong, my gun has forward assist and the block that's on mine (same place) has a brass stripe.
MikedaddyH
Welcome from AZ ! Not a big deal, as long as ejection is between 3 and 5 O'Clock. A sizing die should take most of that out.
Matt.Cross
It's indicative of a strong ejector spring, the casing is hitting the barrel extension lugs on the way out of the chamber area. It's nothing to worry about unless you need your fired brass to be pretty. Pictures in your first post along with the problem description is exemplary! Welcome to the forums! survivalshop
Since its a slick side Upper Receiver , there is not an Shell Deflector & the sharp edge of the Ejection Port is causing your dent as has been described in posts above . If you want to soften or decrease the sharpness of the dent in the Brass , you can relieve that area as you would a 1911 for shell ejection. Something like this on a 1911 slide , some Aluminum Black to color it & your Brass dent will not be as sharp or just deal with the dent , which will not completely come out with a Sizer Die , but will shoot out when fired & just make another dent . jtallen83
A small chunk of grip tape strategically placed will help minimize the dents.
mineralman55
Take the good from it you can. Every case has the same mark. Your rifle is functioning very consistently.
